Kinda tough when you see teams getting better when your gym believes in a mentally unfit 7 footer and put all his chips on crabbe and turner only to give crabbe away for nothing and keep an overpaid turner. We added two rookies. Great, talk to me in a few years when dame and cj' contracts are up and this team still can't get shit

Yup. This offseason was a flat bust.

The whole thing puts me in mind of a tune by Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys.....

Big Balls In Cowtown

Workin' on the railroad
Sleepin' on the ground
Eatin' saltine crackers
Ten cents a pound
Big Ball's in Cowtown
We'll all go down
Big Ball's in Cowtown
We'll dance around
(Ehhhh, come in momma, the hog's done got me)
I'll go to Cowtown
I'll dance around
Board up your windows
The big boy's in town
Big Ball's in Cowtown
We'll all go down
Big Ball's in Cowtown
We'll dance around
Put on your new shoes
Put on your gown
Shake off them sad blues
The Big Ball's in town
Big Ball's in Cowtown
We'll all go down
Big Ball's in Cowtown
We'll dance around
(Come on Ricky, fiddle down)
Everybody's smilin'
You can't find a frown
(Ah)
The girls are all happy
'Cause the Big Ball's in town
(That's right)
Big Ball's in Cowtown
We'll all go down
Big Ball's in Cowtown
Yeah, yeah Big Ball's in town

People telling others to calm down. Yeah I understand the pg trade and melo trade was out of Neil's hands but I just saw a division rival grab both, Denver snagged milsap, etc. our best use of cap space last season fucked us and it was admitted by giving crabbe up for nothing. Neil got lucky with nurkic, let's be real. It was a gamble that paid off. We are wasting dame and cj's best years. Kicking the ball out to 30 percent three point shooters, guys that look lost. Traded up in the draft for Collins who is young and a prospect but doesn't look promising to me. Got lucky with swanigan. Yet we are supposed to believe in a new Meyers. I'm a blazer fan for life but fuck I'm not gonna be dumb about what I'm seeing. Everybody in the west getting better and we just stay in the same place

It's hard to get fair value when a player has control over his options.

True, but I think if Perry had held out one, maybe two more days, Melo would have expanded his list to include POR. By expanding his list to include CLE, Melo made it clear he wanted out of New York before the start of training camp. If Perry had gone back to him and said CLE and OKC don't have the asstes to get the deal done, I think we were next on his list. Guess we'll never know...

Please don't drive or handle any sharp implements today.

My sources are telling me that this was all a ploy by the Blazers. CJ has become a basketball succubus. He played up to Melo to get close to him and steal his basketball skills. CJ will be an all star this year, Melo will be a shell of his former self.

Oh so you don't agree? Let me guess, nurk is the second coming of Jesus Christ? Okay dope thanks for your input

Look at our division for a second. What did they all do this offseason? Get better. Way better. Okc, wolves, Denver. Not to worry though, I'm sure Meyers Leonard will be an all star...

Went pretty much as I expected. Stupid deal for NYK but what ya gonna do?

The Blazers will be MUCH better this year. A healthy Nurk for a full year and adding Biggie and Collins will see to that.

People are still using the word "luck" huh? Right. Olshey is a fucking idiot for his mistakes and lucky for his hits. Fuck outta here with that shit it's so dumb

Says you. Based off nurks contract year and what? Two unproven rookies? I hope you remember harkless and aminu, Davis all regressed last season. Turner was ehhhh

The problem is, even tho Blazers will be better this year, their improvements will be less than other teams in the West... especially their division... which leaves us in the same spot, battling for 5-8 seed during Dame’s prime

Weird how things work out, Olshey max offers Kanter to fuck OKC's cap and that fucking turns into Melo.
We gave olshey an extension so then he can turn around and give Meyers Leonard 2.0 in Zach Collins an extension for an absurd contract. Remember this shit.

That's what I'm saying but everybody just blindly sits here and acts like there is no issue. Our fucking division is stacked and no I don't think anybody is beating the warriors still but for fucks sake at least set up for a run here in the next couple years, this shits looking dark

Think blazer thoughts bro. We shall overcome!

"Everybody in the West" is also getting older. Melo is 33. Millsap and CP3 are both 32. All these teams are fighting it out to see who comes in second to GSW. They will be paying huge luxury tax bills and have traded away young players and draft picks to win now at a time when winning it all is nearly impossible for anyone other than GSW.

Yeah, it would have been fun to be one of the teams in the hunt for second place in the West, but from a practical stand point, based on our current roster, our best chance to actually compete for a title is still 3-5 years out when Dame and C.J. are in their late primes, Nurk is in the heart of his prime and young guys like Swanigan and Collins are both just starting to enter their primes.

Getting Nurk at 22 gave us a legitimate third member of our Big 3, it also expanded our window of competitiveness to peak after GSW (and the rest of the current top teams) have started to decline. Drafting Collins and Swanigan further expanded that window.

Yep, adding Carmelo would have been fun, but long term, we are no worse off today than we were yesterday. I know it's hard to be patient, I want to win now too, but in the big picture, even with Carmelo Anthony we weren't getting past GSW this year, or next.

On the bright side, we have been the youngest team to make the playoffs each of the last two years and by adding Collins and Swanigan got even younger. Look at this year as a development year for Nurkic and the rest of our young people.

It would be fun to win more games now, but this team will still be competitive, likely make the playoffs, and if Nurk is healthy and playing as well, or better, than he did last March, could potentially pull off a first round upset.

Cheering for an underdog can be fun, especially knowing that our young team will continue to get better while all the other teams ahead of us will begin to decline.

I loved beating HOU in the playoffs four years ago and beating LAC two years ago. We were the underdog both times. I look forward to seeing who our victim will be this year. All these off season moves just make me hate teams like OKC and HOU even more, which makes it extra sweet when we beat them.

Right and I get that. I know we aren't winning now. My issue is our role players. As much as stouts wants them to fit, they just don't. Aminu and harkless can't hit threes consistently at all. They are inconsistent themselves. Turner does a lot of things but that contract is still so bad. Then we have all these bigs, yeah obviously I wanna see if Collins and swanigan will be good in the league but what about guys like vonleh who haven't done much with the minutes he has got. Meyers of course. There isn't much to work with to bring talent in the future because nobody wants these guys and we aren't gonna tank so there are no lottery picks coming next year. Feels like we are stuck in mediocrity. Not to mention we will dish out a huge amount to nurk if he does what I think he will this season. I just don't believe we have the right role players around our three.

I'm confused. If the only two trades that would have helped us were out of Neil's hands despite his efforts... what's there to be mad about? We can't control what other people do, so you just have to deal with it. No point in being mad if you understand that.

Harkless didn't regress. He improved. His improvement was incremental, but he had his best season shooting the ball.

Davis and Aminu were both injured.

Nope. I just never thought he'd end up here anyway. It's too damned far from his son.
