I don't see the parallels, that team prior to adding Schrempf et Al was 12 minutes from winning a title.

Our current squad hasn't won a single playoff game in two years while our stars are getting neutralized due to lack of talent.

I still see a need for another scorer late in games. The bench has been good, but they’re not out there in the fourth when games are won or lost. The unit that’s out there is the same unit that was out there last year when we got spanked by the Pelicans. Teams don’t sell out to stop your best players in the regular season like they do in the playoffs, so I’d hope Olshey was smart enough to know that and not let regular season success give him a false sense of security.

Maybe Melo isn’t that guy, but we’re not a complete team.

I’m curious as to why the Rockets seem to be in such a rush to part company with Melo. Why not wait until the end of December when he could be included in a trade package? From the Blazers standpoint, it would certainly be better to swap a player rather than taking on more salary and Luxury Tax. What’s going on behind the scenes that’s so pressing that they want this done NOW?
Didn't woj hint at a possible out clause of sorts when he first came in? If it doesn't work for either side, they call it quits fast.

From the athletic not woj

"In any sense, a breakup was definitely always a possibility. Houston put itself in a low-risk, potentially solid return situation by inking Anthony to a minimum contract. There was a gentleman’s code of sorts that said if things just didn’t work out for one reason or the other, both parties could void the agreement and move on with their respective lives."

From what I’ve read they want to give more minutes to the more defensive minded Gary Clark, and are letting Melo decide whether he wants to stay with reduced minutes or go elsewhere.

Schrempf was ON the Blazers team that lost in 2000 WCF. I believe he played decently in game 7.

Strickland was the only guy we signed midsession 2001. And we went from 1 seed to 7 seed. Thing is, Strickland played well.
No it was Schrempf too, same day as Rod. Schrempf had retired the previous summer and Whitsitt talked him into coming back.

You're right. Trading Jermaine for Davis, BG leaving etc etc was what changed after the wcf. Again no parallels to this current situation

The last time this team made it to the WCF, we were the Jail Blazers. I don't give a shit about image as long as we win.
That wasn’t the Jail Blazers. We became the Jail Blazers a few years later signified by the drafting of Qyntel and ZBo and the signing of Ruben Patterson.

And you DO care about image I bet if you think about it. Isn’t sports about wanting the good guys to win?

I have seen many pictures of Carmelo in this thread. They are always very blurry, never at rest. I think Carmelo's problems are due to too much coffee, Maybe less coffee, less buzz, better scoring and ability to see the guys he needs defending.

Luckily Dame drinks like a fish - if Melo takes after him, the wine will calm him down and he will increase his productivity as a player.

Feels a lot like when we added Detlef Shrempf. It looked good on paper, but didn't work out so hot in the real world. If we signed him, I'd be really curious to see him play. But if you are on a bad run since 2014, you aren't on a bad run. You suck.
Carmelo Anthony was an All Star one calendar year ago.

"The Rockets had a net rating of -9.0 with Carmelo Anthony on the court and +1.8 with him on the bench. That's 11 points per 100 possessions worse with him on the floor, the worst net rating in the NBA of any player to have played more than 100 minutes." ~CBS Sports https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/...uttering-defense-among-seasons-top-surprises/
I think you have to look at the crappy players on Houston’s bench that he was playing with. Plus, that stat is for like 10 games. Small sample size. Same sample says he’s the best post player in the NBA. We could def use that on our second unit.

While I was driving Uber last night, one guy said he’d start getting more interested in the team if we added Melo. I def think we’d gain fan interest and national media interest but signing Melo.

I'm going to see if Melo wants to be a mod. Then he would still be involved in the NBA and if the Blazers have a serious injury I could trade him to the team for some swag.
I could consider your offer, as long as I'm in the mod starting lineup, and am guaranteed a high volume of post edits. Of course, RealGM is also in line for my services, so I need to be assured of a significant role.

I'll let you ban two people a month. Deal?

Well lets be intellectually honest about this, he was in the east, he was a late addition to the roster. He was averaging 23 and 6, so his numbers were alright. So yes he isnt that far removed from being a good player, or at least an alright player. However his play has plummeted since then, and he’s not young anymore it seems like quite a stretch to expect his numbers to go back to 2016-2017.

I believe the only reason to go after him would be if Dame wants him. For the first time in what feels like forever the bench is playing well, Id be hesistant to screw that up. Do they need an infusion of talent to compete with GS? Probably. Is Melo the right guy? I have a lot of doubts on that...

It wasn't Stricklands fault. Damon's pouting and generally imature behavior was at the root of it. I wish the team had dumped him then and there.

I understand that, but there's no reason that they have to waive Melo right now in order for that to happen. Tell him that he'll be traded as soon as possible after December 15th and until then, enjoy his vacation. Just because he's on the roster doesn't mean the coach has to play him.

"Gentleman's code"? Since when are there gentlemen when it comes to NBA dealings?

That team was infinitely more talented than the one we have now. You could have built two playoff caliber starting lineups out of that roster.
