Thoughts on the Death Penalty

For some of the deranged, horrible criminals out there death is a release, end of suffering. If I want to punish them I give them life with hard labor and no contact with entertainment, etc. That's more of a penalty than an execution. Work them and keep their world only work and sleep. No movie deals, no internet or tv, no sports, just your old bread and water, sledgehammer on rocks sort of punishment.

No cruel or unusual punishment.

The death penalty is... A penalty.

Imagine that!

Indeed, but there are other types of penalties. So the death penalty isn't needed to give people confidence that laws will be enforced.

No it isn't. It just happens to be the penalty for the most heinous crimes.

Any penalty that isn't enforced leaves less reason to respect the Law .

So we agree; get rid of the death penalty, make it jail time for the most heinous crimes and be sure to enforce it (for confidence/respect/admiration).

Where the hell do you get that I want to do away with the death penalty?

When the people see the worst of the worst put to death, they can rest easier that the person will never commit the crime again. And that the Law is protecting them and it works.

Locking them up for life also means they can't kill people. People will know the Law is Protecting them and it Works.

I wish we could just torture them publicly for the rest of their life. Strip them naked and stick sharp objects up their ass. Then let those families that they hurt have weekly skin peeling sessions.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Washington state woman going through a divorce and custody battle is accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter and severely cutting her teenage daughter at a popular inn on the northern Oregon coast, a crime that has shocked tourists and residents.

Smith faces charges of aggravated murder, which could lead to the death penalty, and attempted aggravated murder. She was to be arraigned Monday via a video feed from the Clatsop County Jail in Astoria

If guilty (killing a 2 yr old), would you sentence her to death?

Does the fact you are willing to kill a 2 yr old automatically make you insane?

The Clatsop county jail doesn't have her in a ninja turtle suit so she must have passed the jail's psych test. Doesn't prove she's sane but she's not a harm to herself.

Man, I just can't wrap my head around someone harming their child to get back at their ex. What the fuck is wrong with these people?

A very small percentage of people murder other people.

Murderers usually keep murdering until they are apprehended.

Once paroled, many if not most will eventually murder again.

Those with no possibility for parole often murder other prisoners.

Executed murderers have never murdered anyone after their execution.

Pretty effective deterrent!

Absolutely. She's the most heinous of murderers.

Does the fact you are willing to kill a 2 yr old automatically make you insane?

Not at all. Like most murderers, she's just a very evil person.

Insane people are actually more likely to hurt themselves than anybody else.

The death penalty is the only way to give people confidence that laws will be enforced.

History has shown there's no life sentence that can't be commuted, no prison that can't be escaped from.

The death penalty also keeps a lot of law-abiding families of murder victims from being charged with murder for doing what our Justice system would not.
