Seeing I'll be there for a week.

Probably will check out the festival of lights @ the Grotto. I'll hit up a blazer game. Lunch and dinners with friends from high school. Family crap.

Hit the town to party it up too.

What else is going on?

Actually, that all sounds pretty darn nice.

At the Hollywood theatre is a play about a 1944 WWII Christmas radio program. I saw it last year and had a good time. You may like it too.

The Pearl District is always on, Pioneer Courthouse Square to see the tree.

The Pioneer Courthouse Square tree was kind of weak. I was actually there when they were lighting it up.

Didn't know if you have kids or not.

I mean it was a really cool ceremony when they were lighting I thought it wasn't really decorated all that extravagantly. The malls here in LA have nicer trees for some reason. I thought it would be because the homeless might steal the decorations?

LOL! Only in... Nevermind.

anyone doing Santacon this weekend?

Seems like there have been multiple SantaCons this year...or splinter groups or something. There were a couple drunk Santas at Blitz Pearl last week when I played there...and there were apparently a bunch of drunk Santas at Calabash on Monday...weird...we're being overrun.

I'm over the whole ironic, hipster faux-mock christmas shit (ugly sweater, bad santa, white elephant).

I stayed at The Nines last week on a guys' weekend. Let's just say we didn't spend any time in Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Check out Departure on the 15th floor of The Nines, though. It was worth it, and being from LA, you'll appreciate it.

yeah, i was going to book a room there but the prices rose. we'll see. i usually book at the paramount down the street, its like 1/2 the price.

What about Museums?

Is the OMSI Dinosaur exhibit worth checking out?

What about the Oregon History Museum? Haven't been there since I was in kindergarten I think.

Forrestry Center?

Art?

THIS SATURDAY:

Cool Nutz, Chicharones, Illmaculate, Ray Ray of G-ism, Tope and Epp, Eternal Family, DJ Fatboy
[PDX-HOP INSTITUTION] Cool Nutz has had one hell of a career, and one of the best things about his 15-plus years in the game is that the Portland MC seems to be doing nothing but picking up momentum. This show marks the release of the first mixtape from his Northwest Breakout radio show, which is proving a productive side project while he solidifies tracks for his eighth LP, Incredible, due in mid-February. With a likelihood of hearing some killer advance tracks, a stable of PDX hip-hop artists to back it up and the promise of an above average digital mixtape, there are definitely worse ways to fill the doldrums between Christmas and New Year’s. SHANE DANAHER. 9 pm. Ash Street Saloon, 225 SW Ash St., 226-0430. $10. Map

LifeisaParty & Capital Brand Present…
MASSIVE 14
What can we say about this one? It’s the day after Xmas, so hopefully Santa and his elves brought you something besides a lump of coal. It’s right before New Years so you should be in the mood to get out and get down. It’s the last Massive of 2009 and we are gonna go out with a bang. Oh, and we have Original Members of Parliament Funkadelic.

Parliament Funkadelic: Where do you begin when describing the members of the bands that have backed George Clinton? The Crown Room is beyond excited to have Original Members of Parliament Funkadelic playing the final Massive of 2009. Members of Original P have also played with Cameo, The Supremes, The Temptations Review, The Platters, The Flamingos, Kool & the Gang, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes and Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell. Without question or doubt, they will be bringing the funk to Massive 14: I Can Has Funk.

Evil One: This former Portland resident and multi-faceted mix master has spun parties all over the United States, having shared the stage with legendary DJs such as DJ AM, Mix Master Mike, DJ Swamp, Prince Paul and more. He works with a range of sponsors including Red Bull, Scion, Rane and Brand Jordan and has even been profile in Forbes.Never one to limit himself, Evil One can mix from current hits to old classics with ease, covering hip-hop, rock, club, dancehall, electronic and more. We are definitely excited to welcome him back to Massive!

Dr. Adam: Massive resident DJ Doctor Adam, whose mixtape for street wear site Karmaloop hit over 20,000 downloads (grab it here if you don’t have it - http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ixmkyxx5i5f) will be holding it down as he always does for PDX’s fashion show/dance party. Those that don’t know his name must not live in Portland as his name is everywhere! Massive is the perfect opportunity to see what he does perfectly, which is make you want to dance.

Massive 14 will also feature a fashion show highlighting local boutiques and designers and will be hosted by local personality Ronin Roc.

lol wow. Cool Nutz is the worst rapper there is in Portland. He makes the Portland scene look terrible. There are SO many better rappers than Jus Family Records in Portland.

:sigh:

He used to post on hoopsworld. He may not be the best but he was certainly one of the innovators in bringing hiphop to the Rose City back in the early 90s.
