That’s not really true though. He’s averaged 3 APG for his career. That’s more than CJ, who’s a guard. It’s only recently that he’s become a black hole.

First, CJ was basically removed from the 2nd team because he is not a great setup man - so why go back to a 2nd unit with a ball stopped in it?

Anyway, the # of assists is not important, it is the ratio of AST% to USG% imho that shows ball movement and the ability to set people up

This year his ratio is 0.15

CJ who is not great, and has a very low AST% this year even compared to his own previous years - is at 0.5

ET, this year is at 1.2 which is pretty amazing - and matches the eye test, the ball moves, ET sets people up.

There is no real need for Melo on this team, even in the 2nd unit.

I never really argued that Melo has been a black hole recently. But to say he’s always been that just isn’t true. And we’re talking about a power forward/wing, not a guard. Not much different than an Aldridge.

If we end up with him, he better be pissed off at the way he's being treated and dying to show everyone he's a hall of famer.

I'd rather he goes to LA though.

What is it with the spelling these days? Is it really that tough to press CT instead of CK?

Or am i just missing a message that he really doesn't deserve Respect so they spell it Respeck. Serious question. Is this a dump on Melo?
you are old and white huh?

Not that they are similar in talent, usage, etc, but one is getting better and one is a shell of their former selves.

Layman eFG% - .670
Carmelo eFG% - .492
Even in Melo's prime, George Karl said he was not a total team player and a pain in the ass.

I for one am glad the team didn't take on Ryan Anderson. Chad Doing had a huge boner for him last year, and Anderson has fallen off the face of the earth.

5 ppg, 5.9 per, 32% from the floor and 23% from 3.

And he has this year at 19 million and next year at 15.

It's kind of like Crabbe. So glad they dumped him.

This is true. In his prime, Melo wasn't a bad passer and he even had a couple of seasons were he was up around 8 rebounds a night. The rebounding is down, and since age is the obvious culprit it is unlikely to come back. The ball stoppage problem is an attitude issue - and who knows what will fix that.

My biggest issue with Melo is that I don't believe he will ever embrace being part of the 2nd unit. At this point in his career, his ego is waaaay out of step with his talent. He might agree to go to the Lakers as a reserve - but otherwise I would bet he will only sign with a team that promises him a starting role.

You missed the oppurtunity to say Chad Dong there and pretend it was a typo.

Can’t argue with any of that. But there’s still a part of me that wants to see him not only with Stotts but Dame as well. Feel like they would empower him. But he probably thinks he’s too big time for Portland anyway. His loss.

If i remember his wife wouldn't allow him to come to Portland? Something like that?

Evidently he didn’t want to be that far from his kid, but it’s not like OKC and Houston are that close either.

It’ll be interesting to see what type of team he lands on if released.

The trickiest part about adding Melo is that you have to find minutes for him. He's currently averaging just under 30 minutes per game with Houston.

Right now here would be the guys that he would take minutes from:

Layman - 14.5 minutes per game
Aminu - 28.9 minutes per game

I also think it's crazy that he at one point shot 49% from the field. He used to be a very efficient scorer. I wonder what happened to him.

Carmelo Anthony? No thank you.

I like how this team is playing right now. Especially that second unit. It's success is based off of hustle and ball movement. Carmelo doesn't fit in the first or second unit.

If he was on the Blazers he'd probably play the 4 with the 2nd unit with Collins at the 5. So he might take some minutes from Aminu and Layman but would probably get all of the minutes Swanigan and Leonard play (not that it's a whole lot).

Curry
Stauskas
Turner
Melo
Collins

I'm not advocating for this but I think this is how it would go down if he was brought in.
