I don't think they will cut him now. Houston probably will wait until they can try to trade him for something and if that don't work then they will waive him.

Getting Carmelo would be fun and entertaing...at least for awhile. If he sucks, we can trade or bench him. But I think he would help the team.

Because that’s the way life is. Adding Melo would make more people talk about us. I think we have shot at 1 seed but 1 seed with Melo gets a lot more hype than 1 seed without Melo. Also without Melo, people write us off as a team that can’t win in playoffs. With Melo, media writers would take notice of a change.

Here's him in 1 on 1 drills. Can't remember where the actual post of his return time line was. I closed the window before I remember the source. But if they aren't 100 per cent certain they will probably just skip the next six games anyway. Layman is doing just fine.

I am willing to see what the Layman/Harkless pairing a good look. You may be right though. If he gets injured or disappears, it doesn't mean much.

I don’t see anything wrong with giving Harkless/Layman a look, but I wouldn’t pass on the opportunity to add Melo either. It’s not like we’re cutting one of those two to make room. I also don’t see anything wrong with improving not only the talent, but the depth of the team, especially when you factor in Moes knee. I’m not banking on that thing holding up.

That right there is a big part of the argument. Hark is a gamble for both his knee and his attitude. If we knew for a fact he is returning soon and will be the player he was late last season, we don't need Melo. If Hark is hurt or pouting again - the temptation to dance with the devil grows stronger.

If Dame wants Melo then I'm with it. Otherwise, nah. No reason to risk team chemistry. This team won't win a title based on Melo joining or not.

I wonder if Olshey has run this by Dame. Because if he has, I don’t see a scenario where Dame said no thanks. I think the bigger question is whether the team is willing to add to the tax they’re already paying. Since they don’t project to be repeat offenders, I think they may have the ok (something that was probably decided before Allen died)

Is there actual proof of Melo even being a chemistry killer? Seems more like a media driven narrative. The only issues Melo has ever had have been with coaches. And it’s not totally fair to put all the blame on Melo either, especially with the Hornacek incident, where he was just sticking up for his teammates. Everyone loves Stotts, so I don’t see that being a concern in Portland.

Everyone that matters on the Blazers is also pro Melo. Dame and CJ wanted him last summer, don’t see why they wouldn’t want him now. Shit, theres probably more room for him now than there was then.

I didn’t say anything about Melo, from what I can tell. But it’s still something that runs through my mind.

Talent takes you so far. Chemistry and makeup takes you that next step. Just ask my 2010 Giants.... and 2012.... and 2014.

And ask every Dodgers team for the last 6-7 years....
