For the curious: The NHL system includes a hard spending cap and its lockout severely rolled back player salaries and power.

One way or another the owners are going to get their way and something tells me the players are stupid enough to postpone crying uncle until sometime next August. For whatever reason they can't seem to grasp the fact that they have absolutely no leverage.

These idiots are so caught up on percentages that they're losing sight of real likelihood of killing, or at least severely wounding, the goose that lays the golden eggs. IIRC, last season's BRI was around $4 billion. 50% of $4 bil = $2 bil. If BRI drops to $3 billion due to a loss of fan base over this stupid lockout, 53% of that for the players would be $1.59. You go, players, win the percentage battle.

Hunter "there's no way in the world" players will go for an NHL-like system. So here we are

On the plus-side a full season lockout and a draconian CBA (from the NBAPA's perspective) makes the Blazers staying in Portland a much more likely thing once PA is gone/done. Assuming of course that owners craft a better revenue sharing system.

Fisher: "We made several moves on the tax...Brought it down...They're dead set on running the table."

In the end they will ... or they'll end up playing in charity games or in Europe for the rest of their careers and miss out on hundreds of millions of dollars.

NBPA's Billy Hunter: "We fought too long and made too many sacrifices to get where we are."

SpearsNBAYahoo: Hunter: "They knew when they presented what they presented to us that it wasn't going to fly. You better bring Adam (Silver) back..."

NBPA's Hunter: "Unless the system is right, there is no way we're willing to come off 53 [percent of BRI]."

Hunter: "Adam is not being truthful if he says he came in hopeful. There's no way they came in thinking that would fly..."

Hunter: "The bigger market (owners), the guys who want to cut a deal, don't have the votes."

Hunter: "Unfortunately what we have to do is miss more games for this to set in... We are on a slippery slope."

Hunter: "Philosophically, it's a real large gap between the groups." He added NBA wants pre-condition of 50-50 BRI to meet again.

Hunter on decertification: "All of our options are on the table. Everything."

NBPA's Hunter: "I just assume as time goes on they're going to cancel more games."

Hunter: "Let us say on the record we are ready to negotiate at any time. But we don't want any pre-conditions though."

Kessler says union was told Paul Allen was at meeting "to express the views of the other members of the Board of Governors."

Hunter: "Let us say on the record we are ready to negotiate at any time. But we don't want any pre-conditions though."

Subtext: "I'm talking really tough to give my union members the appearance that we actually have any leverage or power ... but damn I hope these guys don't wise up or I'm out of a job."

Billy Hunter going down swinging: "I think it's all about putting money in their pockets. It's nice to talk about teams being competitive."

For all the momentum that had taken shape, the trust in these labor talks has been obliterated. Never been worse between the sides. Never.

Neither Adam Silver nor Billy Hunter addressed the fact that the season finale of Jersey Shore is tonight

Billy Hunter going down swinging: "I think it's all about putting money in their pockets. It's nice to talk about teams being competitive."

Well gee, no shit? Here I was thinking that business owners were in it to lose money!

Hunter and Fisher are desperate, and their star players making millions overseas isn't helping their case at all.

Hunter: "The bigger market (owners), the guys who want to cut a deal, don't have the votes."
This should be a clue. Unfortunately, it seems Hunter doesn't have one.

Hunter: "Let us say on the record we are ready to negotiate at any time. But we don't want any pre-conditions though."
No preconditions. Except that he will never no way in hell ever accept "only" 50% of gross revenue, of course. No preconditions though.

Allen is getting called the "grim reaper" now. lol

Kind of a shitty and insensitive label for him considering his recent recurrence of cancer and his battle with the disease. But, I don't expect the idiot player in the union to know or care about that...

He sort of was though. I compare it to a parent of one of those Paris Hilton wannabes saying "You will are moving out and I am taking the credit card away".

"You think you can make it on your own? Well, go do it!"

Every child at some point needs some firm parenting.

NBPA's Billy Hunter: "We fought too long and made too many sacrifices to get where we are."

Do you remember that game show that Howie Mandell did with the models holding suitcases? I can't remember the name but this statement reminds me of a lot of the people that played the game. They'd always keep going to win the highest remaining dollar amount left even if the odds were completely against them. They'd gotten that far and were determined to "finish" what they started. Meanwhile they were shooting themselves in the foot everytime a suitcase was opened after a certain point because they just kept losing money by being greedy.
