LMAO, this is such a ridiculous take @Strenuus.

It is the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA. Melo has an NCAA title and multiple gold medals plus he is in the top-20 all-time in NBA scoring.

He's a lock for the HOF.

Nope. Not good enough. Never will be.

Like I said, no argument.

Melo did accept a bench role on the Rockets and was playing pretty well when they cut him.
I'm wondering if that is why they cut him? He may have been playing in a backup role but was he happy about it? Doesn't make sense to cut someone who is happy and producing after 13 games? But i don't remember the situation exactly because i don't follow the Rockets as well? The way it reads to me is he was just a bad fit and the Rockets were adamant that he was accepting his role. Now on the flip side. The Rockets are not going to say he was not accepting his role if they wanted anything for him and were trying to get something in exchange. As it turns out they never got much anyway right? Just seems to me a guy averaging 29 mins with 13-5 while Harden and Paul are on the court could have found a spot if something wasn't up?

From what I heard, Melo and D'Antoni didn't get along in NYC.....maybe that carried over?

Rockets got off to a bad start so they blamed Melo but they still continued to suck without Melo for awhile before turning it around.

I can’t argue against that. Paul was dealing with a suspension from the Lakers thing and Harden was in a slump. The mix was bad from the beginning. Melo might have been the fall guy that Diantoni was looking for.

I know I'm on an island here and I know Olshey said we were sticking with 14 players for now, but I think Melo could help this team.

I agree. Getting him as a 12 minutes a game off the bench scorer would be fantastic.

FWIW - he is now live on first take with SAS.

My favorite Melo stats playing in Hou.

Melo averaged one assist per hour.

Rockets were allowing 10.1 more points per 100 possessions with Melo on the court.

40.5% FG (same as OKC stats)
32.8% 3P%
68.2% FT%
Last thing to leave an older player is his
shooting. Melo is done.

Melo was getting bad while still with NY.
The OKC experiment failed.
Melo was toast in Hou.

That's the problem. He's not gonna accept coming off the bench for 12 minutes per game. No one in their right mind would take Tolliver over Melo as a basketball player in a vaccuum, but even in this interview, he said how coming off the bench was such a ego hit. But he was still playing 29 mpg in his ten games at Houston. I can't imagine how he would react to getting a third of those minutes while backing up Zach/Mario.

Thanks NAS, Thats all it was, a sound bite from the above interview.

We loaded up on poor defensive players.

Our offense will be awesome.

I wouldn't want Melo even if he accepted 12mpg role. I doubt he would be happy with that though.
Poor defensive players? Whiteside? Hood? They still have Nurk. Collins is a good defender.
Not disagreeing with you at all about Melo though. 10-12 mins at most.
