Kanter makes little/no sense after the draft we just did

That depends on how quickly you want to win and how you evaluate your players. Just assume that Vonleh doesn't rock the NBA this year, then he will come up as a RFA, get a high offer based on potential, and you don't want to match because you need to save for Nurk. You also have other options in Aminu, Biggie, Davis and ZCo. If you lose Vonleh:

PG: Dame, CJ, Napier
SG: CJ, Crabbe, Turner, 2k
SF: Turner, Aminu, Crabbe, Layman
PF: Biggie, Aminu, ZCollins, Layman
C: Nurk, Canter, ZCollins

That makes a lot of sense to me. Looks pretty balanced.

Maybe the video of Biebs dunking on the 5'9" guy changed NY's mind about him.

I dont think HOU is involved in the trade, at least I read somewhere POR wont help them facilitate that deal
Cleveland then? Unless we get Kevin Love back, I don't want to get involved in that either. It could sort of work considering that New York won't want Love when they have Porzingis, and Love also becomes redundant at Cleveland if they intend to start Anthony at PF (which they have to do, or switch LeBron to PF).

Love to Portland
Anthony and Portland 2018 lottery protected pick (becomes unprotected in 2019) to Cleveland
Harkless, Leonard, Vonleh to New York

We shed Leonard's bad contract, give up our best small forward and a pick that could well end up between 16 and 20 or higher in 2019 to a team that might soon lose their starting point guard and decide to blow it up quite soon so they will need as many picks as they can get. New York get a good small forward they like at $10M a year and a young power forward to take bench minutes and fill in for Porzigis at times but also get Leonard's bad contract for salary matching purposes.

I think New York could prefer taking Crabbe and Harkless but they'd need to send out more salary. Maybe O'Quinn somewhere, since they get younger Vonleh?

Cleveland could then accept Aldridge (plus more) as return for Irving, and then get Wade for Shumpert and salary filler and be lining up with Rose/Wade/James/Anthony/Aldridge team. I know Aldridge is not a center but feck it, you have 5 players who are past their very best (maybe except James who does not seem to be declining) but will absolutely 100% want to prove a point. Could be fun. It'd be more fun for teams that got Love and Irving for less than their market value though.

Dan Sheldon on Rip City Mornings just said that Rice was talking about Melo to Houston and it is supposed to happen by the end of the week or even by the end of today.

:dunno:

It seems much more likely that Blazers would be willing to help Eastern teams than Houston or OKC. If Cleveland is blowing it up then this could happen.

I also want New York to be sort of decent as I am going to NYC in January and want to go to a game, preferably I don't want them to be absolutely shit.

If that is true, then it must mean picks or something of value is coming to Portland. Can't see them doing it for Mr. Anderson alone.

I think Cleveland could try to make a last surge next season while knowing that they build from scratch in 2018-19 onwards. Getting Anthony who can opt out next season (and will if LBJ leaves) means they can cut salaries, get some draft picks back and embrace for a long period of rebuilding.

I wouldn't mind this trade:

To Houston: Melo & Lance Thomas (bad contract) I tried to get Meyers set to Houston, but couldn't get it to work.

To Portland: R Anderson, Ariza, & Shawn Long (non-guaranteed prospect - with a decent chance to become something)

To NYK: Crabbe, Harkless, & Houston 1st (with non-guaranteed contracts of Quarterman, Taylor, & Onuakau)

Yeah no. RA is a non starter.

Yeah I don't want Anderson either. He's just a pure bad contract we won't be able to get rid of at any point. With the likes of Crabbe and Leonard, who are still reasonably young, you can still have remote hope that they get somewhat better or/and maybe someone takes them for potential. With Anderson there is zero hope, he will not get better or show that he's worth $20M a year.

Yeah, It is kinda confusing because when they were starting the show and the Rice tweet was mentioned Sheldon didn't say the tweet was about Houston but when he mentioned it again he did say Rice's tweet referred to Houston and there were other reports out saying the same thing and the names Nigel has heard are Anderson and Ariza(not saying that's who the Blazers are getting) so I don't know what to think.

Sheldon said they would discuss this more at 7:45am. 620AM if you want to listen for yourself.

Was the plan all along to make it seem like we weren't out to land Melo in Houston when really we were?

PR style stuff, for the fans and the players?

"We wanted to get Melo to PDX, but couldn't talk him into waiving no trade clause so we made the best move possible in the situation."

I don't see why we would do this whole song and dance.

Oh fuck. Dammit fonz.

People are gonna be like NO lucked into a good deal if it turns out well for us, and then you're gonna have the others saying "it was all a part of an elaborate scheme"

When in reality it could be all of the above or one or the other.

I hope they don't think we're that stupid. A shit trade is still a shit trade and any trade that involves us getting Ryan Anderson is a shit trade.

BNM

If this turns out to be true, and that's a big if, then I would hope that the delay by the Blazers has been for the purposes of getting the Knicks and Rockets to sweeten the pot to where it's no longer a shit trade. A couple of firsts, along with dumping at least one of our bad contracts, would achieve that.

I say we wait and see if we are involved what we actually get before we decide to have an opinion about the trade.
I don't think it's unreasonable to analyze in advance and determine with which combinations we would and would not be satisfied.

Nearly everyone and their mother has come out with the price for taking on Anderson being 2 first round picks. We better get that if we're taking him on.
Well one of those picks probably gets cancelled out for unloading one of our bad contracts... so I would be happy with one 1st rd pick

Ryan Anderson may not be ideal piece for Blazers to trade for, but it's better than not making any moves... Dame is 27 and the window is now... Ryno at the very least will open the paint for Nurkic, Dame, and CJ
