I'm still pissed that Idris Elba isn't James Bond.People are always pissed about any choice to play any role.
People were furious about Heath Ledger being cast as the Joker, and now he is widely considered one of, if not the, best jokers of all time. I still like Mark Hamill's joker the best though.

I do not know what it is with people that don't like talent over defined roles.
As a longtime Who fan I think this is great. The whole series could use a creative reboot. Get someone like Joss Whedon in there. Sometimes the new stories lag in the way certain Terry Nation serials did. Not enough grit and too formulaic. I still think Christopher Eccelston fucked Whovians over by not allowing us a couple more seasons.
I think Billie Piper stole that show - and he split.
He was fucking great. The guy was born to play Dr. Who. I mean, one year! The BBC fucked him on his contract and he apparently wanted more stipends or control. Or that's what I heard.... something like that.
Well, the Incredible Hulk isn't being produced as a stand alone because of ownership. Someone owns James Bond just like Dr. Who.Well, if I wrote a movie or a book, and they took a character that I wrote and completely changed the character, that would probably piss me off. Some characters are meant to be open to a wide range of casting, but some are not. Especially if they're central to the story. With that said, there's no reason why the Doctor can't be a woman. I really enjoy strong female characters. But sometimes it feels like they only cast certain people just to appease the SJWs... so I don't know.
He's on record saying he only wanted to do it one year, but then again, people say a lot of things. |
For me, Matt Smith is my doctor. But I've grown to appreciate David Tennant and Peter Capaldi. Capaldi's start was a bit wonky, and it didn't help that Matt Smith's finale episode was pretty crappy (especially compared to the epic finale with David Tennant), and the first few stories of Capaldi were crap.
I like David Tennant. I love his charisma. Very entertaining.... but I never got to Matt Smith. I got burned out and stopped watching.

I haven't watched this since Russell Davis left, is it worth getting back into?
Dr. Who has always been cerebral. He was never a physical character. This is perfect for a talented female actors' opportunity to provide time travel and exposing hilarious creatures in a BBC drama.
