a woman!??!

I'm actually OK with that, since you know, it's not 1950.

Sure, why not? I recognize her from Broadchurch. I would've liked someone older, I must say. Like what they did with "Missy" (who used to be the Master).

Hehe, "political correctness should not exist in space".

Yeah, it probably doesn't. It also doesn't care if you're a man or a woman or an alien.

People are always pissed about any choice to play any role.

People were furious about Heath Ledger being cast as the Joker, and now he is widely considered one of, if not the, best jokers of all time. I still like Mark Hamill's joker the best though.

I'm a big Dr. Who fan and welcome this news. If any show should do this, it is this one. With the way the last season ended, I had a good idea that it might happen. There was a lot of talk in the last two episodes between the doctor and Missy/Master about previous female past regenerations.

Cool. It's a been a while (since the Matt Smith era) that Doctor Who really was great.

I'm still pissed that Idris Elba isn't James Bond.

I do not know what it is with people that don't like talent over defined roles.

Well, if I wrote a movie or a book, and they took a character that I wrote and completely changed the character, that would probably piss me off. Some characters are meant to be open to a wide range of casting, but some are not. Especially if they're central to the story. With that said, there's no reason why the Doctor can't be a woman. I really enjoy strong female characters. But sometimes it feels like they only cast certain people just to appease the SJWs... so I don't know.

As a longtime Who fan I think this is great. The whole series could use a creative reboot. Get someone like Joss Whedon in there. Sometimes the new stories lag in the way certain Terry Nation serials did. Not enough grit and too formulaic. I still think Christopher Eccelston fucked Whovians over by not allowing us a couple more seasons.

I think Billie Piper stole that show - and he split.

He was fucking great. The guy was born to play Dr. Who. I mean, one year! The BBC fucked him on his contract and he apparently wanted more stipends or control. Or that's what I heard.... something like that.

He's on record saying he only wanted to do it one year, but then again, people say a lot of things. |

For me, Matt Smith is my doctor. But I've grown to appreciate David Tennant and Peter Capaldi. Capaldi's start was a bit wonky, and it didn't help that Matt Smith's finale episode was pretty crappy (especially compared to the epic finale with David Tennant), and the first few stories of Capaldi were crap.

I haven't watched this since Russell Davis left, is it worth getting back into?

Well, the Incredible Hulk isn't being produced as a stand alone because of ownership. Someone owns James Bond just like Dr. Who.

If they make a mistake casting it costs them money. Idris Elba can play any part he feels comfortable with as far as I'm concerned.

I'd watch him play Mary Lou Retton in her life story if he wanted to do it. (I'm sure it would suck of course)

I grew with up Tom Baker but really appreciate Peter Davison. Smith is my favorite of the new Doctors. The whole series could probably do with another hiatus if this new doctor doesn't work out. It's kind of like Star Trek in many ways. Has that brand name, retread feel to it. And the old episodes.... they don't even fucking make them any more. So you have to pay ridiculous prices for them. I ended up paying an arm and a leg for the Black Guardian Trilogy. The BBC will only make old episodes available in the UK from now on until they hook up a streaming option.

I like David Tennant. I love his charisma. Very entertaining.... but I never got to Matt Smith. I got burned out and stopped watching.

I'm amazed it's been going on as long as it has actually. What over 26 seasons, that's insane. I don't know how you maintain quality and decent scripts that long. Some of those pre-reboot years towards the end of the 80's were absolutely terrible though.

This is the first season I've watched since I started with Matt Smith where I didn't make a point of watching it or watching episodes twice. I don't remember what year I started watching, I was sick and saw a marathon on BBC-Amerca and got hooked. It was after he replaced Tennant though.

Ironically enough, this was imho, Capaldi's best work and the best season since the Ponds left.

You could give it a try, now that Moffett has left. It was his time to leave, imho.

I always hate the new Dr until I end up loving them....hehe. Tenant is still my favorite, but the strongest writing and story lines came during Matt Smith's watch. The Capaldi era wasn't the best, but I thought they went out pretty well. It is a series that does need to be freshened up every couple of years though. It was time. I look forward to a clean slate to see what they can make of it. Geronimo!

Dr. Who has always been cerebral. He was never a physical character. This is perfect for a talented female actors' opportunity to provide time travel and exposing hilarious creatures in a BBC drama.

Think of how many times they can have the "bad guys", who know the Doctor, respond with "you're not the Doctor, where is the Doctor"?

I hope they make one of his "enemies" say "you can't be the Doctor, he's a..well, man. He's always been a man"

David Tennant was my favorite - it also helps that the best episode ever (Blink) had him and the best quote ever came from that same episode.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually — from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint — it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly... timey-wimey... stuff

Matt Smith was cool, he was funny and the weird love triangle was fun.

Capaldi I tried to like, just could not. Could be that it was also because the stories got somewhat repetitive. I welcome the idea of a new doctor and a new show-runner.
