Poor defensive players? Whiteside? Hood? They still have Nurk. Collins is a good defender.
Not disagreeing with you at all about Melo though. 10-12 mins at most.

Tolliver, Gasol, Hezonja are all poor defenders. Whiteside rates poorly in many defensive metrics but he does have potential to be a big benefit, we will see.

Hood Collins Nurk were already on the team. Nurk may provide zero benefit or even be a negative this year. Collins is already hurt. Hood is better on offense than D. Simon's will likely struggle greatly on that side.

Aminu and Harkless are being greatly overlooked for their critical defensive contributions. I agree they weren't a good starting forward playoff duo; but we may have a massive hole in that role.

Disagree again on Gasol. His numbers on defense are better than Aminu and his defensive rebounding percentages are better also. Now the fact that he is older will contribute. Then you say Hood is better on offense than defense but everything we just watched in the playoffs says he does very well on the defensive end. Being able to score does not take away from that? Collins will be fine by the time the season starts. Whiteside is averaging way over 2 blocks a game and has a DBPM of 3.0 which is comparable to Nurk at 3.6 but really i hate defensive stats. Honestly to say Whiteside "rates poorly in many" would be cherry picking. The dude is a monster rim protector.
Now as far as Hezonja goes? Not even sure what he does on defense? Kind of like he waits for the game to go back on offense? Ha Ha Ha!
