Go team by team. Obviously has to be a team that is in title contention, or wants to be, right? Start with the west...Suns? no. Memphis? no. GS? no. Dallas? Sure. Nothing to offer. Utah? Not anymore. Denver? No good picks to offer. Minnesota? Nope. Clippers? Nothing to offer. Pelicans? Nope. Spurs? Rebuilding. Lakers? Nothing to offer. Kings? Wanna hitch your wagon to Fox making close to 30 a year? I don't. OKC and Houston, no.
East: Miami is a possibility. Boston, unlikely. Milwaukee, unlikely. Philly, hard capped, and unlikely. Toronto maybe. Chicago, maybe. Brooklyn, nope. Cleveland seems unlikely. Atlanta no. Charlotte no. Knicks, likely a no now. Washington maybe. Indy, Det., Orl., all seem like a no. So what do we have? like 4 teams able to make an offer? Or likely to? Which of them have a bunch of picks from other teams?
Cool so we are paying a guy another 100m for two years who nobody wants? Awesome.

I actually think as long as Dame plays well as most expect, but the teams sucks, his value will be much higher come trade deadline. The injury will be of the past and teams will be more desperate to get what they believe is the piece to a ring.
No reason to trade him now.

It's idiotic to even present the notion of trading him now. Deadline? I can entertain it and understand if the team is not cohesive, living up to expectations.

But now? It's dumb.

"Hey we got all these new things to see if they can gel with our superstar. Let's see how it goes."

"Nah, trade out superstar. We already know we are going to suck."

".... What? We got these guys, or traded for them, or re-signed them to be with our fully healthy superstar!"

"TRADE HIM NOW WE ARE GOING TO SUCK"

That's the logic. That is to say, there is none to be had on that until the deadline.

I think most here are completely fine with sitting until the deadline. It's that weird in between time where too many teams made moves like you said and are not going to meet expectations this year, but they don't know that yet.

But, yes. If Toronto called and offered Barnes and Van Vleet. I'm in.

Nas is on a nice trajectory to be potentially special. I think he has a higher ceiling than Ant. Plus, a trade could be in the works to acquire another SF.
Probably is, to have enough minutes for Dame, Ant, Hart, GPIi, and Sharpe (who Ive heard will play) at the 1-3, Nas will have to play the 4.

There needs to be some type of consolidation. If Nashas to play at the '4', that isn't playing him in a position of strength.

Roster is gonna look a lot better in a couple seasons when we draft all the players we get from the Dame trade. Be patient.

I'm not sure i've ever seen a huge Cronin supporter but if there are some, i'm sure they are taking a reasonable stance and waiting for everything to play out. We aren't done

LLLOOLOLLLOOOLOLLMAAOROTFLMAO

Dude, do you not understand what "hard-capped" means? There are reasons teams avoid this situation like the plague.

Are you saying we are gonna renege on the deals we agreed to?

I wouldn't know the answer to that question. Nor would I know the answer if player will change there mind. Those things have happened, but history would say they are unlikely.

I am pointing out that free agency is 30 hours old and days away from moves being official, so it might be a wee-bit premature to come to extreme conclusions.

October 2nd, 1999 - Blazers trade for Scottie Pippen
July 15, 1996 - Blazers trade for Rasheed Wallace
August 23, 1997 - Blazers sign Brian Grant
August 2, 1999 - Blazers trade for Steve Smith

Again, not saying a lot of moves don't happen right away, but there can also be moves made after the first 30 hours.

A trio of Anthony Edwards, DPOY Gobert and Karl Anthony Towns? Sounds rough.
It sounds like it would be rough for two of those guys to guard the perimeter. I cant see KAT doing well against most of the PFs in this league including the guy we just picked up. I think people are too quick to discount our draft pick who I think has the best chance of anyone drafted just now not only to be a superstar down the road but also to be a real impact player right away. I realize he didn't play in any college games that counted but he played against the best college talent in practice. So let's see how he looks next week in Vegas and go from there.

If our second best player is our SF, along with Dame, Ant, Grant and Nurk then we're a problem for a lot of teams. So we'll see what Sharpe can do and how he progresses.

No other way to put it.

This offseason was a complete disaster.

We blew up our team for “more flexibility”, “more size/length/athleticism” and the result?

We arguably got smaller.

I’m not sure we have any flexibility given Dame extension, Nurk (and Ant) probably got overpaid, same with GP2. Grant is probably going to get overpaid.

MLE - Guard
Draft pick - Guard

At least we got Grant, I suppose, but this off-season was truly an Olshey-esque like disaster.

We pretty much blew up the squad (good decision) in order to replicate all the same mistakes (unbalanced guard heavy roster with a bunch of overpaid players).

God damnit, Joe.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....
Don't worry, I'm not laughing with you.
I'm laughing at you.

All started with that horrific Clippers trade, a week before the deadline.

Only if dame is still injured or he makes a huge huge jump .edwards is very nice, but he is quite far away from superstar status yet.
That seemed like hyperbole to me to, that Edwards will very soon surpass Dame. I think Wolves are more talented based on known players (Sharpe being unknown) just don't agree that Edwards is close to Dame.

What was the biggest need to address? Defense. By all metrics, we got 2 absolutely ELITE defenders in Grant and Payton. Even if Payton doesn’t start, he absolutely makes a difference defensively off the bench. Look how he changed the Warriors defense when he came back from injury in the playoffs. Jason Tatum has about 5” on Payton. When Payton covered him in the Finals, he forced Tatum to settle for low % fadeaway jumpers.

I get that people wanted more height/length but I would rather have players that are capable of playing defense. Boston and Golden State didn’t start anyone taller than 6’9”. Miami didn’t start anyone taller than 6’9”. Ayton was Phoenix’s only starter taller than 6’6” and they don’t want to retain him.

I don't think Edwards will be better than Dame this season or next, Also the Wolves are a worse built team than us. They are paying two guys 72M that can't defend the perimeter. So I think the Wolves made a worse deal than Cronin has but obviously I could be wrong.

So now the #7 pick who hasn't played in a year just out of high school is the hope this team gets better this year?

And the next and the next. There are other hopes. We can hope Ant is just as good at SG as he was at PG which would make us pretty damn good. We can hope that taking Grant from the first option to the second or thirs drastically increases his offensive efficiency and allows him to concentrate again on defense.

So I don't think we're pinning our hopes on one thing. That being said, I think this is an embalanced roster and it seems we could have done better but there is hope,

I agree that their team composition sucks (you have KAT and then you trade the farm for Gobert, wut?) but it's pretty dripping with talent concentrated in 3 guys and a bit beyond that as well. We will see how Sharpe turns out and if Ant is indeed the star I think he will be. If Sharpe can play SF and is a franchise player and Ant is a borderline All-Star or above (very realistic to me actually) then we might be better than Minnie talent-wise as well. I'm extremely optimistic about Ant and Sharpe both, but I would be shocked in the best kind of way if I could honestly say our team had more talent than the Wolves.

Out of curiosity, which teams?

This was as of a couple of months before the start of last season. There may have been more added to the list closer to the beginning of the year.

Chicago Bulls
Cleveland Cavaliers
Dallas Mavericks
Houston Rockets
Miami Heat
  • Acquired Kyle Lowry from Raptors via sign-and-trade.
  • Used non-taxpayer mid-level exception on P.J. Tucker.
New Orleans Pelicans
New York Knicks
Oklahoma City Thunder
San Antonio Spurs
Toronto Raptors
  • Used non-taxpayer mid-level exception on Khem Birch.
Washington Wizards

It’s an average offseason, there should be some optimism around here even though I’d say it was a very average offseason, less than I expected but not a total fail. I’ll tell you what bugs me the most about our roster, why the fuck didn’t we keep Larry Nance Jr. Roster would be so much better right now. No way that was the deal breaker in the CJ trade.

He doesn't understand the hard cap or matched salary must be guaranteed.

lol...yeah, I read his tweet thinking exactly that. Bledsoe only means salary relief to a team that can absorb his contract into cap-space...and I think maybe no team can at this point?

The more I think about it the more I’m ok with what we did.

We had two routes this summer.

1: Trade 7, future picks, Nas, etc for the best we could get—maybe OG or Collins or Ayton or someone like that.

2. Make a bet that one or more of Nas, Ant, and Sharpe pop this year and significantly increase their value.

#2 occurring, plus picks and stuff, is the only way to a superstar. #1 doesn’t get you there and we blow our load on a mid-tier player.

But I actually feel pretty confident that 1 of our 3, if not 2 or more, will pop and be worth more in 6 months than they are today.

We can argue Payton vs. Warren or Jalen Smith and if that was the right call. But ultimately this is an inconsequential debate as far as our ultimate ceiling is concerned.
