Top 5 Draft Board (Realistically)

I really think KP will draft a player we can let develop in Europe. I have a gut feeling KP will look at drafting Victor Claver. Before he went down with his knee injury he was a sure fire lotto pick.

An athletic 6'10" PF who can slash and hit the three, he's an interesting prospect. From the various scouting reports I've read he has a skill set, minus the PG-like passing, of Hedo Turkoglu.

Claver continues living off his ability to take advantage of the different opportunities that arise for him during the game, but he struggles to make things happen for himself. Playing as a full-time power forward this time (as he’s been regularly doing in the past weeks), he didn’t waste the looks he enjoyed on the perimeter, netting three of the four open spot-up treys he found. He was active moving without the ball, and his cuts towards the basket provided him easy layups, dunks and free-throws (he almost completed a spectacular reverse dunk by the baseline after being fouled).

Another player to keep an eye on is the 6'10" 260 lb PF from France, Kevin Seraphin.

Physically, it's easy to notice Seraphin's strong, powerful body. Though a raw basketball talent, he has a great natural frame which he has managed to add a great deal of strength to in his couple of years playing basketball. The French prospect shows an explosive vertical leap and the ability to run the court like a guard. Combined with his 7'3" wingspan, he has nearly every tool you look for in a developing big.

Throughout the game, Seraphin displayed an excellent motor, fighting for every loose ball, making an effort to block every shot in his territory, and setting big, bruising screens on the offensive end of the floor. The big man has very impressive instincts when it comes to rebounding, particularly on the offensive end of the floor. His hustle was apparent late in the game, when he provided the World Select team with their first lead of the game on a dunk off a basket cut, and a jaw-dropping block on a John Wall lay-up on the other end of the floor. Coming back down on offense, he helped seal the victory with another dunk in transition, and a key offensive rebound off a missed free throw.

But why would we want to continue getting these types of PFs? Why wouldn't we go for a banger? someone who will play down low, not a Frye type PF.

Exactly. I kind of wish KP would have retained Diogu over Frye this year, but I'm guessing there must have been a work ethic issue or he probably wanted out.

I hope we stay pat @ #24, pick up Sam Young. A 4 year player at Pitt who has all the intangibles to become a James Posey type player, who would be great off of the bench behind Batum. We need role players and Young is just that.

I would also purchase a pick in the teens, use a couple of our 2nds and trade up to around 15 and snag up DeJaun Blair.

Yes, we are adding 2 more rookies, but both have played substantial big game minutes at their careers at Pitt. Both are players who do one-two things great, know their role, and bring value to our team in our weaker aspects.

We still have our cap space to go after a point guard to groom Bayless or we can not pick up Blake's option, trade Surge for the Knicks trade exception, or use our cap space to take on a lopsided trade.

Whether Mullens is first on my board or one of the guards is depends in if we go after one of those two positions in free agency. If we do, like I want to, I say pick the other one in the draft. Calathes isn't quite the type of player I want unless he can defend SGs, but I couldn't find any more players like that, I would rather put Rubio at the top spot and move the others down if that is allowed in this thread.

Mullens has no feel for the game whatsoever. His feel for the game is comparable to Ha Seung-Jin's. It's non-existent.

I'm not looking for a player looking for big minutes this season. If we have a ton in injuries, Mullens would be an emergency big man. My main hope is that he will develop enough to be ready to replace Przybilla if he leaves for more money and/or playing time in a year or two. The same idea is behind my thinking about Robert Swift, one of the free agent targets I listed the other day.

I'd rather just cross that bridge when we come to it with Joel, but don't forget we also have a forward/center playing pretty well in the ACB this year, if he's far enough along I'd rather just bring him in and let him develop as a third string guy.

I don't care for Mullens or Swift at all, there are better more veteran options out there now and in the years ahead. If anything I'd lean more towards guys like Kurt Thomas, Antonio McDyess or some other guy noted for his hustle and defense, but whose bodies probably aren't best suited to taking the pounding of an 82 game season -- basically guys who are going to be happy earning a paycheck to be a practice player and an occasional minute getter.

That's pretty much everybody's strategy, so there's not going to be a whole lot of value for a 2009 pick. KP might be able to get a top 10 pick offering an unprotected 2010 first rounder, Sergio, and if necessary, the trade exception for a "bad" contract.

the thing I liek about a Blair this year.. he is a young'n who would be content with only playing around 10-16 min per game and know a role he plays as a rookie. All other one's like Maxiell, Millsap etc would want more of a role now.

Kevin Seraphen, the 6'10" 260 lb. Frenchman, is this years Serge Ibaka.

He'd be a late 1st round pick (relatively unknown) in the way Koponen and Freeland were. Potential we can stash for a few years.

Hmm maybe, I am kind of tired of "stashing" picks in Europe. We seem to never let them see the light of day if we don't bring them over right away. Sabonis being the exception, but took nearly 10 years to get over.

CBSsportsline listed it in his weaknesses that he's had past injuries. He also had a broken toe his freshman year.

I don't think we need a banger. Backup-PF doesn't seem like a huge need. Why pickup a guy that's only going to be playing 5-7 minutes a game? Most of that usually comes from garbage time. If so why not pick up Brandon Bass, a proven player instead of a project like Blair.

I say no on Blair, very undersized, limited athleticism. This is the NBA being 280 pounds isn't an abnormality in this league.
