Here is footage of the firing:
i was thinking this version
RealGm says he might be in talks with the Clippers? Their owner is a cheap fuck so that would make sense.
So ... maybe he talked to the clips without permission from the Blazers? Just a hunch.
It is unknown why Penn was fired, but it is believed to have come from owner Paul Allen and not Pritchard.
According to the source, there had been rumblings in recent weeks within the organization that Penn's job was at stake. The primary reason was that Penn had a tendency to rub many of those he worked with the wrong way, the source said, and was seen as being a "ladder climber."
Brian Smith has some info: http://www.columbian.com/weblogs/blazerbanter/2010/mar/16/blazers-fire-penn-source-says/
Still, I can't imagine PA firing Penn for being ambitious.

They fired him so he could be the GM of the Clippers. Big deal. He was a prick anyways. We used him for what we needed and kicked his ass to the curb.
Another Pritch-Slap if you ask me. Straight pimpin.
Hm. You don't fire people so they can get another job - you let them resign so you don't have to compensate them.
If you're fired, you don't get compensated. I like it, hopefully another pritchslap.

Penn late Tuesday night said he was “surprised” and “disappointed” when team president Larry Miller called him into his Rose Quarter offices Tuesday afternoon and informed him he was being relieved of his duties.
Penn, however, would not say why he was fired.
“I can’t speak to specifics and I prefer not to,’’ Penn said. “I don’t think it is appropriate.’’
Penn was gracious and thankful Tuesday night.
“I’ve moved on. It’s been an unbelievable run,’’ Penn said. “I fell in love with Rip City.’’....
.....Penn was pursued heavily last spring for the general manager position with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but turned down the job after the Blazers promoted him.
He said he has not looked for another job since.
