If so then he's an idiot and should be fired immediately before he can misuse team assets.

I'm really hoping I'm wrong. The Knicks have some veteran players that I wouldn't mind acquiring, and they should probably be going with their youth, but the trade seems to be much too simple to include a lot of pieces.

Or... Maybe he's throwing Butters in as a monkey wrench in the works? If he does NB's trade, I will be pissed. Not sure if I'll be in the fire him camp, but I won't be happy with NO.

I would love to know what NY is demanding. If they are unwilling to take Meyers, who are they trying to get?

This is probably the kind of trade that they want

Cavaliers would be thrilled to get Ryan Anderson, while they still have Kevin Love, and Meyers Leonard in exchange for their only center and Frye.

If he uses Harkless to dump Meyers I'll be firmly in the FIRE OLSHEY camp. That's an egregious misuse of assets. Meyers' contract is only $10M/year - that's not an anchor by any means. We were willing to pay Ezeli $10M a year for nothing, so why not with Meyers - at least he's capable of giving you 6 fouls and maybe a 3-pointer or two every now and then. And at some point his contract will be great trade ballast for an unbalanced trade. Using our best SF to get rid of a player who really isn't a detriment to the team is utterly stupid.

Meyers could be a dominant center in the East. :smiley-bonk:

Which is why he almost certainly will not do it. NO did probably overpay to keep and get some assets to help strengthen his options in trades. But, I haven't seen him do anything truly stupid in the trade market and I still have not heard anyone from Paul's circle say that he is willing to make the team worse just to save some coin.

I don't think the Knicks putting it on hold while deep in negotiations for a new GM is that surprising. If I were the incoming GM I'd want to appraise things for a day or 2 before getting anything going.
It's unlikely that Melo stays in New York either way. I don't think that's necessarily why the new GM put it on hold.

Certainly he wants to talk to Melo himself and see if he wants to stay. But the biggest reason for the new GM to put the deal on hold, is to determine what he wants back in return. He has the right and the obligation to broker his own deal to build his own team.

Hopefully, he thinks Meyers and Aminu and Turner are GREAT!!

Agreed. Especially since HE signed him to that bullshit deal. However, I think he can learn from his mistakes. I don't know of an immediate replacement that can do better...

Haha! That's the trade I'd rather make. Although I'd rather send out Crabbe.

Evidently the parameters of the deal are done. My guess is the knicks wanted to put it on hold to make it seem like Perry had a say in it. I'd be surprised if it wasn't finalized after the weekend or some similar timeline.

So far I've mostly been okay with his trades and his drafts. His free agent targets have been AWFUL. If he started making bad trades, that would be the end of it for me.

But how does that give us enough cap to re-sign Nurk? Swapping RA's contract with Crabbe's still doesn't help us in that area.

We don't need cap to sign Nurk. I think the reality is that we're going to be in salary cap purgatory for the next few years.

If I was Neil I wouldn't get back into it when they want to start back up on this trade. Neil already gave his pieces and they don't want that tell then don't call me. This team will be alright if we just stand fast. But what it looks like other teams don't want Anderson contract and other teams don't want Leonard. So until the pieces change in this trade Anthony will stay a Knick.

I don't agree with you here. In Stotts system Hibbert IMO would have done well. Hawes too. And we all know he wasn't really targeting Parsons.

Also, by leaking that they wanted to see if Carmelo would consider staying or expanding his list of teams he'd accept a trade to, they make it easier to explain why the return they got was less than favorable. "Our hands were tied. He wanted out, and to a specific team, not our fault, etc etc."

That's a good point. Make Melo the bad guy.

This. He needs to just find a team that would take Butters. IMO Aminu, Davis, and Crabbe are all moveable.

Yup. The hindsight on Hibbert is annoying as hell. He was an excellent player for the first couple years of that contract, and then something happened. The rumor was that Paul George slept with his girlfriend. Whatever it was, Hibbert just stopped trying.

Or the new Knicks GM is telling Carmelo: "I know you want to go to the Rockets or Cavs, but they've got nobody to trade that anybody wants. I mean, c'mon, do you really think someone's going to take Ryan Frickin' Anderson's albatross of a contract just to help you move to Houston? I've got an offer on the table from Portland that I can live with so it's your choice: play in Portland with Lillard, McCollum, and Nurkic or play out your contract in a Knicks uniform."

It totally fucked him up but he needed to get over that shit. NEVER let a woman get between you and your bread...
Besides... She's cute but looks like 50 other random white girls with flat butts. You're a millionaire! Go get some!!
