I miss the days of the "makeup call". If a ref screwed up and knew it at the other end makeup foul or turnover would be called and all the players and coaches approved of that style. But no more. If they screw up, too bad for the team they screwed.

Within every NBA game the refs make mistakes. I get that. But since this is the case they need to have the guts to either correct them or instil some justice. And as we saw at Indy, a bad call made even worse took momentum and essentially handed a game to Indy.

In OT an Indy player fouled Nic (it was not called) and the ball went out of bounds and seemed to do so off Nic. The refs can review who the ball went off of but not the foul. OK, I get that. But the refs should be able to make up for it by keeping the ball with Portland as would be fair. They didn't and it turned the game.

That is what's wrong with the NBA. That and floppers.

The floppers are the referee's faults too. So again This thread is really only about the Refs. NBA Refs are lazy and they DO NOT officiate the game like College Referees do. They don't rotate when they are supposed to and they REGULARLY call outside of their primary area of responsibility. Notice there isn't a problem with flopping at the college or HS levels?

Leon Wood is just a bad official. He is a lazy ball watcher. It was Leon Wood who missed the call when Tyson Chandler slapped Joel P's broken wrist.

If you have never read the Tim Donaghy book you should. Even if you don't believe all of it or don't like him the book is quite interesting.

Donaghy basically admits that if it wasn't for the refs the Blazers would have beat the Lakers in 2000. He says that after the 3rd qtr the refs new they had to go to work and help the Lakers out.

Bitch move perhaps when framed like that, but the NBA has become a bitching of the game of basketball. The amount of ticky tack fouls they call has ruined the game. It happens every night across the NBA and it's disgusting, damn right we should bitch, it completely alters the landscape of the league.

Bitch about the culture all you want I certainly miss the tougher days of the 90's but unless your talking game 6 Sac vs LA it's rare that refs completely give another team the game with bad calls.

Last night the refs call yet another clean block on Batum, but not only a foul, but a goaltend. In a competitive game, just 1-2 bad calls can easily swing the outcome of a game. NBA titles haven't meant shit since the 80s. The Lakers and Celtics (and Spurs) were true champions, after that, it's been whoever the refs favor, intentionally or not, with their calls.
