Just a weird random thought.
These types of altercations give you an appreciation for Dame and how he conducts himself. I would be absolutely shocked to hear him say anything like that. Im sure he’s had racial slurs, been trash talked too, same things RW deals with. Dame is such a special guy, and we should appreciate him while he’s here.

Westbrook is a thug and i still cannot believe he was not thrown out of the Blazers game last week and if this does not make the NBA do something like suspend him for 2 or 3 games then nothing will and if they do not then Adam Silver you are a complete joke.
Whys he a thug? He does charitable work off the court and has never been in trouble. He said something wrong on the court and you're quick to label him a thug.

Hmmm...

And I think RW is absolutely in the wrong for those comments, but calling him a thug is wrong.

Man, talking shit on the court is part of the game. So between players it is what it is, but to start threatening fans, that's too much. I'm still trying to figure out how telling him to get down on his knees is "racial"......that seems like more of a "sexual" thing if you ask me.

He is out of line on this one. I don't think fans can say whatever they want, but Westbrook was WAY wrong tonight.
They were both in the wrong. People on Twitter acting like it's one or the other, when both of them shouldnt have said what they said.

So Im white (mostly German and Scottish and Native American (But raised as a white kid, and only like an 8th NA), so Im just trying to find the line of being compassionate about race. I took that comment as sexual too, but slaves were told to get on their hands and knees, and they were treated literally like dogs and filth, and I guess thats why I was asking the question. Can telling a Black guy get on your knees like that be taken as are you saying Im less human and more animal? I dont know Im not Black, but I do know I appreciate conversations Ive had with Dviss and others helping me to understand why they take somethings as racism that I wouldnt think of that way. Hope that makes sense.
Yeah I didnt realize the racist undertone at first either.

The team that's concerning to me is Houston. They've taken full advantage of OKC's recent slide by winning 8 straight. CP is rounding into form and their role players are playing well again.
Houston has outside shot at #1 seed.

Houston will be the number 2 seed. Utah takes 3rd and Blazers 4th Denver and OKC battles 5th place (either one is a bad match up for the Blazers)
Utah is 8th now. Don’t see them getting to third. As for us, if Warriors are 1 seed and we don’t get top 4 seed, the 6th seed will be better than 5th seed.

In the OKC/Portland game, Westbrook went 4 rows into the stands under the basket to yell at a fan. Don’t know if that was caught on camera, but I was wondering why he didn’t get ejected for it. Probably does this at every game to work himself up and just got caught in Utah.

Do you think RW gets punished at all for threatening to beat up someone and his wife?

If Westbrook can take a run at a player from behind and 'chuck' him into the floor, go into the stands in the same game and then the nonsense that happened in Utah and NOT get suspended, I'm wondering exactly what it would take for a 'star' to get a suspension? On the other hand, if a fan is saying racially inappropriate things, that fan has to be suspended as well. As for other crap fans say, that is part of the game. It happens at every level and both as a player and a referee, you just have to learn to ignore that nonsense. #SticksAndStones

Fan is short for fanatic. Fans say all kinds of shit to players and referees. We have no clue of what was said to Westbrook.

He is a professional basketball player. He makes millions. He can ignore it. He goes at it with fans every game. He talks just as much shit as they do. He went into the stands last game against us to yell at fans. He jaws with fans every game I see him play. He is disrespectful and a bad sport.

The fans are held responsible for their actions. They are handed warning cards and then removed from games if they continue. He needs to be held responsible too.

Houston running on all cylinders, seems impossible to predict first round matchups

Wen a player/or any person says :I'm going to f you up and your wife" tells me a lot about the guy. Those words seemed to flow out of his mouth to easily for me.
If he had said "Im going to kick your ass if you don't shut up" I could handle that and still not agree with it.
F u up and your wife is nothing less than punk street/gangster talk.

I don’t doubt that the fan said something that would warrant him getting kicked out of the arena. That’s not the issue. The league has policies about dealing with obnoxious fans. The issue is that Westbrook’s reaction was just as out of bounds as the fan’s conduct. Repeatedly and very seriously threatening physical violence against the guy AND his wife? C’mon dviss1, you’re a good parent and I’m willing to bet that you’ve told your son that someone else’s bad behavior doesn’t justify your own bad behavior.

If Russ had just told the guy to go F himself and the reported him to a ref or security, I’d back him completely. His reaction though was way out of bounds. The league will have to issue a severe reprimand as well as instructional information to players about how they are supposed to deal with abusive fans. Anything else could lead to these kinds of incidents becoming an even bigger problem in the future.

It's just funny that Russ is playing the victim card now with his teammate Fatty Felton sticking up for him like he's not culpable.

Utah has some of the dirtiest fans in the league -- that's nothing new given the cues they took from Stockton et al, but Westbrook is an asshole. He was antagonizing Portland fans and got in his feelings last week too. Dude has really thin skin and escalates shit.

Doesn't matter what was said. Ignore it like every other player. And if you think it crosses the line, ask security to handle it. What you don't do is start threatening people in attendance and their wives.

So, how about using that pea-sized brain a bit? Instead of going thug and repeatedly threatening physical harm to the guy and his wife, maybe walk over to a ref, let him know the guy is being an ass, and have the fan ejected from the arena.

Silver will suspend and fine Westbrook, IMO.

Damn, e_blazer got jokes! Westbrook calmly talking to a ref? That's a good one.

Russ is the joke. He’s free to do whatever he wants. Like they say, though, if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. If he physically threatens fans he should be fined and suspended. If he’s okay with that, then thug on. As a Blazers fan, I love his suspensions.

What happened to DameTime?

The dumbest part of all for Westbrook is that this guy should mean nothing to him.

Westbrook's schedule is pretty much public knowledge. This guy could be a nutjob and wait until a game next year when Russ has already forgotten about the whole thing and do something crazy.

There is absolutely no reason for him to get into it with a fan. At most point him out to security as you and everyone else said.

So... From my perspective what he said to him didnt really seem that bad. I’d probably just laugh and silently know the guys an idiot and not worth my time.

I kind of want to hear from @dviss1 or HCP, or other minorities though. Do you guys think that was racially driven, a veiled way of dehumanizing a Black guy? Because I can kind of see that.

I still think RW should know he’s the guy in the room with the most to lose just get a ref to boot them from the game, but Id be willing to have some dialogue in the off topic forum about it!

I don't see anything racially driven here.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I think what Russ said was over the top. There was an eloquent way to clown that moron and Russ should've found it. He had a chance to own the narrative and didn't take advantage of that chance.

The fact is, regardless of what anyone says, black people represent our entire race wherever we go. How one of us acts is a reflection on us as a whole. Russ made us (black folk) look bad IMHO.

How the guy can call Westbrook classless after he said something to him that employed so little class IMO is asinine.

Really quickly, stop this shit now rookie.

Have you ever heard of Westbrook being in a gang?

Right.

So stop using code words racists use to disparage us.

Figure it out.

Edit: great job @BonesJones
