The Top 50 players in Trail Blazers history...Hoopshype..

God that list was either really bad, or just a sign that the Blazers haven't exactly had a plethora of top notch talent.

Most of the 77 Championship players who had their numbers retired not named Walton and Lucas were done so for marketing reasons. The 1980s were pretty dim times for the organization, so they wanted to keep the title team fresh in the memories of the fans. Every couple of years they'd trot out another member and retire their number, not because they deserved it, but it got asses in seats at the MC and kept the sellout streak alive on nights when it could have been really close.

Kersey at No. 5 seems too high, as do both Damon and Bonzi. And, I know he didn't have a HUGE impact on the Blazers, but I'm surprised Drazen didn't make it. Also thought Sabas was too low.

Meh, it's just some dude's opinion, probably based on just looking at a few stats.

BNM

Tom Owens, higher than Joel Przybilla?

I thought Hoopshype had some semblance of credibility?

That's an understatement. Basically, it makes the entire list a joke if Roy isn't in the Top 5, and LMA isn't right behind him. If Mo Lucas is at #4 for 2.5 seasons of solid play, then Roy should be up there as well.

Um...Tom Owens #'s in Portland were better than Joels, so yes. He's higher.

Looking at Pippen's numbers... I thought he was better when I watched him as a Blazer, but I was only 5 when he joined and my dad brainwashed me into thinking he was some god-level player at the time lol.

That list is awful.

Kermit Washington certainly merits a higher ranking than #42.

Ruben Patterson at #40 shouldn't be on the list. Neither should Travis Outlaw or Steve Blake, even they barely make it at #47 & #48. Kenny Anderson should be on there. Sure, he underachieved in Portland, but he helped those teams a lot.

I'd put Billy Ray Bates higher than #46. Maybe swap spots with Wesley Matthews up at #38.

Steve Smith and Scottie Pippen were both better than their statistics would show as Blazers, but they weren't here long. But I'd pur them higher than #36 and #26.

And that's just the bottom half...

Kenny Anderson played for the Blazers?

I kid. He put in a solid year and a half in Portland.

Huh. Thought he was here longer than that. Was my early days following the Blazers...

I guess I come away thinking any Top 50 list that has Ruben Patterson on it, probably shouldn't go all the way to 50.

Even with just a year under his belt, Lillard should have made it way past Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw. Definitely top 20.

Don't mean to step on anyone's toes but the whole idea of the list and many of the suggestions here are really a joke without very specific criteria. What criteria is most appropriate would actually be an interesting discussion. For example, I would rank players higher if the team went to the conference finals, if they played well in the playoffs, if they played over some number of games, if they had an above average PER, ...

BTW, "Ranking based on performance and accomplishments while with the Portland Trail Blazers" doesn't count as specific criteria.
