There is a Press Conference at 2pm in New York. I haven't seen the topic but it probably is the new GM presentation. Could be interesting.

It's actually pretty smart what the Knicks are doing, they're making him look like the bad guy to their fans because he'd be making them take a shit deal to go to Houston when they could get a better deal from us plus a lot of other teams probably.

Also smart what Oshey's doing. He has stars who want vet help. So, he leaked our offer for PG, so fans and stars would "know" he tried hard to get it done. Now, he's doing the same with Carmelo....

The Rockets have nothing to offer. I hope we can keep them from getting him so they have to wait a year to find out that the experiment will fail, and by then they'll have to use cap space to sign him to a big contract.

Holding onto a disgruntled veteran when you're rebuilding isn't very smart, especially when you have an opportunity to add a young player or two and not lose him for nothing.

They don't have that opportunity with Houston. My comments regarded a situation where Anthony didn't expand the number of teams he'd go to. If it's Rockets or nothing, I could definitely see New York choosing nothing--I think that would be rational.

So, to summarize the various positions:

1. New York is looking to rebuild and would like to move Carmelo's contract for young players with upside and draft picks.
2. Carmelo is willing to waive his no-trade clause to go to Houston or Cleveland.
3. Houston's only got Ryan Anderson's albatross of a contract to offer in trade, which doesn't fit what NY wants at all.
4. Cleveland only has Love to offer in trade, but if they were willing to trade Love this deal would have happened a long time ago.
5. Portland would like to upgrade its roster with a talented veteran, but has zero interest in helping Houston improve by taking Anderson.
6. New York has a new GM, who they're going to introduce today at a press conference, who is going to get down on his knees and beg Carmelo to expand his list of possible trade destinations.
7. NBA forums like this one are going ape shit with trade scenarios that could potentially bag Carmelo.

Does that pretty much cover 3,000 plus posts?

So, isn't that a whole lot of hoopla for a guy who is well past his prime and has never lead a team anywhere in the playoffs?

Knicks would be dumb to not try and get something in return for Melo...they've blown it up already and need young talent moving forward

Yes, except that most teams that are willing to offer a young player also insist on tying it to a bloated contract. The young player may not be worth taking on the contract.

he said Houston or Cleveland....as training camp approaches, he could change his mind.

Pretty sure he got to the WCF with the Nuggets.

2008-2009 and lost to the Lakers.

He dominated the Olympics last year....I'd say he's pretty far from past his prime....he needs a team like the Blazers to get back on track...the Knicks were a shitstorm with 5 coaches and 4 GMs since he's been there....that's not all on him

The problem is he has a no trade clause. If he's only willing to waive the trade clause to go to HOU, they are actually better off keeping him for a year and letting him walk for nothing than taking back Ryan Anderson. A 29-year old, injury prone, 1-dimensional player making > $20 million a year for the next three years is worth less than nothing to a rebuilding team.

If Carmelo stays and becomes a distraction, they can always try to negotiate a buy out and then waive him. That would be less detrimental to their rebuilding effort than taking on Anderson's contract for the next three years. Sometimes nothing is better than something - especially if that something sucks.

Yeah, Cleveland was originally an option but he seems locked into Houston now (a Woj article said that he expects New York to follow through on the Rockets deal). But even if we include Cleveland, they also have no assets for a rebuilding team, so they're basically in the same situation as the Rockets.

You missed the most important one:

8. Portland landing Anthony would piss Houston fans off to such a degree that they might quit following basketball permanently

Texas is all about football anyway..why they need 3 NBA teams never made sense to me....send the Mavs to Seattle!!!

You're right. I forgot that the Nuggets advanced that far that year. According to Wikipedia, that was the first time that they won a playoff series since 1994, and was the team's first (and only) conference final since 1985.

Yeah but I don't think a straight trade with Houston is even an option. They'd never take Anderson back. I think the options are expand the list, or stay in New York.

Prolly to announce their GM signing and the Tim Hardaway Jr deals.

I thought Larry Bud Melman was dead.
Neils body language says that he's going after Melo hard.

Right when dwight asked about melo, Neil's face stayed the same but he nervously went to his tippy toes a few times.

Then he started looking away, and laughing a little bit, while making hand gestures.

4 things that I didn't notice during the rest of the interview.

This post now featured on Clutchfans. They haven't disputed it, just called it a "gem."

Guys, you can always become Trail Blazers fans if you feel that strongly about such a transcendent superstar as Melo.
