The Trail Blazers are “actively exploring” the coaching market

They'd be stupid not to. That doesn't mean that Splitter is gone, but it means if they can find a better coach they should.

Just like if they can find a better SF, SG, PF, C and PG, they should look into it.

I hope it lights a fire under the team if they want to keep him. On the off chance we win out, Tiago’s first year record as head coach would be 44-37, which is already better than most available alternatives.

Agreed, with the point that vibe and collective character matters. To me, better must include that filter, not exclude it.

Gotta really make the coaching staff feel good prepping for these 2 big games coming up this morning in their team meeting huh?

What a fantastic way to motivate your current coaching staff going into the playoffs?
He must have turned down a contract or expressed already he's not interested in head coaching here. Tom to smart to do as you say.

The "coaching market" WTF is that? Does it include coaches who "might become" available? Because he better not be thinking of Doc Fucking Rivers
I’m sick to my stomach that I thought of Doc Rivers before I even read this.

I was thinking “Maybe he could get Doc Rivers and recruit Giannis to Portland.”

Timing is questionable, but these guys also know that you’ve got to just tune out all the noise and focus on the task at hand. Thiago has been around the league long enough that I figure he’s legitimately thinking about the rest of the season and not where he will be next year. He knows that the teams success today is ultimately what’s important for him tomorrow.

I think Thiago has a bright future as a basketball coach, and would hate to see us lose him completely.

Steve Kerr?

I’d be willing to bet that Dundon would reach out to Kerr… Isn’t Kerrs contract with GSW over after this year?

NBA champion as a player
NBA champion as a coach
Has coached the US team

Seems like the kind of guy Dundon would go after.

I do not know Kerr, but he comes across as a guy who will go back to TV after his current gig...... unless SA comes calling. But it is worth a shot.

Billy Donovan's contract is also up this summer.

With Malone out, Jenkins maybe or Budenholzer.

If we are looking at assistant coaches...Chris Quinn, Sam Cassell, Micah Nori...

Terry Stotts return with Warriors wisdom? Lol

I didn't think this was worthy of its own thread, so I am posting this here as it is coaching-related.
the 10 game stretch has been the softest part of their schedule all season. Filled with teams pretty blatantly tanking and holding players out

team's played and their offensive rating:

Brooklyn - 30th
Indiana - 28th
Minny - 13th (without Anthony Edwards and Naz Reid)
Denver - 1st
Brooklyn - 30th
Milwaukee - 25th
Dallas - 29th
Washington - 27th
Clippers - 11th (after 44 games of Harden and 43 of Zubac)
Pelicans - 21st

take away the Denver game, the Blazers had 9 games against teams with an average offensive ranking of 24th; and 6 games against teams with an average ranking of 28th.. That would super-charge any defense's numbers

My dream hire would NEVER happen but give you a hint he is coaching tonight and coached a certain big man on roster but you will never guess who it is -- LOL

However even if he was looking to leave or at least open to it his price would be 12 to 15m per year and I highly doubt that is in Tom's budget.

I question whether his personal style would fly in the NBA
