TJ Ford and Jarron Collins to be Blazers soon?

TJ would be an amazing pickup!

I'm kind of split on TJ. There must be a reason this guy has been given the starting spot on a couple mediocre teams and then always ends up losing it. And I really like the PG's we have, although I don't love their game so much. I feel the Blazers are kind of like a college team, as far as togetherness and enthusiasm. I don't think TJ would be the piece that makes us a contender to take it all, he might improve us a little bit. Unless the Blazers think they understand what has been his problem in the past and think they can fix it and think he could be our # 1 PG in a year or two (he is still only 28, isn't he?), then I wouldn't do it.

Who cares.... he's better then my boy Patty.

I may be loyal, but if you really go back and look at all my posts, i am positive but also real. TJ is better then Patty flat out. Patty is my friend, but this is business.

Yeh, I'm usually kind of hard headed (no jokes, please) about the team but I kind of have a soft spot for this team. Probably we should sign TJ and if Patty wants to play he'll just have to up his game. I'm still wondering a little if we want to assimilate even another player into our system this late in the season?

I was a fan before an employee.

Late season additions can be tough!

Here is what my Pacer fan friend said about Ford when I asked him about TJ possibly joining the Blazers.

I personally think that TJ Ford can still play. The only reason he was so bad in the Pacers is because the old coach, Jim O'Brien, is a turd and doesn't know how to coach and forces players to play away from their strengths. TJ Ford needs the ball in his hands and needs to be effective. He also has a terrible 3 pt shot. Guess what JOB does- he makes TJ pass the ball really early on without being able to break down the defense and forces players to shoot 3s (also why Dahntay Jones got not PT.) TJ Ford was absolutely terrible on the Pacers, but I do believe that he can be effective on a different team under a different coach, especially as a backup. Dude is still lightning fast, above average defender, and very professional. If he does go to Portland, I'd wish him the best of luck and hope he does well for himself.

I think he's worth a shot, and maybe LMA will get him going again. Never know. Not like there's anyone else better out there.

Hopefully TJ Ford 2011 isn't Rod Strickland 2001.

Well, that team was pretty deep. We added Roy and Detlef to a team that was already pretty stacked. The 2000-2001 team had Greg Anthony and Damon already at the point, so bringing in Strickland only complicated things on a team that had its fair share of headcases.

Currently we don't have a decent backup point guard, and TJ Ford is still quite a bit younger than Strick was. He'll be 28 in March, whereas Strickland was nearly 35 by the time he returned to Portland. I like the move. If it doesn't work out, oh well. We don't have much to lose.

Ya this would be a low risk move, but I do like the idea of adding two more bigs, rather than a big and a PG. Unless Nic is going to move full time to backup 4, we need some depth behind LA. I'd be fine with adding Collins and Juwan, maybe.

The main reason he's been losing his starter spot is because of injuries. I remember when he had that really bad neck injury when he was with the Bucks. Then I think he had a serious back injury in Indiana. I think he can still play. Its hard for me to imagine that he's only 27. Him and Chris Mihm really were the one's to put Texas Longhorn basketball on the map.

I don't like the idea of TJ Ford. His best season was his rookie year (with Terry as his coach, I believe) and he's been on a death spiral ever since. He seems to wear out his welcome incredibly fast. The one thing we've had going for us is good chemistry, so I don't think he adds enough to be worth it. He doesn't play defense and he can't shoot (that's one thing Patty has over him, besides being a diamond geezer). Besides, I have a feeling Nate wants to give Roy the backup PG minutes, so I'm not even sure Nate would want to play him. Here's hoping he doesn't get a buyout.

I think your recollection is a little fuzzy

After trading Przybilla and Cunningham for a 6-7 guy, we are short on big men, not guards. Whose minutes would Ford get, and would he be better? Sounds like he'd just take minutes from our 2nd-best player, Miller. That's no improvement.

Ford doesnt excite me at all. I'd rather we add Howard and Collins.

We need a backup point guard who gets his teammates easy shots. I like Patty as he is above average outside shooter (Regardless of what his stats are...if you watch him you know he can shoot)

But right now Roy, Rudy, and Patty are all worse that Ford as a PG. I hate these mid season changes as it takes 5-10 games to get everyone used to playing with one another, but it needs to be done.

Get TJ Ford

That's the first thing you look for in a PG. Sounds like TJ could do that for us:

The Blazers have been really frustrating me Lately when they (mathews, miller, roy) break down the defense, it collapses on them and then they Don't Pass! The Hawks game was uggly, there was so many wide open shooters who went unnoticed. The Blazers need to be on and off the ball quicker. Hopefully TJ can bring that.

Late season additions can be tough!

Remember the nosedive we took when we added Strickland and Schrempf late in the season?

We're going to have a lot of trouble integrating a major piece like Wallace, much less two other players. I suspect we'll lose a few games we should have won over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully that one step back will put us two steps forward in the playoffs.

IF we make the playoffs, that is. :devilwink:

Seriously, though. OKC has a much easier schedule than us going forward, so I don't see them giving up HCA. If that's the case, I'd look matchups for playoff seeding, and I'd honestly prefer facing the Spurs, considering how much success we've had against them in the past few years. A few losses here or there couldn't hurt that much. In my mind, a 1-8 vs SA is better than 3-6 vs. LA, or even a 2-7 vs. DAL. We just matchup better .

Which Howard?

Nevermind I found the other thread which discussed Juwan Howard being released by the Heat to make room for Bibby. That would be an awesome pickup in my book.
