No I didn't. Nurk would be in foul trouble every night with Crabbe starting.

Disagree.

Please refer to a previous post I made to a poster who liked your post for my answer.

If we could somehow get Lee and give Chicago Turner, that'd be great. Or keep Crabbe. Turner would be a bad fit with Wade, and we'd have 4 ball handling wings without ET.
Sure, but I assume that Chicago has zero interest in Turner. If they did, Lee probably wouldn't even need to be involved.

Yeah, I read that. So you feel like overworking our prized trade acquisition until his other leg falls off? Yeah, no thanks.

What did you read exactly? I will need to know to give an appropriate response.

Dame, CJ, Crabbe and Melo's defense would be better because Nurk is behind them.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I think this would eventually wear Nurk out and lead to injury. Crabbe and Melo are horrible defenders. And you want to add both of them to the starting lineup? If you were coaching, Nurk would be running around out there like a chicken with its head cut off.

Do you think Melo would be a bit better defender if he knew he didn't have to score 30+ to give his team a chance to win?
I'm not sure.
KD certainly realized it when he joined the Warriors... However KD was a pretty decent defender in OKC. So idk.

Starting Crabbe is such a poor move for Portland.

Melo is not a bad defender. He had a crappy team in NYC and it wasn't worth it. But in a winning situation like Portland, he'd be very good defender. He takes it personal against LeBron.

So you don't feel that last year the team sacrificed defense in order to spend more energy on offense because they knew they had no rim protector?

As soon as Nurk became a starter the teams' defense went from the worst in the league to top 10 in defense.

Why?

Because the guys knew that there would no longer be a layup line to the basket by the other team and had confidence in Nurk to defend the rim so the players could now focus on guarding and defending instead of worrying about who was cutting to the basket for an easy two points.

If someone can clean that up with more elegance go ahead. I know that sounds longwinded.

Everything you're saying is exactly correct.

What you're forgetting is, Vonleh and Harkless are our starters. You're trying to replace them both with Crabbe and Carmelo thinking that that is going to create some type of continuity on defense.

I disagree.

Check this out:

I like a lot of this video except for the first transition defense.
The guy puts it on Melo and sure he should be getting back.
However there is no reason why the shooter. I assume Tim Hardaway JR. Wasn't the first one back on defense. He shot. Get your ass back.

Before Nurk came quite a few people thought Vonleh was a bad defender too. So you just have Harkless as your argument.

Was Melo a bad defender in the Olympics? What about when he was with the Nuggets and going to the playoffs year after year?

As for Crabbe, for the first time in his career he would be a named starter to start the season. That's never happened for him and I feel that would give him the confidence to know that if he makes a mistake Stotts isn't going to yank him out and strand him on the bench for two weeks like he has when Crabbe has been a bench guy. He'll be able to shoot himself out of slumps like Stotts lets the starters do. Particularly Dame and CJ.

This will allow him to defend better because he will have a clear and focused mind on his opponent and not the coach.

Defense is effort, yes but you also need energy and motivation as well. With Nurk protecting the paint and to be a top 3 team in the west that should be plenty in motivation to be a top 10 in defense for the season.

Carmelo has always been a ball stopper and one of the most over-rated players - he puts in minimal effort and plays no D.
(Seems to have a poor attitude as well)

Anthony is on the down slope, at 34 - I'd rather continue to develop Harkless - who is one one of my favs on the team.
If the trade was for Leonard & Crabbe, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I literally stopped reading after this. The forum consensus has been that Vonleh has been a great defender.

Really? I am talking about one on one defense not double teams and help defense.

How many times last season did he hold the guy he was guarding below their scoring average?

Carmelo says he will waive his 8 million dollar trade kicker to help him get to Houston. How far would that go in helping Houston get him?
