The Portland Trail Blazers 2017 Exit Interview (The Ringer)

Reciprocated? Meyers, for that to make sense you'd have to give me confidence in my job, but I don't feel like you have. So there's nothing to reciprocate.

If he's not talking about fans but rather the team, then good God is he confused. The Blazers are the ones who should feel like they haven't been reciprocated. They shelled out a shit load of money and you earned maybe a tenth of it. Be professional, take accountability or get the fuck out of town. I want to root for him but man he has just looked horrible and that's nobody's fault but his. And I don't care how many minutes you're getting, if you get a chance to play you need to be ready. Lately it's been like watching a co-ed rec league where teams always need to have at least one girl on the floor.

You need confidence, go listen to some Tony Robbins tapes before the game or get your dick sucked. It's not the responsibility of anyone else to spoon you and tell you how great you are.

/end rant (for now)

You're right though.

Every time he's given an opportunity to take responsibility, he uses either an injury or some bullshit about "being a rhythm player" as an excuse.

And this crap about being "the most excited about an offseason to improve as ever before" Lolol ok dude I could've sworn he said the same exact thing last year.

Painful. Sounds like he's been prepped to be traded.
Yes it was one of the most painful sports interviews ever. A psychiatrist would have a field day with all the contradictions between words and body language. So many times he talks about how excited he is for this summer; did anyone think he looked excited? And when he says everyone knows he could care less about criticism; isn't that the exact opposite of what is true; doesn't he care very much?

"I work well with confidence, and I don't feel like it's been reciprocated."

Is he calling out the coaches/players/management for not believing in him?
or is he talking about the fans?

"I could care less what people think"

- blocks everyone on Twitter-

I guess he could care less.

Did anyone catch Talking Ball last night? Going off my memory, Quick said he had a sit-down with Meyers after the game and it sounds like Meyers is really missing Kim Hughes. So that's a possible reason for why he hasn't really developed since Hughes was let go. I understand they were close, but he needs to suck it up. He's being paid $10 mil a year. He has to get better.

Also, Quick said that because Meyers wasn't healthy for most of last summer, he couldn't really work on his game. That would explain why Leonard had such a terrible year shooting the ball, not to mention whatever ailments he collected throughout the season.
If he likes Hughes so much why doesn't he hire him as a personal coach? I'm sure Hughes would love to have an extra $100,000 and Myers can afford it. He could even afford to rent them a gym.

Scalma and Ukrainefan, you are missing the meaning that I see in Meyers interview. He is clearly sensitive to the barrage of negative vibes that he is getting and is reflecting the truth that basketball is a game of confidence. What Meyers is missing is that zoning in that he has shown in earlier years when making 40% or more of swish3s, screening with excellence, and sharp passing. Both Dame and Meyers stated that feeling the confidence (which is what they mean when talking about getting the feel or getting the rhythm) is needed for optimum success. Yes, Meyers is stating some opposites, especially when he says that the criticism by fans is not a factor. "I could care less" is an opposite platitude. I think he says that because he hopes that saying this might decrease the negatives that he will receive.

What Dame, CJ, Allen, Noah, Chief, or any of the Blazers must feel as a major negative force against their performance is the kind of criticism that is showing in this forum. The negative vibrations of being booed that we saw in the game 4 playoff are hard to overstate. What all of the Blazers need is the feeling of fan support for the positives that they accomplish to play their best. When a player shoots with that "in the zone" feeling (or rhythm) based on confidence in what he can do for the team, you see the kind of success so vividly demonstrated by Curry, Durant, Thompson, and Green for the Warriors. When a player shoots with the haunting sounds of boos from his home court fans, the elements of fear negate that feeling of excellence and lead to missed attempts.

If you listen to the Dame and Meyers interviews carefully, you can see why it is important to provide these guys with confidence that leads to success. IMO, choosing to boo and to post condemning comments about Blazers is just destructive behavior. To make progress, I suggest that we look for ways to boost Blazer confidence, bringing more success with swish3s, screens, ball movement, defense, and wins next season.

I was just pointing out that Leonard is really messed up psychologically; he is not in tune with himself. He is actually lying to himself. I wish he could fix himself. And if you don't watch out i will start psycho-analyzing you because there is a hell of a lot to look at just in this post. :)

Cocaine's a helluva drug.

Can't believe people want to trade this guy for guys like Porzingis who didn't even show up for his exit interview. Intangibles matter, man.
So does defense.
(Never been a huge Porzingis fan, so I don't back that suggestion.)

I did not expect you to like my post, but we can agree that Meyers is not in tune with himself. At least part of the answer to why is that he is now feeling the force of negative comments and boos. That is something about which some comments in his support may help.

what does mo + 2 first rounders get you?
Olshey is a salesmen but he did make some valid points..

Maybe he shouldn't be horrible and it won't happen? He could have done that years ago.

Crazy how that works, huh?

If he's that fucking fragile, then he's never gonna be able be a contributing part of a championship team; you basically just called him a mental midget.
