Sea Otter, Seward, AK
Just saw your AK pics. Love them. I've been to Denali. We drove all the way up to Prudhoe Bay, and down to Homer. Alaska is the most beautiful state I have ever been to. I'd live there if my wife would let us.

I would LOVE to live in Alaska, but they are so isolated that they have a Blockbuster Video. It's totally weird up there.

Ultimately, I could get past the weird though. Can't be worse than Portland, am I right? :biglaugh:

Glad I found this thread. It's inspired me to post more from my DC trip.

I took these at slightly different angles, with different lighting:

Years later, I went back and looked at these two photos, and I remember feeling incredibly sad. Three little flags, huddled together as if afraid of the sun and seeking the comfort of the lost souls named in the wall.

And finally....a much younger and fitter me:

I don't think I can handle the cold - but summers in Alaska are amazing. My wife fell in love with Seward. I suspect we will spend some extended time there at some point, maybe after the kids grow up and leave to college.

This was my 2nd trip to Alaska - and I know it is not the last. It really is an amazing place.

More photos from my DC trip in the first week of May, 2005.

There was a lot of construction going on around the Capital. I guess when you get 20 inches of snow in the winter, you only have a narrow time-frame to do it in. So if you see scaffolding and ugly tarps in various pictures, then you'll know why.

The Washington Monument was closed to the public while they did major renovations . Something which we didn't know until we got there.

These pictures will focus on Arlington, including the Changing Of The Guard, JFK's Grave, and the Space Shuttle Columbia's Crew resting place. Some pictures I will not include because they're just "filler" photos; pictures taken for context.

All pictures were taken with a Fujifilm Finepix 3800 camera with 3 MP zoom.

Unfortunately, this was as close as we got to the Pentagon on this trip. I really wanted to see it, but we only had so much time to do so much.
