GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Tracy McGrady will be in the starting lineup in his New York Knicks debut on Saturday night against Oklahoma City.

Coach Mike D'Antoni said he doesn't know what the complete lineup will be, but it will include McGrady. The Knicks acquired the seven-time All-Star on Thursday in a three-team deal with Houston and Sacramento.

McGrady played only limited minutes in six games for the Rockets this season after coming back from microfracture knee surgery. He said he hopes he can play 25 to 30 minutes Saturday in what will be his first action since Dec. 23.

"Physically I feel good, but then again I haven't played in a year and a half," McGrady said. "Even the eight minutes I was playing, you really can't get a feel of how long I can play. But yeah, I think I'm ready to go."

D'Antoni wasn't sure either, since McGrady was limited to only about 7½ minutes a game this season after surgery last February. The swingman has played 41 games over the last two seasons.

"I asked him about everything and he says 'I have no idea,' " D'Antoni said. "We'll talk about it during the game and there's no restrictions on him from a medical standpoint, only how he feels and the way he looks and all that. But he'll communicate with me when he wants to come out."

The Knicks held their first morning shootaround at home this season so their new acquisitions could become more familiar with the offense. They also brought in point guard Sergio Rodriguez in the three-team trade, and acquired Eddie House, Bill Walker and J.R. Giddens in a deal that sent Nate Robinson to Boston.

The biggest piece was McGrady, more for his $22.5 million expiring contract than for the talents that won him two scoring titles. Even McGrady acknowledged that he'll be rusty and expects his timing and rhythm to be off.

"I don't think a lot of people expect a lot out of me anyway. So, it's really no pressure," McGrady said. "I'm just looking forward to going out there and playing."

What will his stat line be?

12 points and 3 assists mid way through the 2nd. Seems pretty good to me.

26/4/4. thats nice to see he still got it. but he has lot a step, and he cant shoot those high vertical jump shots he used to kill teams with. but he cann still penetrate the lane. good for him, i hope new york is good to him.

im puzzled. the rockets essentially gave up tmac and carl landry for injury prone- kevin martin. the tmac who played tonight is better than kevin martin and landry might have all star games in his future.

hey hey, most of the rockket fans are happy :devilwink:

Well, I understand why the Rockets did what they did. They needed a scorer, hence getting Martin. I realize TMac could have been that guy, but he and Adelman haven't gotten along since Adelman got there, so it makes no sense to keep him around. I do think giving up Landry was stupid though, because he's a stud.

Good debut tonight for TMac though. 26 points and 5 assists and appeared to hold up well in his 32 minutes. If he keeps playing like that the rest of the year, he could work his way to at least an MLE contract next year.

I could see McGrady getting a deal in the range of 7M to possibly more if he can keep up this level of play.

I think he could probably top out at $9mil, but he has to show his back can hold up over these last 30 games, as well that he can still play at a high level.

McGrady is out to prove something. He'll get a nice payday if he can lead the Knicks into the playoffs.

I'm afraid that won't happen, though I watched the game and really liked T-mac. He demands double team and a player like that was essential for Knicks so other could get open looks. Im so happy for him because I can't vision being a very successful athlete and injuries kill your career. He's still 29 and might have 4-5 good years in him. So good luck for him and it'd be great if a contender signed him next year.

Hopefully he can stay healthy. I'd like for him to finish his career on a high note...not on an injured one.

I think he'll have his good games (like yesterday), but that's not going to be his production level night-in and night-out. He has clearly lost a step in terms of speed, and his explosiveness and jumping ability has fallen off greatly. He just doesn't seem as fluid on the court as he used to be. On a few occasions he had to pick up his dribble and couldn't do anything other than pass off the ball, whereas he would have been able to create something off the dribble before.

I think he'll be able to put up 15/3/3 for the remaining of this season and maybe the next few ones, but I don't see him ringing in anything more than the MLE this offseason.
