As one GM told me: "The age limit is a much bigger issue for the commissioner and owners than it is for (basketball executives)."

It is believed that Spurs owner Peter Holt will join Stern, Silver and high-ranking NBA legal staff.

Union economist Kevin Murphy is flying in to join Hunter, Fisher and union lawyers -- presumably including Jeffrey Kessler.

After apology to NBA commish David Stern, NBPA outside counsel Jeffrey Kessler will be at today's meeting with NBA

I just meant since when has a meeting been a good thing?

Today's the day... ?!

"It is believed that Spurs owner Peter Holt will join Stern, Silver and high-ranking NBA legal staff."

Let's go Holt get it done.

I just meant since when has a meeting been a good thing?

Just guessing. Er hoping.

But all indications are that the sides are VERY close, and it will take just inches from the owners to get it done.

I'm 24.

I guess I should have been clear, by basketball, I meant Trail Blazer basketball.

I'm heartened that Kevin Murphy is going to be at the talks. He's the smartest guy in the room, no matter the room. He also understands the bargaining position of the union and will push to get a deal done.

I hope that the union doesn't have Lebron James involved in this meeting. He always fails in crunch time.

Hopefully he can get them to understand

In meeting for players: Hunter, Fisher, Mo Evans, Kevin Murphy, Klempner, and yes, Kessler. Other exec board members could join.

For league: Stern, Silver, Peter Holt, Dan Rube and possibly Rick Buchanan. Small groups.

NEW YORK — With the clock ticking toward NBA commissioner David Stern’s open-to-interpretation deadline of “by the close of business on Wednesday,” lockout negotiations resumed this afternoon with only the heavy hitters in the room.
Stern, deputy commisioner Adam Silver and San Antonio Spurs owner Peter Holt, chairman of the league’s labor relations committee, were representing the owners along with senior NBA attorneys Dan Rube and Rick Buchanan.
Union director Billy Hunter, president Derek Fisher, executive committee members Roger Mason and Mo Evans were joined by economist Kevin Murphy and attorneys Jeffrey Kessler and Ron Klempner for the players.
The meeting began shortly after 1 p.m. EST, one day after the players indicated a willingness to compromise on financial issues (translation: accept a 50/50 split) in return for concessions on several salary cap-related issues. Click here for a rundown of what those issues are.
By saying “by the close of business on Wednesday,” Stern’s deadline has been interpreted to mean 5 p.m.
But it should be noted that different businesses have different closing times, and some stay open all night.

MM...... Deal coming soon?

Fuck if I know. I was told Nov 1st and playing by Dec 1st.

It would be incredibly stupid for the players not to take a deal though. De-certification will only help a handful of players, so it is in the unions best interest to get a deal done. The problem is that the owners know that, and aren't throwing Hunter a bone, which is really all it would take to end this

Hearing that at 9 p.m., union will offer new proposal: 57 percent, no salary cap, no trade rules, just good, wholesome family fun. #kidding

Tommy Beer: Any truth to the rumor that the players and owners will announce their Decision at a Boys & Girls Club in Greenwich, Connecticut?

An NBA spokesman just came into the media room and said "They're still meeting. That's your update." So much for 5 p.m. deadline.

League, union ordering in dinner. Make of it what you will. #smallmoves
