Tom Penn fired?

My guess would be some sort of disagreement that couldn't be reconciled, something "criminal" or something to do with HCP's wife.

That shit is CRAZY! Wonder what happened? Sat next to him after dinner down on the court during shoot around before the Raptors game. Said he just got back in town and everything was going real well. Can't wait to find out what happened. And like Zags said, I guess his wife was VERY interesting.

reading between the lines I think he was fired for something not having to do with his job performance. People in positions like his are not fired. They are asked to step down or part ways in off-seasons if owners are not pleased with their job performance. My guess is he has been accused of something illegal or immoral or both.

I doubt the Blazers explain the decision unless forced to by the news breaking elsewhere.

RealGm says he might be in talks with the Clippers? Their owner is a cheap fuck so that would make sense.

So ... maybe he talked to the clips without permission from the Blazers? Just a hunch.

Penn was a finalist for the T-Wolves, wasn't he? Although, as others have posted, to get literally fired from this position takes more than just talking to another team without permission. What did Penn do? Is there some sort of agreement with Camby to return to the Clips that Penn was a party in constructing?

Weird. Talking about a GM position without permission or leaking some proprietary information would be my first two guesses.

when 95.5 said we have breaking blazer news...i shat myself thinkking who is injured now...i had a huge sigh of relief, but this sucks for penn

That's KP's boy though. Something had to of gone down pretty serious.

They fired him so he could be the GM of the Clippers. Big deal. He was a prick anyways. We used him for what we needed and kicked his ass to the curb.

Another Pritch-Slap if you ask me. Straight pimpin.

Hm. You don't fire people so they can get another job - you let them resign so you don't have to compensate them.

if you guys paid attention it said that it had nothing to do with KP, and more to do with paul allen/vulcan....so maybe it was an allenslap?

Maybe there was philosophical differences?

If you're fired, you don't get compensated. I like it, hopefully another pritchslap.

Unless you have violated a clause in your contract you will get compensated. It's why people talk about PA spending money to win now with the firing of Jim Mora and the hiring of Pete Carrol - he's spending money on two coaches since Mora's contract wasn't out.

It all depends on what your employment contract says, and why you got canned. Termination with cause usually means no severance. Termination without cause can include substantial severance, if that was part of the deal.

Penn late Tuesday night said he was “surprised” and “disappointed” when team president Larry Miller called him into his Rose Quarter offices Tuesday afternoon and informed him he was being relieved of his duties.

Penn, however, would not say why he was fired.

“I can’t speak to specifics and I prefer not to,’’ Penn said. “I don’t think it is appropriate.’’

Penn was gracious and thankful Tuesday night.

“I’ve moved on. It’s been an unbelievable run,’’ Penn said. “I fell in love with Rip City.’’....

.....Penn was pursued heavily last spring for the general manager position with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but turned down the job after the Blazers promoted him.

He said he has not looked for another job since.
