Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

I have a feeling Dirk is gone after the year is over anyway. There's no way Dallas can give him a huge contract at this stage in his career. They need to rebuild.

Think Dirk will get traded? Are we interested? Lopez/Matthews for Dirk? Start Freeland and CJ. Bring Dirk off bench as super sub and crunch time player.

Uh, no.

Seriously? Dirk is one of the best, but at this stage of his career that's a step backwards. Why on earth would we do this trade? Common sense wins this one.

To win now.

Dude... he makes 22 million this year. We couldn't even remotely match that salary in trade. Lopez and Matthews maybe make half of what Dirk makes. Houston on the other hand could come up with the money to match it, and the youngish talent to appease Cuban.

Didn't he say he would take a paycut to bring in another good player?

How much of a paycut? Right now he makes 22 million a year. Even at 11 million, half his current salary, that's a lot of cap space on a team that needs to rebuild.

Next summer when his contract ends, Nowitzki's taking a large pay cut, and it won't be him sacrificing to add a teammate.

Looking at their teams contracts/salaries they will have ~27,000,000 in cap room this summer. Lets say Dirk gets a 2/22 that still leaves enough money for a max contract, and a good Mid-Level player.

I guess we'll see. If I was Dallas, I would trade Dirk and tank. Their team is pretty old and depressing. Vince Carter, Jose Calderon, Shawn Marion, Devin Harris, Monta.... I'd part them out and hope to get a top five pick, then use the cap space to go after a max player. They don't have a single young stud right now.

I agree with that idea, but it's hard to move 22 mil. Carter, Marion, and Harris are expiring this summer anyway. They are pretty tied down to Ellis and Calderon though.

If I were the Mavs I would be calling Indiana and offering up Dirk and Carter for Granger, Stephenson, Scola, and Solomon Hill. Then tank the season, and get a lottery pick. However, I doubt that would work.

I think Dirk has some real value to a team that is looking to make a push. He's not a #1 anymore, but he could very easily be a huge contributor to a playoff team. He's a threat. He doesn't fit Indy's style though. They want bruisers. He would be absolutely perfect for Houston though. Not sure if Dallas would deal him to Houston though.

Weird: all the losing teams were (a) all road teams (not so weird) but (b) all scored 95.

Monty's not having fun with the Pelicans. So much for Tyreke Evans and Austin Rivers.

Why in the world would we want Dirk Nabitchky? Is he going to play small forward for us?

I think that's a great deal for both teams. Faried, I think, will be loved down there. He may not be great. But the media will eat up and overplay his hustle (which isn't necessarily a bad thing)

Re: The 2013-14 Around The NBA Thread......

Watching the Houston vs Philly game and seeing Howard yelling at Lin. They are hack a Howard already in the first half

Houston is gonna freak out in a few weeks and trade for granger or something dumb

According to Woj, DEN has rejected the NY offer.

Well, duh! Faried has game changing energy (when he wants to) while Shump doesn't have near the impact that Faried already has.

Neil should be all over this. Faried as 6th man would be huge for the bench.

T-Rob+Wes?
