I wanted him bad.

Paul George is a much better defender than Batum, at defend 1s through 4s.

Paul George is not a better defender then Batum. His whole team is great defensively but switch him with Batum and those defensive numbers the Pacers are putting up dont change.

I'd make that swap in a heartbeat. George is probably better right now and his overall ceiling is higher than Batum's. He's going to emerge as a star in the next couple years.

He went 10th in the 2010 draft so he was never a realistic target for the Blazers. Oh well.

Batums DRtg is 106, George's is 96. That is a huge difference.

Batum allows an average PER of 12.7 and his opponents shoot 50% eFG.

George allows an average PER of 11.1 and his opponents shoot 39% eFG.

Batum has 1.4 defensive win shares this season, George has 3.2.

It's easy to see in the games and in the stats that George is a better defender.

He's also a better three point shooter, has the same assist rate with a lower turnover rate, and obviously a much better rebounding rate than Batum.

And he's 2 years younger.

George is helped out by a great defensive team overall. Every starter on that team is a good defender.
As for watching them, I only catch a handful of pacer games a year and george is a little more physical but doesnt look better then Batum.

Im pulling up different stats then you are. Wonder if something's up with basketball reference because im on my phone. Shows george with a lower assist rate same turnover rate but a lower efg%

Do you have it set to cumulative or single seasons? I'm just looking at stats from this season. Nic's eFG% is still higher though, as is his ORtg. Their assist percentages are both 18.7%, Batums TO rate is 15.9%, George's is 14.5%. Batum has been better at overall offense, George is just better at threes. But with George's assist rate already as good as Batum's, I can only think his playmaking will improve, as Batum's has.

^ He now has three 18+ ppg/10+ apg games in a row (though he started one of those due to Curry being out with an injury).

Trade

The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to a multiplayer trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers, slicing more than $6 million off their payroll to get under the luxury tax threshold, league sources told ESPN.com.

Memphis would send Marreese Speights, Wayne Ellington and Josh Selby to Cleveland for Jon Leuer to slice more than $6 million off their payroll and get under the luxury tax threshold.

A trade call to finalize the deal is scheduled for Tuesday.

Reducing payroll both short- and long-term has been a goal of the new Grizzlies ownership and led to other trade talks involving Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph over the past several weeks.

Speights averages 6.5 points and 4.7 rebounds as a key big man off the bench for the Grizzlies but makes $4.2 million this season and has a player option at $4.5 million for next season. The Grizzlies owe Gay, Randolph and Marc Gasol nearly $50 million alone next year.

Ellington is averaging 5.5 points in 40 games off the bench for the Grizzlies (26-14), who stand fourth in the Western Conference and second in the Southwest, five games behind the San Antonio Spurs.

The Cavs were able to make the deal because they had more than $10 million in cap space in which to absorb Speights. That likely would mean the Grizzlies would receive a trade exception of more than $6 million that would be good for a year.

Selby has played in only 10 games this season, averaging two points. Leuer has played in nine games, averaging 2.4 points.

Seems like the Grizz want to hold onto Rudy Gay after all.

At least Humphries got to tap that shit. Ace of Base style. Smitty can't say as much.

Today is the 7th anniversary of Kobe's 81 point game.........Gilbert Arenas is the only player other than Kobe Bryant to even reach 60 points in a game since the start of the 2005-06 season

David Robinson's 72 point game is still more impressive.

72 points
14 rebounds
5 assists

I'm not sure the guy who is a HORRIFIC FT shooter, who hasn't won jack shit in the league should do anything but suck up to the guy who has won multiple NBA titles and an MVP.

Well, when its a laker...yes.

Yes but his teammates so goal that night was to get DRob the scoring title. It didn't come in the natural flow of the game. It was a meaningless game vs the Clips I believe.

@nbastats: In month of Jan., @Jrue_Holiday11 only player avg. min. 20.0p, 9.0a. Also 1 of just 2 (@russwest44) avg. 18.0p, 8.0a for season #PHIvMIL

You're right, last game of the season.

A game against the Raptors in LA is pretty meaningless as well.
