I have heard multiple analysts say that Scoot could have gone #1 in many drafts.

I'm absolutely certain that if Shaedon had stayed in school he would have gone ahead of Scoot and Miller. He's a better shooter and he's just as athletic.

I think Scoot/Shae is the kind of foundation that you build a contender around..... and they're so young. We have the opportunity to really build around this group.

I'm psyched.

100% agree… so exited about the future of the team. Scoot!!!!!!!!

I don't see it. Hopefully it's true. Scoot will never be as good as Dame.

He doesn't have to be as good as Dame.

Sharpe is going to be BETTER than Dame. :devilwink:

I don't think he will. Sharpe will be a star, but not better than Dame.

Yeah they're an awesome duo.

I'm excited to see what Ant can do as well.

If Dame and Grant want to give it their all with these guys Id welcome their leadership. But if they're not committed it's probably better to look at sending them elsewhere.

I know it's not the cool thing, and harshing the buzz, but I'd really like to see Scoot actually play at least 40-50 games against NBA competition; and see Sharpe make major strides next year, before anointing them a championship duo. I think doing so at this point is premature squared

The foundation is there and I'm extremely excited to see what this duo can do and become. What I'm a little unsure right now is if Cronin is the man to round up this team down the line and even more unsure how invested Jody Allen is into this team and her willingness to spend for a contender.

I think we can take the Pistons

Monty's going down

Hopefully, both of them start playing some fucking legitimate defense.

I'll be rooting for both of them.

Like Dame?
I've been vocal that pairing any no-D guard with Dame isn't going to win anything because he doesn't play defense.

I've also been vocal that I don't think Dame can be the #1 on a championship team.

I've also said Dame isn't the best blazer of all time because he doesn't play defense.

So... nice try?

I agree, he will not be a better three-point shooter. I feel comfortable saying he will be a better distributor and defender. I would guess equal or better finisher.

I liked the stuff I heard Scoot and his family say after he was drafted. I like his approach. I think he's mature for his age.

I think he's about as good an heir apparent to Dame as there is.

That said, I'd like Dame to hang around to mentor him.

But, while I think they both have the intangible quality, the it factor, their games are going to be so different. I actually think Scoot's qualities will make him better at making the players around him better than Dame, although I don't see him becoming the scorer and definitely not the shooter Dame is. I think he projects as a better creator with the dribble and I think he can create offense off his defense and even will be an asset on the boards. I think he and Dame can co-exist for several stretches a game but probably with Scoot at the point -- this will work a lot better with Scoot than with Ant.

It's not about being better than Dame. It's about winning at a higher level.
It’s sad so many here put a player over the team. Dame has made half a billion dollars… his life will be good no matter what happens.

Scoot has played against NBA competition for 2 years.

Nearly 1/2 billion dollars. I have to be honest, I'd be pretty damn loyal for that as well. I wish him a ring, whatever happens. It just doesn't seem like it will be here, so then time to move on to the next era and cut the cord if that is the case.

Exactly. We are trying to build a winning team and we have two foundational pieces who are 20 years old. So much time now to go out and add in core pieces.
And probably 2 of the most talented, athletic, explosive, entertaining foundational pieces you could ask for… home run 2 years in a row will make a quick rebuild

I'm all for prioritizing the young talents of this franchise and not trading it away.

But no I disagree with your comment, that's a very bad take. Many fans are very emotionally connected to Dame, which is fine. The team is ultimately about the people connected to it including the players. Dame embodies that more than any Blazer ever. I am upset too, it's just father time is unrelenting, Dame is aging, and the Blazers don't have enough talent to contend soon.

I get what you are saying… but he is 33… you have to know when to move on. No move makes a team from 5th worst to title contender.

Alright , so after listening to Joe, i've come to the conclusion that both keeping Scoot and building around Dame can coexist. Scoot will get time at point behind Dame, at 2G behind Shaedon, and at C behind Nurk ( the Stu Inman, "but we have Drexler". Bobby Knight "play Jordan at center" thing). I still think Joe is going to bring in some veteran depth at the 2/3, DeRozan possibly. That would help free up the pick reconciliation situation with Chicago by trading Ant / pick. The cap space would be there in that kind of move. The dawn of a new day. Gus Williams & Dennis Johnson weren't huge dudes. But they were great players who played side by side to a title. Go Blazers!!

And if Scoot and Shaedon are special, added to Dame's amazing talent, this team should become special as well.
