Maybe - just maybe - the Blazers might use a small portion of the Trade Exception to bring in another player. Given the state of the team finances (ie, needing to pay Nurk next summer), I would be shocked if they used most or all of it either this season or next summer. IMO, it'll never be used at all.

Think of it this way - last summer, one part of the team's strategy seemed to me to be "Let's stockpile resources to be able to make a trade at some point for a center." Re-signing Crabbe could be seen as one of those resources, to be able to use his $$$ to match salaries in a trade for a big man. But in the end, the team didn't need to send that salary to get their center, but they did (and do) still need to send out that salary to make financial room for Nurk. So sending AC to the Nets served as the necessary salary dump to keep the tax bill from being overwhelming. As such, it would make sense that the team would just let the TPE expire and go unused - unless a gift comes their way that just can't be turned down. I don't expect that kind of gift to be offered, so I don't expect the TPE to be used.
I agree for the most part. I think they'll look seriously at using it next summer, or possibly at the trade deadline if they thought it could make them a contender, but they won't use it just to use it.

Good to see you around, Story. I was in Portland last weekend and happened to walk by the Buffalo Wild Wings where we had the draft party with Scarlett and OdomLOL (RIP). Wondered what you'd been up to.

You know what I was just thinking about..... Theo Ratliff.

This is what I was thinking. Either we get a guy on a rookie deal who makes much less than the 12 mil, or we just absorb the cap savings. I don't see that much benefit in getting a washed up, overpaid role player like Shumpert.

Something like Herzonja, Bender, etc for a future pick and the TPE.

Wait how is Shumpert washed up, he just turned 27 and is still an explosive athlete.

He couldn't get off the bench in the playoffs. He averaged 4 pts a game and couldn't even be relied upon for his defense. And his injury history is worrisome. He's done, and the Cavs are replacing him with a decrepit DWade. Doesn't that tell you something?

Remember how well he played the last 6 weeks of the season for us after we acquired him? The next great Blazer big man! Thats the reason I'm a little less hyped about Nurk fever. I understand they are totally different types of players with different skill sets, but I need to see that play carry over. Him getting injured didn't help with my opinion either. Hope him taking off that weight helps with that.

This is Shumpert last year. Highlights are always deceiving but you can't tell me that he's done with that athleticism still present. He's been underutilized imo.

Now this is a great idea. 5 out of 5 prunetangs approve of this trade. And 4 out 5 got hard dicks thinking about it (the 5th prunetang has terrible taste).

And apparently erectile dysfunction. Dame has been praising Avery Bradley as the best perimeter defender in the league for the last couple years. He would be the perfect third guard to compliment Dame and C.J.

He would give us a lock down perimeter defender that can also knock down the 3 (.390 3FG% last season). He also fits our timeline better than other 3 and D guys like Courtney Lee and Jared Dudley.

And while I don't think Dame will ever demand a trade, I think it's important that he is happy here and feels like he has the support of the organization. I don't think he blames the organization for not getting PG13 or Melo, but it still has to be disappointing to see both go to a division rival. I think getting a player like Bradley, that Dame likes and respects, would help Dame (and everyone else) get over the sting of that disappointment.

HIGHLIGHT VIDEOS ARE VEEEEEEEEEEERY DECEIVING. You guys hook me up with an iced tea from Starbucks and good song and give me 15 minutes, I could make Jake Layman look like Larry Bird!

Gotcha. Yeah. He also said all the right things at first, but kinda turned out to be a fake.

15 minutes to cute video from 1 game against the clippers?

The thing that makes Shumpert low risk is if he doesn't work out he's still a moveable asset because he'd just be an expiring contract after this season. I don't really see too much of a downside.

I'll do it if they throw in an asset. (Like Osman or something).

This is a thread about the TPE if I'm not mistaken

No, we didn't play great after getting Theo. He blocked a shit ton of shots, and that was fun to watch, but the team went 17-15 with Theo with a scoring differential of +0.7. With Nurk, we went 14-6 with a +9 scoring differential.

Theo was a one trick pony. He could block shots, but was a weak rebounder, nonexistent passer (his 3.1 AST% made Dale Davis look like Magic Johnson) and couldn't score to save his life. Nurk is a MUCH more complete player.

But, perhaps the biggest difference is age. Theo was already over 30 when we acquired him. Nurk was 22.

Yep. Theo blocked everything in sight for the last few weeks of the season. The fans went crazy. Paul Allen went crazy. Uncle Paul gave Theo a crazy contract, and that's the last we saw of that version of Theo Ratliff. IIRC, he injured his shoulder, but still. Never saw the same guy after that.

I thought that was Dale Davis?
Yes that was definitely Dale Davis.

Well, maybe I should never use the word 'definitely' around you jackals, LOL, but I'm pretty sure it was Davis.

I was a Theo fan, but thought that contract was a stupid move at the time. It was another John Nash bidding against himself boneheaded move (see Darius Miles). Theo still had another year left on his contract, but rather than making the 31-year old Theo prove he was worth it, Nash handed him that ridiculous extension a year early.

Ironically, Theo was taken with the #18 draft pick previously owned by Portland by Detroit (when we traded our own pick plus an acquired pick, which was from the Drexler trade, IIRC). Blazers drafted Respert, traded him for Gary Trent. Then traded Otis Thorpe to the Pistons to get back one of the picks (Randolph Childress). We had received the #8 and hoped to deal that with Strickland for the #4 pick and Calbert Cheney or Rex Chapman to draft Sheed or more possibly, KG. We failed. Then made the same essential trade a year later.

That and the following summer were wild summers for Blazers fans. Man, sometimes I miss Trader Bob.

And the circle remains unbroken...

Draft Express currently has us taking Gary Trent Jr. in their 2018 mock draft.

Don't worry, guys. Just need to find another disgruntled, incredibly talent player that is on his first contract..... a new Nurk if you will? Olshey, I am waiting....
