Thoughts: Do the Blazers have a deal in mind?

I'm asking because they have accummulated a bunch of "assets" that have little value in themselves but collectively would be valuable. They can't sign another FA (except Joel) because of the cap.

Thoughts?

Also, summer league is over, regular season a ways off, nothing is happening, board is bored and resorting to bickering.
 
I don't think they have a specific deal in mind, but want to have assets ready when the right one comes along. That way they will be ready to pull the trigger at any time in the next three or so years. My guess is that nothing will happen this season, but after next season (when they likely get another good draft pick), I think they will start pushing harder to see what they can get.
 
I was talking to my neighbor's lawn guy and he said his cousin's cousin's cousin works on Paul's yacht and that guy's cousin's brother-in-law works for Vulcan.

He said to expect one deal and two injuries before the trade deadline.

I could see another move... I think shooting guard is still weak.

Is 'Randy Bodek' code for something?

A quick google search identifies Randy Bodek is a character in the 1989 movie 'Loverboy'.

Loverboy + Mediocre man = ?

I have a friend that is a scout for another team. I think it was MickZagger who dubbed him pizza guy because he refuses to believe someone could actually know a person that works for a team. I decided to name him Randy Bodek after the character in Loverboy because he was a pizza delivery guy.

I think Olshey is trying to position Portland like he did the Clippers, with lots of pieces in place to pull off another Chris Paul-type trade if the chance presents itself. I don't think there's that opportunity right now, aside from taking a one-year shot at Dwight Howard (which would be a bad idea).

At this point, though, I don't even know if a Chris Paul-level deal would make sense if you really want to contend for a title. Would a guy like Paul + Aldridge + spare parts really be competitive with the Thunder/Heat/Lakers? Nope.

Portland's best hope is really that guys like Lillard, Batum, Williams and/or Leonard blow up into something much, much better than anybody expects, and we can go the Thunder route toward contending in another year or two.

I used to know Pat Zipfel who was the head scout for the Blazers... but I haven't talk to him in a long time. I wonder where he is now....

Edit: Surprise surprise.... he works for the Timberwolves :lol:

Ronnie price is the name you are thinking. He is a scrub, but a scrub on a short contract that is a workout buddy with Lillard

Yeah.... except they had Rudy's jersey on sale for a coffee can of dirt for a full season while he was here.
 
Half our roster is going to be of no help at all, so I certainly hope there's a very good player in their sights.
