I must be the most ignorant person on the planet about racial stuff. Every time I turn around on this board I learn there is something offensive to somebody that I've either never heard of or never realized would be offensive to anybody, or why. Who the fuck is Pepe the Frog, and what's an ADL? I do know what "alt right" is (it means Trump White Supremacists and Trump Nazis), but beyond that I'm pretty clueless most of the time. Oh, well. Can't wait for the day I accidentally trigger somebody. Or maybe I just did. Le Sigh.

This thread needs to be closed, not moderated.

This is an issue that's popping up all over the web though. People who are offended by something that has been widely considered benign. So the conversation needs to happen. Does it really matter where?

And you thought this was relevant to discuss in a basketball forum on the main page? More power to you.

I didn't bring it up. I'm also not the one who originally brought up the Nazis. Just refuting someone's point.
Glad the Blazers forum could serve as your soap box. Keep it going-- maybe that will finally bring this God awful thread to a close eventually.

It is what is though; that frog has been commandeered by the fuckass Racists.

FTFY.

Calling them "alt right is a respect to their position. ;)

Totally. BUT to me it's like (not as bad! don't attack me for the comparison!) the Swastika (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika). Plenty of fine meanings, but come on. In this climate? Why the fuck?

And no way Melo is coming to Portland.

The swastika was originally from Japan. And it had nothing to do with fascism. I say this to prove your point that symbols can be perverted.

The "Pro-Life" movement started as a movement against capital punishment. It certainly doesn't stand for that now.

It's a hate symbol, although there have been arguments in here that it's about context. I thought this was just a known thing. Hell, when Richard Spencer get punched in the face, he is in the process of explaining what Pepe means to the alt-right (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entr...r-getting-punched_us_58862a57e4b070d8cad3e30f). He has a Pepe pin on his lapel. Regardless of the reclamation efforts of Matt Furie and regardless of people like Bones and whoever dismissing it, it means something; it symbolizes something. I think it's crazy we are even having this conversation. That fucking frog has been coopted by virtual Nazis, for fuck's sake.

This is idiotic. Who makes a stand on the side of the alt-right? Why, regardless of your viewpoint, now knowing that Pepe has this alternate meaning, would you want to sport something like that?

What kind of "those people" do you mean? Nice use of language, considering.
That's a really interesting article and video. Thanks for the link.

Swastika is from India.

You won't get far in here quoting huffpo. :dunno:

I thought it was a Hindu symbol of peace and like positive karma and stuff. Now that it's been co-opted by murderous racists, what was once a beautiful symbol is now completely forbidden. That's really fucked up.

Edit:

In the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, swastika means "well-being". The symbol has been used by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains for millennia and is commonly assumed to be an Indian sign.

And which of those were mine? If you can point to a time in this thread where I skirted the rules I'd like to know.

When did I type something in this thread worth deleting? :dunno:

I have no idea which posts @Strenuus deleted/removed but I know that he's a good dude and not going to abuse his mod super powers. It's not easy going into a thread and try to put out fires. Why not just move on?

Melo is not a great player anymore, but these superteams are getting ridiculous. The way to build a contender in today's NBA... Clear a ton of salary.... Attract a top 4 player in the NBA via free agency.... then just soak up all the ring chasers..... There is no real way for small market teams to compete.

I deleted more posts of his than I did yours (and left one of yours that responded to him, that could have been construed as an insult, because it's ambiguous, like the one you're referencing).

Please, next time you feel the need to think I am being unfair in how I deleted the posts, you look at the full picture of things. I'm sorry you felt if I missed an ambiguous insult, but I feel I was more than fair.

Considering I'm pretty good at attacking the post, not the poster.
@SlyPokerDog @PtldPlatypus can both attest to this.
And considering both posts I made, attack the post. Not the poster.
You can keep your feelings and just follow the forum guidelines.

As anyone thought to just ask @FlashWad to change his avatar instead of assuming it's being used for racist reasons?

Just 2 of the posts @Strenuus removed of yours:

I'm someone with more basketball knowledge than someone who believes the above.
BTW. Asking who someone is, is such a childish response.
Grow up.

Given my post count vs your post count.
How about you stop being a little child.

Not the worst personal insults I've seen but they are personal insults.

Not the worst personal insults I've seen but they are personal insults.

First one is not an insult as it says 'response.' Therefore it targets the post, not the poster.
Second one isn't any worse than his response of 'who even are you'.

If he's allowed and that post is STILL THERE. Then why is mine considered a personal insult?
If you're going to delete one, then the other should be deleted as well.
However it wasn't. Is it because he's not american and there is a language barrier? I didn't know that rule existed.
Or is it because Stren rarely moderates. So much so that in the past you've had to beg him to do something. Therefore anything he does gets your gold stamp of approval regardless.

Also, I'm pretty sure I deleted one of those. Not any of you.
But it doesn't matter, you people have already made your decision to moderate some one way based on your feelings. Yet ignore a different insult.
Cute.

Yes, you did delete one. My bad.

I try to be very objective and I know that @Strenuus and @PtldPlatypus do too. Again, we miss things. It happens. It's not because we like a person or don't like a person or because of feelings. I'm looking at what Stren did and it looks to me like he was trying to end the arguments and get the thread back on track. I also see that a thread started by B4E was deleted so I don't think he's being favorited.

I gotta go, can we all just let this go and move on to talking about how much Melo sucks?

Sorry bro. I'm not gonna get blamed for s conversation I wasn't even a part of.

I think my name was just arbitrarily brought up.

Funny thing is, if someone wants to end arguments as a mod. It would behoove them to delete and then not say anything.
Instead he decided to say things, which in turn for people following the thread. Had them go back and look at what was deleted. Then when they see insults missed. It it's logical that one insult is being allowed. Where the other isn't.
Therefore it allowed people to talk about the deleted posts for how many more additional pages?
I say 5-1 chances are no one would've known their posts got deleted if he didn't seek a gold star of approval.

Edit:

Thanks for the clarification.

That is an interesting and likely valid point. Can't speak for others, but I think I will make an effort to take this tack when deleting/editing.
