Here's a question that's maybe deserving of it's own thread...but then there're more than enough Melo threads around here:

If the Blazers were able to acquire Carmelo from the Knicks, who would be the more valuable aging star Blazers acquisition, Carmelo Anthony or Scottie Pippen?

Pippen was a 34 years old seven time All-Star who was acquired in 1999 for a package of Stacey Augmon, Kelvin Cato, Ed Gray, Carlos Rogers, Brian Shaw and Walt Williams.

Carmelo is 33 years old. He's been an All-Star ten times.
Pippen. No contest. It could be argued Pippen was the conductor of that team, despite the hindrance that was $amon Stoudamire, and was still a defensive force. Conversely, Melo would be a no defense ball stopper.

Even though I'll concede Melo is still a very good player and a star in the league, the thought of trading for Melo kind of depresses me.

My summer wish list: Paul George absolutely, yes, please, I'm begging you. Jimmy Butler yes, please. Kevin Love, sure. Carmelo Anthony...yeah, I guess if we have to....

Odd that you call the person who was right from day 1 unreasonable

I find it more unreasonable to think he'll be better
Even unreasonable people are right sometimes. You weren't right about him being bad because he's a WABC, it's because of his mindset.

If someone during the year 2000 said Trump would be a future president, they would be being unreasonable, even though they miraculously would be correct.

A bit different since I have history on my side

Misleading. While The Simpsons predicted President Trump in a 2000 episode where they look into the future and Lisa has become his successor in the White House, those images come after Trump made his real entrance down the escalator.
I know--just have a little fun, man.

@Boob-No-More has already disproved your notion that WABCs are more prone to become a bust than centers of other races and nationalities with stats. However, you ignored his post, and continue this ignorant rhetoric. Every post that is well-thought out that shows your negative opinions to be ridiculous, you ignore. Then, you continue the same bullshit, negative opinion bullshit.

Which leads me to think that you simply like thinking this way. Because good posts that use much more information than you would ever gather go ignored by you in favor of your continued ignorant opinions.

Crabbe, even if he isn't shooting, will still be guarded on the perimeter because he shot 44% from 3 last season, so the defense won't help off of him, giving Dame/CJ/Melo/Nurk all more room to operate. You also cannot cheat off of Dame, CJ, Melo for obvious reasons, and Nurk is in the post. That is a LOT of spacing. And if they did cheat off of Crabbe, I'm sure he would actually shoot - given that the one time he does shoot is when he is wide open. Also, Crabbe + Nurk played pretty well together...

Swanigan is closest, in my opinion, to making me change that opinion. I'm not sold on Vonleh much more than I am Meyers. And I'd rather have shooting than Vonleh. Vonleh doesn't make the game easier for everyone on offense or defense... where he still struggles. He is like a slightly smarter BBIQ wise Meyers..too much thinking

You're only thinking about one side of the ball. Also, you forget the need for a slasher. You can't have all jump shooters in the lineup. Crabbe should not start. We'd be a disaster defensively.

You must be the one out of ten people who actually know.

Cleveland players going somewhat public with being disgruntled with the FO might push them to trade Love for Melo, which we would facilitate and land Love. That's honestly the best case scenario for all three teams imo.... and then we should call DET and offer a pick, Vonleh, Aminu, and an expiring Connaughton for Tobias Harris. I dont think anyone on detroits roster is off limits for the right price. Last move would be adding Tony Allen for the MLE or whatever it is we have left. That would be my ideal reasonable offseason.

Pippen, and it's not even a discussion.

I'll take the six time champ

ESPN put out an update from Woj this morning saying Melo won't come to POR.

That's it.

That's not an update. That article is quoting the article about Melo on Monday. Dame talked to Melo yesterday. ESPN is a joke.

I've never said they are more prone. Just that they suck

Time would tell. If Melo could take us to a title (yes, I know, it seems impossible), then clearly the answer would be yes. Let's not forget that Pippen joined a team that had been in the previous season's Western Conference Finals, and then took the team to the Western Conference Finals. He was good, but he disappeared just like the rest in the 4th quarter.

Full stop.

To be fair, he was playing with injured fingers on his shooting hand in that game.

Here's a question that's certainly deserving of it's own thread...but then there are more than enough Melo threads around here:

If the Blazers were able to acquire Carmelo from the Knicks, would we all of a sudden garner respect from the media and NBA officials for having a bona-fide superstar on our team???

This probably wouldn't work, but I was thinking this might be the best (or only) reason to do the deal. It feels like we would gain some respect and some air time that could improve the impression of the team and area.

Although, I would say right now that all the churning going on with Melo is doing more damage than anything else.

Yes. But then the media would have a field day shitting on Portland when Melo opts out of his contract next summer.

They'd be making about the same money.

Hmm...played with it a bit, and this actually isn't terrible. NY gets the SF they want to replace Melo, and simply swaps one overpaid SG for another (younger) one. CHI gets a SG replacement for Wade, and gets a couple young prospects and an expiring PF for their trouble. And we really don't give up anything of massive value, except perhaps Harkless, whom most say needs to be upgraded anyway.

Granted, CHI could probably get a better return than this for Wade, but I don't think it's too far off.

If we could somehow get Lee and give Chicago Turner, that'd be great. Or keep Crabbe. Turner would be a bad fit with Wade, and we'd have 4 ball handling wings without ET.
