I think you all on here that thought we were going to have Nurk back earlier rather than later, might want to tame those eager expectations a bit. I said from Day 1 it won’t be til AFTER all star break at the earliest.

Wanna put money where your mouth is and bet?

CJ talks about Nurk being in a better, happier, state of mind with the start of the season. Said you could tell how down he was at the end of last season. Now he's back to cracking jokes and such.

yeah, I've heard the "we're going to run more" stuff plenty of times before, but it almost never becomes reality, at least not relative to their pace compared to the other 29 teams.

as far as Simons, I wonder where Olshey if drawing the line for being considered "young". If it's 20 and under, that's one thing (c'mon...better than Trae Young?). If it's 24...which is still fairly young, it's over-the-top hype, once again

by the way, the official who kicked Nurkic when he was down is Tyler Ford

I don't think Olshey would risk his professional credibility and reputation on Simons if he didn't think he was going to do some great things. Saying that, it's quite lofty in expectations but I'm buying it with some skepticism.

Olshey drafted Meyers, praised him constantly. He reportedly tried to give Meyers 15M/year, which Meyers turned down. He then said directly to Meyers, in an exit interview IIRC, something like "if you believed in yourself half as much as I believe in you, you'd be an all-star". He then gave Meyers a 41M contract

Olshey had several years of Evan Turner to use as a gauge and still ended up giving ET a giant albatross contract.

now he's saying that Simons is the most gifted players he's ever drafted, and he 'drafted' Lillard. Olshey has some credibility, but one thing he shouldn't be credited with is perfection. He's also been guilty of over-hype in the past, and it sure looks like he was selling some of that today

yeah...it would be so much better to draft guys and say they suck in interviews eh? Building confidence is part of his job. I think he's been a great GM looking at the big picture...

When has anyone credited Olshey with perfection? Can any GM claim that? Is "perfection" the barometer for a good GM? He's one of the best GMs in the league.

somebody said that Olshey wouldn't be risking his credibility by saying those things about Simons if he didn't believe it

but just because he might believe it doesn't make it true. Furthermore, he didn't stake out a he's-going-to-be-a-decent-player position. He said he is the most gifted player he's ever drafted, which obviously includes Dame.

personally, I think Simons has a chance to be pretty good. But Dame level good? c'mon...slow the hype down just a little

He said he is the most gifted player he's ever drafted, which obviously includes Dame.
When he said this he also said that Dame through hard work and 4 years of college is a self made superstar....at 19 he thinks Ant has more raw talent than a 19 year old Dame....he never said Ant was better than Dame....Dame was quite a bit more battle tested as a rookie than Ant...Ant didn't even sniff college ball...Ant might turn out to be a better 2nd year player than CJ was his sophomore season even though CJ had college experience...not 6 year vet CJ though

I haven't had a chance to listen to any interviews. Which players said something of value that I should go back & listen to?

Pretty much everyone in the loop has said February is expected.

Never sounded more than speculation. I also like how Olshey admitted they’re being vague on purpose. Lends credence to the theory that they only said February to avoid any questions and not have a situation where people are expecting him back at a certain time. February is a super conservative date. They most likely know he’ll be back before then.

So, hype summary:
Simons--"best player in the gym", "as talented as anyone Neil's ever drafted"
Hezonja--"plays with thrust", "point forward", accelerating the pace
Bazemore--"elite on both offense and defense"
Collins--"outstanding shot blocker", "best defensive player Whiteside has ever played with"
Whiteside--"loves passing", "will have a triple double"

What else should be added to the above list?
