Not really though. Then Payton got one too? possibly the best PG defender of all time?

Neither of them got it in my opinion.

They both did. They got a last goodbye year. It didn't work out well, but they got it.

We shall have to agree to disagree. Payton moved on to Miami and continued playing.
I don't recall Malone getting ovations his last year at opponents stadiums? But I don't remember him NOT getting them either... lol.

I could not be remembering it well, but I pretty much just remember Kobe / Shaq fighting all year, I don't remember a lot about Payton / Malone's time in LA. I sure don't remember it being treated like a farewell tour type of thing, but maybe that's just my memory not working.

You guys think if Carmelo signs with a team for a last year people will give standing ovations and cheer him everywhere he goes. Probably not.

Malone got hurt in the playoffs and retired. It might not have been his last year otherwise.

Melo needs to do what Jabar did....make bad comedy movies or good ones like airplane....my guess....he'll end up in Charlotte or the Knicks again

506 pages and still going! Dude hasn't played a solid game in two years and he still just keeps going in this thread. Wish there was a way to tag him to it so he could read this?

Thought I read earlier that somebody didn’t think he would go to the hall of fame.
I said, He hardly deserves it. I get that the Basketball HoF is not just for NBA accomplishments and that he will get in there because he was on teams that would have succeeded with or without him (that's not a knock on him, those teams had way more talent then the teams they played though). Off the top of my head though I don't know if we would have him in the top 25-30 players of the last 20 years, and like I said only two fan bases have any reason to really care about him, why does he need a farewell tour? He was not in the greatest of the greats even in his generation.

I took Dame's tweet as simply saying he deserves to still be playing in the NBA this year, not that he needs to get a gift and applause from every city one last time.

How many players go in the Hall of Fame each year? Usually at least 3 right, for the normal voting process? I know there are also international, contributors, and other selections as well. So basically if you're taking the last 20 years you're saying that Melo wasn't among the top-60 or so players of that time? I get that Melo has a lot of faults but c'mon there was a couple year period where he was the best pure scorer in the NBA.

Sure and I bet there are teams that Melo could still contribute on. Dame did say his farewell tour I believe.

He won the Scoring Title once. Again never said that prime Melo was a bad player. I said he was good, but I just don't see him as even relatively close to Dwade, Shaq, Kobe, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant, Lebron, Steph Curry, etc. I also said that Carmelo will get into the HoF because of his international resume. Just the whole parading around the NBA for a year doing jersey swaps, and the whole "farewell" tour stuff that's gone on the for certain guys, I don't really put him in the group that I feel has had a significant enough impact on the NBA.

I got your back. He's not even close to worthy of the hall of fame. Theres no argument really.

Actually it just kind of solidifies mine. Sounds like Anthony could get a spot on a roster if he would take the position as a backup player. Great players know when to compete and when to step back and wait for the right time. Sounds like Carmelo Anthony has never learned that. He should just retire and let it be then. He's rich and has everything he needs. Seems like that is what is most important to him.

Melo did accept a bench role on the Rockets and was playing pretty well when they cut him.

LMAO, this is such a ridiculous take @Strenuus.

It is the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA. Melo has an NCAA title and multiple gold medals plus he is in the top-20 all-time in NBA scoring.

He's a lock for the HOF.
