Unfortunately, Dame entered the league a bit too old to reach that high on the all time point list
Yeah--he would basically need 5 more injury-free 25ppg seasons after this one to end up in Melo's neighborhood.

More interesting to me is whether or not Lebron catches Kareem. Only 3500 away. Assuming he plays 2 more (relatively healthy) years after this one, he should be a lock.

That countdown will easily be the biggest story of the 22-23 season.

Unfortunately when we constantly feed the ball to a washed up player with Melo's level of inefficiency so he can iso and mostly settle for challenged mid-range turn around jumpers. We are most definitely catering to him. Under a different coach, Melo might be useful and his climb up the all-time scoring leader board would be great to watch but we don't live in that reality so his time on the court is painful to watch and detrimental to the team.

take a look at 2020 Comparisons to say, La Marcus Aldridge - if Carmelo is “washed up” then I’d say 20% of the league must be. Shoot, last night Melo goes for 23 with a few rebounds, assists and even 3 blocked shots! I don’t call this “washed up” I call Melo pretty damn good.

I will admit that he shoots 75% of the time he touches the ball, but he scores. Previously I was saying we need to start Melo, but I see his value off the bench.

points/FGA:

Dame - 1.484
Kanter - 1.397
CJ - 1.335
Blazer team - 1.238 (1.26 last season)
Jones - 1.234
Nurkic - 1.146
Trent - 1.143
Simons - 1.13
Melo - 1.127
Giles - 1.038
RoCo - 1.00
Hood - 0.882

Little - 1.55
Elleby - 1.44

Melo isn't the worst shooting option on the team, but he's well below the team average. Melo is only in the 50th percentile in isolation scoring/efficiency. Unfortunately, he's only in the 30th percentile in spot-up, and 18th percentile in PnR. So he's a pick-your-poison shooting option

Wonder where Carmelo lives here in oregon. Not often they get a guy who has made $250M over a long career. Where does someone like that go? He’s not here for the long haul, doubt he’s buying a house. Maybe just in a hotel or condo? Anyway. Just a random Carmelo thought.

And fools on here would STILL find reasons to hate him! Ha! Even if he did it in a jersey with a pinwheel on it!

he did it in 14 seasons after entering the league when he was 22. And he did that while averaging 9.5 assists a game
But also in an era where the average pace was over 121. The average this year is just under 100. An extra 20+ possessions per game can go a long way.

yeah, that's true...and I saw enough BB from when I was young to know that defense wasn't really emphasized unless it was Wilt or Russell or Thurmond swatting away shots

another factor: Oscar averaged 42.2 minutes a game so he was on the floor for around 18 of those 20 extra possessions. In assists alone that was probably worth 1-2 more a game

of course, no stat is as insane as Wilt averaging 50.4 points in 48.5 minutes his 3rd season. Another amazing Wilt stat: is in his last 3 seasons, when he was 34-36, he played in 290 consecutive games (regular and playoff) and averaged over 44 minutes

Can you imagine what LeBron would have averaged back in Wilt's day. When SF looked like this.

Word is he's in Lake Oswego.

"Having Melo on your team is like having a spouse who makes a lot of money, but spends much more than they make."
-me, explaining Carmelo Anthony on the Blazers and his defensive woes

Tolliver/Mario/Bazemore/Nas.......NONE of them get the calls and respect Melo gets, from other players and the refs. He didn't deserve that call when he fell down at the end of the game, but got the whistle. DAME WANTS HIM ON THE FLOOR WITH HIM STRUGGLES AND ALL, NO MATTER HOW MUCH HE IS HATED ON IN HERE.

I don't disagree that Melo is deeply, heavily overrated while Tolliver/Mario/Bazemore/Nas are not.

That's cool. But I wouldn't want Dame as the team's GM, so I'm not sure his talent evaluation chops are beyond question.

Melo is our best option in a tight game does the stretch to have out there. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it.

I agree with you, in normal circumstances but in an offense for defense switch situation, I'd have him & RoCo on offense and DJ & RoCo on D.

On offense, I agree with you. He's shooting the three-pointer well, so he makes sense as a floor spacer around Lillard. In a late-game situation where a barrage of timeouts allows you to keep switching for offense and defense, I'd absolutely have Melo out there for offense.

In a situation where he has to play defense over the final, say, 5 minutes? I'm not sure what he gives you is worth what he takes away.

Did you even watch the game last night?

Andre Miller lived in a hotel room at the Residence Inn next to Waterfront park the entire time he played in Portland.

Carmelo is the same age as brandon roy. I imagine this is what we'd be getting out of roy if he had stayed healthy, and with the team.
