I mean they will still be the highest paid athletes as a whole in the world

Yeah poor players, the NBA players already had by far the best contract of any sports league

They are currently, and even in this latest deal will be, among the highest compensated athletes in professional sports.

The team size is so small in basketball that when you divide team payroll by number of players, of course the average salary will be higher than football, baseball, etc. So what.

I think the whole "hard liner" angle as seen on Broussard's twitter seems like a well orchestrated ploy by the owners. Leak that some of the owners are pissed that Stern has offered 50/50 and that they are hoping the players turn it down............sorry not buying it. I am not saying that the owners bottom line is fake, just that the way they are leaking it to the press seems kind of funny to me. But hey, whatever it takes to get the message across.

Just saw this on SportsCenter! This is nuts! Now they don't even like what the commish is doing? Hope the players turn the offer down?

Yeah that was my point. you can bet that Stern and the owners got together and thought of a way to get the players to think that 50/50 is actually a compromise! So they brought in the small market owners to act pissed that it was even being considered so the players would feel good about the deal. The problem is some of the players are not buying into it. Yet.......

But I doubt Stern and the owners are not on the same page about the BRI

I agree that the League orchestrates most leaks. Every time I read that the the players had better accept the owners' offer or the owners will decrease their 50% offer, I think, how come it never says that the owners had better accept the players' offer or the players will go back to 57%.

The wording is always from the owners' point of view, trying to bully the players into making even more concessions than they already have. The anonymous sources are always from the League. The revolts are always supposedly among the players, not among the owners.

Some posters harangue that the owners are more moral because they have expenses to cover and the players don't. Then the posters gloat that the players have expenses to pay and the owners don't, so the owners are in a controlling position.

It's one-sided. In many sentences I read, if I reverse the words "owners" and "players," the sentences make equal sense.

A group of disgruntled NBA owners held a conference call Monday to express their displeasure with the 50/50 revenue offer commissioner David Stern has presented to the players' association, according to sources with knowledge of the call.

The deal, which the union sees as an "ultimatum" offer, calls for players to receive anywhere between 49 and 51 percent of basketball-related income, but the group of displeased owners, the sources said, are hoping the players reject it. The owners are aware that the union's executive committee is opposed to the league's latest proposal, but they fear that the 30 player representatives set to meet in New York on Tuesday will push for approval of the deal.

Stern was not on the call, but the sources said up to 11 owners took part, including Charlotte's Michael Jordan, Portland's Paul Allen and Milwaukee's Herb Kohl.

"There are at least 15 owners who are praying that the players say no,'' one source said. "Because then they'll get the deal they want.''

The deal the hard-liners want is the one Stern said would replace the league's current offer if the players don't accept it by Wednesday at 5 p.m. The alternative offer features a 47 percent revenue split for the players, a flex cap, and rollbacks on current contracts.

One source said if the players accept the 50/50 offer, it will not be easy for Stern to get it approved by his owners.

"There are a large number of owners against (the 50/50 deal), but I think we have enough to get it passed,'' the source said.

Relax. The owners are on board. It's a negotiating ploy. No different than what Cleavon Little did in this scene:

Bucher

Likeliest NBA draft order formula if no season: 3 seasons aggregated for order, then lottery for worst 14. Slightly weighted in other ways.

Lot of tweeps see likely draft formula as unfair to Cle, good for Mia. Remember: Cavs have right to switch their pick w/Heat in '12.

Source says Wasserman Media Group, agency of Arn Tellem, had conf call today w/ players 2 discuss players options. WMG reps 70-plus guys.

One prominent NBA agent responded angrily to news that Michael Jordan is leading a group of hardline owners in labor negotiations with players.

The agent said that Jordan's position is hypocritical and he would never send another one of his players to the Bobcats.

"The guys are going bananas," another agent with several star players said Sunday night.

And because Allen is in that group with Jordan you have to ask what that's gong to mean for the Blazers down the line with respect to free agents ... not that Portland is exactly a hotbed, but still ...

Updated Y! Sports: NBA, owners could be willing to tweak system issues to cut deadline deal with union.

Stern will fight hard to get deal before Wednesday PM, but one thing's for sure: He's never had less pull with owners. They're emboldened.

You fell for Allen's act the other day hook, line, and sinker. You think a leopard changes his spots overnight.

If Allen had believed his brief little script, he would have continued talking to back it up. Instead, he was unable to answer a simple followup question. It was like asking Herman Cain about some detail of his 999 tax plan. Suddenly Allen wasn't taking questions.

The owners could easily afford 53-54%. They're just putting out negotiationg positions. You've never seen grandstanding like this before? It means nothing to you that they won't disclose their financial statements while they claim to be losing money? It's all theater. Allen hasn't jumped ship from his willingness to spend. Duh.

Maxiep may be the second-smartest guy on this board. But this should really be obvious to everyone. Apparently not.

You have a unique sense of comprehension and worldview. :)

Max may be smart, but look at his daughter, she looks like Chris Farley!

Seems like more and more players just want to play.

Jamario Moon tweeted this: "Deal or No Deal?..........Deal!!!!! Let's play some ball!" I kind of wish Howie Mandel was David Stern.

Jonny Flynn tweeted this: "Starting to see why so many things are outta wack. Ppl aren't held accountable. Let enough things slide & forget what's right." One thing that's out of wack? The amount professional athletes are paid to play a sport. But nobody's talking about that.

The majority needs to stand up and be heard!!!!!!!!! I feel like that wetback who got all the farmers together..... Eric Estrada right?

“@alanhahn: If #NBPA wants to turn tables, emerge today saying "We'll take this deal if.." and name a few changes. Pressure now on owners.”

The owners have already come out and said they would retry 50/50 with a few system changes for the players.

Nah, it was Senor 39th Avenue, I think.

remember when they added the "^still" to this? Wonder what the new one will be?

How far down the line? More than 30 days? I honestly think the emotional issues will be forgotten by 99% of the players by next summer. (If there is a season this year)

It's like me on this forum. I read some posts that are so idiotic that I want to strangle someone. And then 2 hours later....poof.... the frustration is gone and I totally forget which moron wrote it.

I know, I was laughing this morning reading Hoopshype and all the comments about how the "hard core owners" group did not even wnat this offer on the table and Stern is losing control! LMAO, but I have to say the owners propaganda dept. is good and the players one sucks.
