I absolutely hated having Carmelo on the team last year but if Neil isn't making any legacy protecting promises and Chauncey has the backbone to use him as a mentor and situational scorer... he's a good value at the vet min. I think Chauncey has the backbone to play Nas and DJJ (if they're still here) in front of Melo and only give Melo the time that makes sense and if Chauncey is dedicated to making this team strong defensively giving Melo more than situational minutes won't make sense.

I'm glad there could be a bunch of impact players trying to boost their value for next off season that we can get for a minimum contract and hope we do it. I'm not saying that I definitely want Melo back, I just won't think the sky is falling if we re-sign him... now dedicating a spot to Kanter at anything over the minimum would make me mad because if we give him more money, there will be more of a likelihood he will play plus if both return the roster starts to look far to similar to last season's.

you pretty much hit every point I was going to make. As long as Billups uses him correctly he’s a fine tool off the bench. One that will get a lot of DNP-CD’s and also some highlight vintage Melo moments. Notice I said moments not quarters.

Are we really comparing Carmelo Anthony to Dwayne Bacon, Drew Eubanks and even Harry Giles? Really?

'we' are also comparing him to Mark Gasol, Dwight Howard, Nic Batum, Jeff Green, Reggie Jackson, Cameron Payne, Monte Morris, Terrance Mann, Luguentz Dort, & Demarcus Cousins. The veteran minimum list changes every year; it isn't static. Rajon Rondo & Nerlens Noel played for the vet minimum in 2019-20

last year, Melo was 11th on the team in TS%, but was 3rd on the team in FG and usage. He was 11th winshares/48, 9th in BPM, and had a worse rebounding percentage than Elleby. He was 13th on the team in on/off at -6.4 and managed to smash that mark with a -32.1 in the playoffs. And he was horrible in clutch time

I don't see a reason to bring him back rather than try somebody else. If Melo was so good on a minimum last year, then he'd be worth more than a minimum this year. Do you think anybody would sign him for more? And if not, he would not be a loss

You kind of made my point. Melo on a minimum but not playing as a 6th man would be just fine in my book. He cannot be 3rd in field goal usage. But then again he was never supposed to be. Collins was supposed to be back. Nurk got injured again. CJ got injured. Powell was added at the trade deadline. Little was hurt off and on all season. For some reason DJJ could not figure out how to dunk a ball in a game? Never seen so many missed dunks ever. He also seemingly couldn't consistently hit a three.
Melo was what was there nightly. How many time did you read "Why is it everyone but Melo gets hurt?". I know it's been said but at times he was all the Blazers had last year. Melo and Kanter. People can complain about it but that is who was healthy and available.

Comparing Melo's rebound rate to Elleby is a stretch...one guy played only garbage minutes and the other guy played against rotation players next to Kanter who was a rebounding machine....numbers don't always tell the story

What Melo gives you is a guy who can come in off the bench and close the scoring gap so the closers can close out games....we were down in many games where Melo came in and tied up the score off the bench...that's value...defense is a team skill and until you have a unit that communicates and buys into it...everyone is an ISO player...it's way different than an individual stat from my view...defense requires 5 guys synchronized..it can be taught and I'm sure Chauncey has a handle on how to do that

As a creator of this thread and further, in consideration of Melo’s decision to join the piss and purple…

proud to have been part of this epic thread of some 613 pages - it’s been great fun.

To Melo: you’re an NBA great and unfortunately your Jersey will never hang from our rafters. Best wishes to you.

You didn't create this thread as we see it now. You did create one of the first threads on Melo and then this monstrosity was merged into it. Not to take anything from you (I know I am a hit at parties!) and I agree it should be closed.

I created the first thread, it was hijacked, then merged! Just saying…I’m a hit outside of parties

Goodbye Melo

It was nice while it lasted

I'm sorry that Covid happened and ruined your thread; which is surely the real reason you left the team.

Lets see how long LeBron want's to preserve his Legacy?

I'm betting it only goes for a bit before Melo is benched.

He might get a ring though? Who knows?
