Shit! Wrong thread.

That was supposed to go into the Lillard thread.

What aldridge fails to realize (if this is true) is that a team will never win a championship with him as their main guy. He's robin, not batman. If he goes to San Antonio then he'll be living in Duncan's shadow and when Duncan retires, good luck trying to fill those shoes. As for LA, that'll always be Kobe's team. And when kobe retires they'll find someone more marketable than aldridge.

Like Russell?

Nick Young alone should take the Lakers out of the Aldridge sweepstakes.

I would hate to see him 4x a year with the Spurs. I wouldn't mind him being in Dallas or L.A.

Its different. I think he feels Portland should be showing him that love. We gave continually chose to vat players over him as the face of the franchise, and he resents that.

well, he doesn't exactly put himself out there often. He's Mr Private/wants to be in Dallas anyways. So, that sounds like a bogus reason.

And according to reports, he does.

Which is why the fact that he's taking SEVEN meetings is a slap in the face of everything this city and franchise has given him. He's burning bridges with the fans, the front office, and his teammates (think Dame appreciates this fiasco?)

Even if he comes back to us with his tail between his legs, he will have some work to do to earn some trust again.
The only way I could embrace LMA again is if he came back to the Blazers and let it be known that he was just screwing with all the other teams so they wouldn't be able to get the free agents they really needed and just to mess up their planning in general. I know that isn't what he's doing but there is this sappy part of me that wishes it was.

Stuff you guys have all been told and refused to believe because no one believes people can have friends with knowledge of anything.

Aldridge does not like Portland
Aldridge does not like constantly being second or third fiddle to someone else on team.
Aldridge has been here many year and we have yet to come close to a title.
He needs to see and feel the love.
He may stay but it will be for the money, not for ANY other reason he may say to the media

I'm sure he doesn't like Portland.
Nowhere he's looking would he be first fiddle.
At some point in time, LA has to put that record of lack of playoff success on him.
He needs to put himself out there if he wants to "feel the love". People certainly don't dislike him.
If he does stay, I suspect it will be for the money. And I don't really care why he stays, only that he does.

They have Maroon 5 singing him songs and celebrities harassing him on Twitter, do they have any type of actual basketball plan, or just celebrities?
Hey, it works in presidential elections....

Even if he did that, there is no way in hell that he would admit it

I think Lamarcus is gone. Look at these other guys who wanna actually stay with the team like a Marc gasol or jimmy butler. Lamarcus was so quiet and now he's meeting with all these teams and it's one big show. This is definitely a slap in the face to portland fans.

Some like to say "well he deserves this, I don't blame him if he leaves". I do. Let's not forget we lost Brandon Roy and oden to injuries, at the time we were supposed to be favorites in the west with those three. Last season was the closest until Wesley went down. This dude could easily be trying to help us out and get Monroe here and have an overall better team and a monster front court but I don't think he really cares honestly.

I'm ready to move on from him since he's clearly shown he doesn't wanna be here. Constantly heard rumors he's tired of being in the shadow of dame and that he isn't appreciated yet he's never addressed these rumors in person because they are probably true. It's not our fault Adidas marketed the shit out of dame and Lamarcus is a pretty boring personality.

Another thing. Yeah I get it, San Antonio is a great franchise but honestly he's got one year to try and win with them. After that, pop, duncan, and ginobili are most likely gone. Left in the shadows of kawhi because San Antonio obviously wants kawhi to be the face of that franchise. As for the other teams, they are all shitty and it makes no sense.

So go ahead LA and turn your back on the franchise. Destroy your 9 year legacy here and remain the 2nd best blazer. Turn down the money for one good year in San Antonio. Ready to move on

I'm really having trouble understanding in the end what causes LA to leave. He leaves $28MM on the table, he heads to likely a worse team, he diminishes his legacy by losing his chances at the top spots on the franchise list and if he's interested in the HOF (which would demand another three-five plus years of All Star performances IMO), staying with one team with the same role increases his chances.

And I've made this point before, but he has no idea how good he has it here. Win or lose, we love our Blazers. They're the only game in town. He goes to the Spurs and they win less than 50 games, the long knives are out. If he goes to the Rockets or L*kers, he's not going to be the face of the franchise.

He would really have to hate it here to give all of that up.

You've got to figure that Portland is pretty boring unless you are already wifey-'ed up. Nothing around that, this is his life and he wants to enjoy it outside of basketball I think. If he leaves, its not because of the direction of the Blazers, its just that Portland Oregon is boring if you're not into suburban life, or outdoor shit, or into microbrews with scruffy hipsters.

I'd be really pissed too, but as someone living in LA, the lifestyle out here is pretty great if you're not married.

?

I'd rather get Green in a S&T for LA than let him go for nothing to the Lakers.

But this is curious of how they'd be able to afford him if they keep him.
I'd rather LA have decided he'd rather take the money here than go to SA.

10.1 mil is a steal

Good deal but to get LA, I thought hey would have to cut/release/renounce cap holds on just about everyone. They either have another plan to shed salary or they think LA is going elsewhere after their meeting.

:matrix:

Should also bring Wes' asking $ down a bit.
I doubt it. Wes has pride and I suspect he doesn't give a shit who makes what. He thinks he's better than Green and probably in the same tier as Harden. God bless him!

so at this point SAS has signaled to the world (and LMA) that they have Kawhi and Green in the bag for 4+ years...it's not just the Timmy/Manu/Tony show anymore.

Now, will that matter? :dunno:

The rumor is Cleveland will give them Haywood's 10.8 mil contract for Splitter

This timing is definitely interesting. Why did this news and the Kawhi news come out now? Did the meeting with Aldridge happen or is it later today?

This is prolly it.

Sigh

Meeting hasn't happened yet. I suspect part of the pitch is "we won't have a decimated team when you arrive.

I know you mostly focus on our cap but you should look at theirs. No way they should be able to afford LMA now without moving someone like Splitter. (Edit: looks like Splitter was just traded. Dang it!) http://www.sbnation.com/2015/6/30/8...alary-cap-lamarcus-aldridge-free-agent-rumors
