Throw a max contract at Roy Hibbert?

Yeah... there's no chance in hell that Indy lets him go. There wasn't a chance before, but this just cements that.

It wouldn't surprise me if Houston offered something close to a max deal.

What does the original post mean? Should Hibbered be offered a Max, that the Pacers have already offered him the max?

Am i crazy for thinking of offering him the max in free agency?

I don't think you're crazy. The guy is a legit all-star big. How many centers would you take over him in the league? Howard, Bynum, maybe Chandler, who else?

Big men with talent get paid.

No doubt that is the way it has been for a long time. But for the same reason you should now choose a Durant over an Oden, I am not so sure many big men these days deserve the max. The rules don't favor them anymore. Wasn't 18 rebounds tonight Hibbert's career high?

Max players to me should dominate most nights, not every so often. He should be paid alot (12-14 million a year) but what is the max these days? We have a new CBA and the salaries need to come down. Indiana can't let him walk, but Max money?
That is a tough one for me.

Another factor IMO there aren't any real center prospects (College/Foreign) out there.

Portland needs to forget about getting a center and play small ball. We are cursed at center. The best we can hope for is that we'll stummble into another Joel Pryzbilla type center some day (Joel in his prime, who was a shot blocking/rebound machine"

I'd rather go the other way and throw everything (and the kitchen sink) at Sacramento for DeMarcus (don't mess with my pipedream, RR7!)

Does Roy get to play against the Miami front line every game?

Still, it would probably be better paying him the max compared to what Nic is asking for.

Would Hibbert and LMA be the best big man duo in the league?

Can't imagine a scenario where Indiana doesn't match any offer though

Dave (B-Edge) pretty much said it's a big waste of time -- they will match any offer.

The three big RFA that are on the market (Gordon/Hibbert/Batum) have had all their respective teams say they would match any offer (well NO hasn't but the rumored offer that was pretty close to max that Gordon turned down says a lot). Will they match any offer is hard to say but its the old tongue and cheek to get teams to only spend on RFA when all the other options are off the table for that team. I can't see Indiana not matching Hibbert for max because of just how important he is to them and they have no replacement for him. Gordon is going to be the face of NO whether he likes it or not. Batum I have no clue what we are doing with him.

How much would you guys pay Spencer Hawes? He is probably the most realistic center goal this off-season, especially since he is from Seattle and you know how PA gushes over them.

I think Hawes will get 8-9, but I really am just guessing.

I agree. NO demanded that Gordon be included in the CP3 deal. For them not to match any offer and let Paul go for basically nothng would be surprising. It just won't happen.

The SG position for the Blazers will be young. IMO we will have Wes occupying the position until someone like Elliott Williams and/or Beal or Lamb yakes over. I am OK with that. Our cap space needs to go to a PG.

But remember. David Stern demanded that Gordon be included, not Tom Benson. I'm not saying it will make a difference for sure, but it could?

Hawes is an option. Who else. We seem to have lots of options for PF's but not centers.

Between JJ Hcikson, A possible lottery pick, and Joel Freeland we have three possible bigs. Do we just go small and keep Pryzbilla for the few teams that have legitimate centers?

If there is an actual possibilty of getting Freeland, can they afford both Hickson and Freeland? If they draft a big then either Freeland or Hickson will nto be signed. Hopefully they will know Freeland's intent when they see him in Houston.

Freeland, LMA, Hickson, and Pryz would be better than what we have had.

I guess you could throw a max deal at Hibbert and see what happens... it's only a 3 day wait.

Except it's also a 3 day wait when someone does that to Batum, D Williams, Dragic, Hawes. I honestly think it's important not to tie up money in lost causes with this new waiting period

I have a feeling Batum is going to get a stupid contract offer and I hope we don't match. He isn't worth more than 9 MAYBE 10 million per year. Even that seems a little high for him. If some team throws a bigger deal at him, I hope we don't match.

Williams is most likely a pipe dream and I don't think Dragic will be signed in the first day of free agency. Hawes is someone that could get snatched up quickly. I'm just wondering if Indy is willing to go max on Hibbert with Granger already on a big contract. I'm guessing they will. All-Star centers don't come along very often.
