Even your ADL says you should look at the intent of the meme...

Because a majority of its uses weren’t intended as racism.

Totally. BUT to me it's like (not as bad! don't attack me for the comparison!) the Swastika (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika). Plenty of fine meanings, but come on. In this climate? Why the fuck?

And no way Melo is coming to Portland.

Not going to attack you at all, I just think it’s a bit much to jump on someone and say they’re a white supremacist because they have a cartoon frog picture. I actually had forgotten all about the whole Pepe being a “hate symbol” thing from 2016. So many things are considered “hateful” by someone it’s really hard to keep track of all of them, I find it better to not assume someone’s trying to be racist and let them prove it. Anyways I get what you’re saying.

One: youre assuming. Thats not his fault.

Two: leta put it back on topic.

Is melo coming to portland?!

Futile. It’s post Summer League and before training camp. It’s like the Dark Ages of RipCityTwo. The Renaissance will come in October.

How about you try asking his/her intent for using the avatar before going ballistic. After all, that is the prudent, peaceful, responsible thing to do.

I already mentioned to him a month ago. No reply. And i'm supposed to give the guy with the alt-right avatar who ignored me once before the benefit of the doubt?

I went back and re-read it so i don’t put my foot too far down my throat I can’t get it out, and to be fair he did mention he has told him before. Now I have no idea the contents of that conversation, but it’s plausible they have discussed it before. Other wise I do basically agree with you.

So, you go straight to assuming. Yeah, that doesn't work for me.

You remind me of the original Twilight Zone episode, "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street."

Why do you automatically assume it's alt right? There is nothing about that avatar that's racist or antisemitic.

From the ADL
https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols/pepe-the-frog?referrer=https:/www.google.nl/

"However, because so many Pepe the Frog memes are not bigoted in nature, it is important to examine use of the meme only in context. The mere fact of posting a Pepe meme does not mean that someone is racist or white supremacist. However, if the meme itself is racist or anti-Semitic in nature, or if it appears in a context containing bigoted or offensive language or symbols, then it may have been used for hateful purposes.

In the fall of 2016, the ADL teamed with Pepe creator Matt Furie to form a #SavePepe campaign to reclaim the symbol from those who use it with hateful intentions."

I’ve had LSD with the swastika on the back of the paper...

I'm going to drop this only because this isn't the place and it seems not to be a shared viewpoint. My stance hasn't changed though: intention matters, of course, but I think it is idiotic to promote something that can even be interpreted as hateful and bigoted.

Sure. And there's a movement to reclaim Pepe. It is what is though; that frog has been commandeered by the fuckass alt-right. And I told the guy before and he still has it, so I just assume we're talking Blazers with a white supremacist, and I have no interest in that.

A symbol only holds the power you give it.
Don’t give It power and it will not have any.

And has this thread every really been on track? I thought this was the free for all thread like 10o pages ago...

Dude, There's a bunch of Pepe emotes on Discord, I'm' pretty sure that isn't a racist service, lol.

Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were only 24 years old and just entering their primes... Steph was 26 and might be the best shooter in NBA history.
And, just cuz we're saying stuff, was All-NBA 3rd Team because he can't stay on the floor for 82 games. Transcendant when he can, but...
Dame is 28...
And 1st-Team All-NBA and 4th in MVP
CJ is 27...
and in the ridiculously stacked Western Conference backcourts was deemed by many as a "snub". Steph and KlayKlay are great shooters, but look 1% down that list....
they are what they are...
Agree. Because no star-to-superstar ever made a jump at 27 to a new level. I mean, Gary Payton and Steve Nash were totally lucky. Jason Kidd and Hakeem and Rodman are sitting in the corner going FOH...

I would too if I saw Melo getting off a plane to sign with the Blazers
You'd have to dodge Quick meeting him outside Terminal C with a lumberjack shirt waiting go sport...

No it is not. WTF are you talking about? Are you really one of those people?

Its a fucking frog.

It's a hate symbol, although there have been arguments in here that it's about context. I thought this was just a known thing. Hell, when Richard Spencer get punched in the face, he is in the process of explaining what Pepe means to the alt-right (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entr...r-getting-punched_us_58862a57e4b070d8cad3e30f). He has a Pepe pin on his lapel. Regardless of the reclamation efforts of Matt Furie and regardless of people like Bones and whoever dismissing it, it means something; it symbolizes something. I think it's crazy we are even having this conversation. That fucking frog has been coopted by virtual Nazis, for fuck's sake.

This is idiotic. Who makes a stand on the side of the alt-right? Why, regardless of your viewpoint, now knowing that Pepe has this alternate meaning, would you want to sport something like that?

What kind of "those people" do you mean? Nice use of language, considering.

Can someone please explain to me why exactly Atlanta did this? Sorry but i just don't see what it was that compelled them to make all this work?

Schröder was unhappy, had 3 years left on his contract, is still being investigated for battery, and can't shoot. The Hawks had obviously moved on from him by drafting Trae Young and trading for Jeremy Lin. Melo is an expiring contract so they take a slight hit this year, clear the books for future years, get a young wing on his rookie deal, and get a 1st round pick.

No. Versions of it has been USED as a hate symbol, but the frog is not a hate symbol, which is exactly what the ADL said on their site. You cited the ADL as evidence that it was a hate symbol and your own source doesn't back you up. Then you went to the old reliable which is comparing it to the swastika, which..... come on man.... the swastika is the most recognizable hate symbol because it was directly related to the murder of millions of people.

Pepe started out as a joke/meme and just because a few assholes have co-opted it and altered it doesn't make it a hate symbol. The mere site of a pepe meme doesn't mean someone is being racist. And your personal opinion on an image doesn't make something a fact.

Should the US remove the eagle from all government symbols? The Nazis also used eagles. It's a symbol of hate. Shouldn't it be removed as well?

Deleted yours, deleted HCP's, Deleted Honkicracker, Deleted Gronk. Deleted Dviss'

It's not just him. You are all people too. If you had let it slide, I would have just deleted his.

Gronk is really staunch on his opinion, yes, and has he gone over the line? Yes. But so has others. It's not just him. So I am taking out all parties.

Pretty much what I'm saying is: If you don't let your emotions get the best of you, I only delete his posts if there are insults. But there are insults and baiting all over the place.

I stand by all the posts I deleted. Because it's more than one person. We are all adults here. If he just insulted over and over and everyone ignored him, then yes - we probably would have a conversation about taking out the main instigator. But now that's there has been multiple instigators/reactionaries, should we have a conversation about all of them?

Again, Gronk has been overbearing in his opinion, and I have deleted MULTIPLE of his posts when he HAS crossed the line. But, had none of you responded to him, that would have been ALL I deleted.

I understand I'm in a no-win situation here (and no, I believe banning Gronk is not the answer, because this has/is/had happened to multiple posters based on opinions) but I will tell you why I did what I did.

Now please, can we all just be peaceful and look at blurry photos together?

Why would you delete any mine?

Please tell me what I posted in this thread that was against forum rules....
