This guy most likely saved lives

If "the hero" saw that the guy's weapon was jammed why didn't he run up to him, tackle him and take the weapon away? Why would he let him just walk away and possibly shoot more innocent people? How did he know that just staring at the guy with his gun pointed at him was enough to stop the killings?

bud, I would never run up to a guy that MAY have the chance to unjam his gun before I get to him, on the chance I could take him down..just not sound thinking. If I had a clear shot take it,if any other action could put more people in harms way..restraint

Just imagine if the shooter wasn't addicted to his X-Box violent games? We should ban those, too.

Again, READ IN CONTEXT.

Did you notice that my very next comment was about mental health?

as in maybe this guy shouldn't have ever been given a gun, or had someone show him how to use a gun, or lend him a gun or show him their gun.

Maybe it's time for a break from the board?

I'm not sure that the guys who do these things have the same cognitive level of thought process that you and I do. To you and me, the idea of someone shooting us would probably stop us from doing a LOT of things (not that we'd ever think about doing them).

To them, they don't think that way. In some ways, their illness prohibits them from having the social awareness of wrong or right. They don't necessarily think that someone might shoot them or that being stopped/shot is as high of a deterrent as it should be.

It might cause them to run or go somewhere else, but it's unlikely they thought it through enough to consider just offing themselves in the first place.

sorry i wasnt clear, i meant take him alive, let the loser get gang raped for the rest of his life

Maybe it's time for a break from the board?

And PapaG's not-so-subtle power grab begins... first he suggests the mods take a break, then when they're all taking breaks, he petitions Denny to become a mod... and then bans us all.

approach him drawn, he makes a move you take him out

just my opinion, but if these guys start getting taken alive, i think that may dissuade at least one future killing

Did he have a history of mental illness? Far as I can tell, his girlfriend says he was a decent guy who played a lot of XBox.

Yes, because that's exactly what the mentally ill deserve.

Who says the guy was mentally ill? Seems to me he was a coward who wanted to live in infamy for some reason.

Seriously, I keep reading about the Clackamas guy being mentally ill, but the people who knew him that have been interviewed said nothing like that.

Why are you changing what I said to fit your point?

Here is an EXACT quote of what I said.

The emphasis is on if HE didn't have have the gun.

That is not saying anything about the guns themselves not being accessible.

So stop making my point to fit your narrow view of what the argument is about.

That's not what you said at all......

"parental responsibility. not having the guns available in the first place. cost prohibitive prices for certain styles of guns."

You listed off a few ways of preventing this from happening and I was asking about the second of the three. Not sure where you got that EXACT quote but it wasn't from that post.

Shit, BC is on to me...

This exchange says way more about us than it does about the Clackamas shooter, of course. All this clap-trap lipservice about treating the mentally ill is disgusting when it comes out that really, thy just want them to be gang-raped to death.

That's why you'll never be a real hero.

Nate has no respect for you now.

end of the day this guy is telling his story, its fair for anyone to believe or not

i see no reason to suspect he is lying personally, especially since his friend was right there and could blow the lid off his whole shizzle

His friend is in on it too. He's the wingman for the guy who didn't shoot the Clackamas Killer. Imagine the puss he'll get from this story...

the guy from Clackamas? iirc, he had a history of mental issues. I thought his girlfriend was killed?

That wouldn't happen. Measures have been taken for VIP prisoners since the "Dahmer incident."

yeah, THE guns, not ALL guns.

No, he had told her he was moving to Hawaii and had even bought a ticket to go there.

What are you talking about?

Why do you hate gun ownership?

well, mental illness isn't always a huge red light that goes off and lets everyone know "hey look at me! I'm mentally ill!"

also, the guy killed 2 people and went into a shopping mall with guns and a bullet proof jacket (right? I think..).

That's not behavior of a normal sane person with no mental health issues.

and really bc, let the courts decide if he is fit to be in prison

im sure there are plenty of other murderers that would love your compassion though

I'm confusing the 2 shooters, sorry.

Btw, mental illness doesn't just mean schizophrenia (etc). There are many different avenues for mental health issues to rear it's head in a person.

Well, any murder is irrational. I'd say that a serial killer is more mentally ill than somebody who has a one-off incident like this one.

I'd say they're both pretty fucking crazy.
