To be honest, if the decision is made to blow it up/go another direction, should wait till end of season unless you are offered a bundle now for top assets.

How about doing what they should’ve done years ago and trading McCollum first? And then see how they play with an actual balanced roster. I don’t even care about what we get back, I just want him gone now. And if Olshey won’t do it, find someone that will.

Seriously, imagine a lineup of Dame, Powell, Nas, Nance, and Nurk. Idk about any of you, but I would want to watch that team and I think they would win a lot more consistently.
This.

My general idea has always been to surround our starting backcourt with 3 & D guys. However, I am rethinking this. What good does it do to have 4 Steph Curry's on the perimeter when CJ has the ball? He sure seems to shoot more than he makes a critical pass.

This same discussion is going on with regards to Seachickens.

CJ has his value, but it’s redundant in Portland. We have a million guards that can score but are so thin on players that can rebound or have length/size to defend bigger players. It’s so unbalanced yet Olshey won’t use his surplus to balance it out. It’s infuriating.

Nurk leads Portland in every advanced stat. #1 in win shares/48. #1 in PER. #1 in BPM. #1 in DPM. #1 in VORP. He’s the only one that rebounds. He’s an elite screen setter. He’s underpaid. He’s the least of this teams problems.

It is undeniable that Nurk has been Portland's best player this year. Unfortunately, it also answers the question of "how good a team is if Nurk is your best player". Is he underpaid? A little. Is he a star player worth building around? Absolutely not. I certainly hope Portland does not make the mistake of making him the next CJ - overpaid for his contributions to winning.

Given that this season seems lost - the way to look forward is to make sure you can control what you can control - and not deciding to pay too much money to Nurk is of paramount importance, and this means - maybe it is time to trade him when he is at his peak individual form to get as much as possible for him - because the alternatives are getting nothing when he walks or overpaying him - and neither option is appealing.

I agree it’s not a good thing that he’s our best player. But that’s not his fault. I just think Nurk gets way too much shit and is under appreciated. Wish we had more Nurks (size) and fewer CJs.

I absolutely do not think it is his fault - I just think that trying to make him more than what he is - is a mistake - and since we are likely stuck with CJ going forward (I agree he is a good player, but hard to trade given his salary and length of contract) - not making the same mistake with Nurk is important.

Probably time to start a 2022 Draft thread at least. See what prospects we can convince ourselves are the next MJ.

He's an average at best 5 in the league, imo. If you are going to have a 7' rim protector I'd rather have on that can block shots. He averages 1/2 block per game. He a decent passer, but struggles with touch around the hoop.

That's risky when dealing with guys in the last year of their contract.

sure, the go before deadline but if you are talking about blow up then I assume Dame & CJ will be on the block, as two assets.

Just a reminder: we traded away our first rounder for 2022 (somehow making that three years in a row) in the Nance trade.

Nurk is terrible, every time we play a Center with some bounce he absolutely humiliates him (see Rudy Gobbert), he has no atleticism, is fat and out of shape. The best player on the Blazers based on his impact on plus-minus numbers has been Tony Snell and Nurk is just a part of the starting lineup that has been beaten by 20 by the Spurs' (!) starters.

Tony Snell needs to replace Covington in the Starting Lineup. Generally speaking, I would absolutely overhaul the rotation before blowing up the team.

Lol, ive been checking it out for a week our so. Number one and two projections ate a 7’0 stick from gonzaga and a 6’10” bull from Duke… who i think could be our future four.

I think we can rebuild it quite a bit without blowing it up.

Trade CJ and Covington. Neither guy is going to be happy as a bench player, which is what they should be on the current team. So they have to go.

Commit to Dame, Norm and Nurk. Everything else is an asset that can be included as an upgrade at forward. We're not trading Dame, and we only want pieces that fit really well around him because that's what you do with a superstar. Norm is a perfect complement at SG, and Nurk (despite his many flaws) is absolutely a great complement to Dame at center. I'd want a pretty solid commitment from Nurk that he plans on re-signing here, though. Without that, I'd trade him too.

I'd like to see Nas, Simons and Nance stay, but to get quality you have to give up quality. So they are definitely available.

I actually don't think the team is far off from being a really competitive team, but it is going to require that we make some foundational changes. As everyone has said, CJ needs to go. That's #1. Nassir needs to enter the starting lineup. Roco and Nurk can go as well. It's time to make some big swings. We're talking CJ plus multiple picks/Roco. I'm okay losing some depth if it means we get more talent and better fits. Go for a Siakam or Simmons type player. There will be some cheap buys at deadline to fill out the roster. Make defense and hard work the identity. Nassir in the starting lineup would help with that as well as another forward in the acquisition for CJ/Roco/Picks.

why let Nurk and Roco walk? probably could get some value for them for teams contending this year, especially Nurk.

Their contracts are done at the end of the season, so in essence you are trading value of maybe 5 mil. What will you get in return for that? more expiring deals.
CJ and DJS to Cleveland for Rubio, Osman and Okoro

Roughly where I'm at as well.

Wouldn't happen in real life but was able to pull off a couple trades in 2k for Turner and Simmons

Starters
Lillard
Powell
Little
Simmons
Turner

Rotation
Nance Jr
Craig
Lamb
Zeller

Deep
Isaiah Jackson
Paul Reed
Jaden Springer
Ben McLemore
Greg Brown

Turner with Simmons would be a really good fit.

There's always somewhere. If John Wall and Westbrook can get traded, so can CJ and Covington.

The hard part is coming to terms with the fact that the guys you'd spent so much on weren't really worth much. After you swallow that bitter pill, well, you just move on and trade for similar value.

It's not about upgrading. It's about side-grading. Move your bad fit/bad player guys for bad fit/bad players on other teams. Hopefully they are a better fit here.

But even if they are just as bad in all ways, at least it's a change of scenery.

And even if they are just as bad in all ways, they are not the player who's a long-term member of the team so it's emotionally and politically easier to just bench them if necessary.

We were saying last night that he should be Bosnian Benched

I've been calling him Bosnian Least

that quote/tweet from CB today was a killer too

Chauncey Billups: "I've never seen a team that needs its bench to inspire our starters. That shit is crazy to me. It's supposed to be the other way around."
