Mills:
"Commited to rebuild a team around young players."
"Veterans will still be important. Veterans will teach theam how to be NBA players on and off the court."
"Focus is on youth, athleticism and defense."

Hornacek:
"Defense first. Not going to outscore opponents."
"Mentality to get a stop. Develop that mentality "That guy has the ball and not gonna score on me"."
"A good offense starts with a better defense."

The Q&A starts.
Mills.
"In contact with Carmelo and others teams. Look at something that works for Carmelo and for us. But Carmelo can be a part of our team next year."

Well, if SwissBlazer is 17 or so, perhaps you are his father.

I'm not old enough to be his father. It would suck bad to have to pay child support in Swiss Francs, it was friggin' expensive there.

Neils body language says that he's going after Melo hard.

Right when dwight asked about melo, Neil's face stayed the same but he nervously went to his tippy toes a few times.

Then he started looking away, and laughing a little bit, while making hand gestures.

4 things that I didn't notice during the rest of the interview.

it's pretty easy to tell when Olshey is deflecting, because he almost always tries to make some sort of joke while changing the subject.

Maybe that is why the Knicks have sucked for so long.... They aren't trying to outscore opponents. Don't they know the team with the highest score wins the game?

Yeah thats a pretty shitty philosophy for a professional basketball team.

Why should he just say yeah we are going after Melo. Why not showcase the confidence. That's how you get star basketball players to come to your city.

I understand not divulging information about prospective deals, keeping certain info internal within the organization. But, to say yeah we are going after him, what does that hurt or hinder?

barfo only sleeps with super models. We established that back when Karl Malone signed with the Lakers.

I like that with Olshey it's always just before it happens that you get the info...he doesn't want to play anything out in the media until it's done

Because then when Melo is asked about it and quoted as saying "no way I'd ever consider Portland, it's a hell-hole", it makes for bad PR.

Ok so I went through literally every team in the NBA to see who could (and would/should) make an offer for Melo. I came away with TWO teams outside of Portland. Charlotte and Utah. That's it. And the two "prizes" they'd offer would be Michael Kidd gilchrist and Dante exum. Even so, both of those teams would struggle to match salaries. They'd have to get the Knicks to take on multiple garbage contracts, while with Portland they'd only have to take on Leonard. Also if you look at the Knicks roster, their biggest need is at SF. Harkless is a prime candidate.

This is going to come down to Portland or staying in New York imo.

the blazers are evidence to the contrary but ok

Why its true that defense allows more oppurtunities offensively, its not going to neccesarly mean a good offense will come of it or start from it. Either a team is offensively talanted or not.

I agree we can make the best offer for melo but just cause you make the best offer doesnt mean they pick you just ask Kevin Prichard.

Because it's illegal to talk about a player under contract with another team?

Meh, that's a lot of hearsay. Who knows what actually happened. Both Ainge and Olshey had reason to leak their "better" offers. Ainge has been accused of it in the past.

Ok great where is Melo saying he hates portland?

I didn't say that he had. I was suggesting that it was one possible outcome if Neil said publicly that he wanted Melo.
