Hearing that Portland is involved in a couple of discussions for their Crabbe TPE. It is so much more usable now than after July 1st but it will also add a lot to their tax bill.
Any names? Anyone outside of already rumored guys like Gortat, Faried, Delladova

Courtney Lee (doesn't fit with NYK's youth movement) and Eric Gordon (to help make room to go after LeBron) are two other possibilities.

Those are the names....but I've heard from legit sauces that the discussion are more than cursory.

Do you know if any of those names will also come with a draft pick, or swap of picks, attached? It seems like we should receive some incentive to take a big, unwanted contract off someone else's payroll.

I'd think they would have to.

The playoffs were such a small sample size (4 & 5 games respectively) that using stats to show one player is better than another is pointless. Dame's playoffs stats are terrible.....

However, looking at the entire year (82 games) provides better clarity. Porter does a lot more to help a team win than CJ does.

Really, it's not even close

and yet, CJ's team won more games, hmmm?

Simple addition of the past two years? Did you not read close enough..?

My response to this is exactly what Tester's is above.

Porter is the better player. Porter is not 3 times better.

You're seriously going to just up and continue an argument from almost a month ago? Jesus christ
They both just can't help themselves. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Tax bill for what, 2017-18? Thought that passed on the last day of the season.

Tax bill for 2018-19. We're going to be over the tax threshold without using the TPEs, so every dollar we take back via the TPEs costs Paul another $2.5 in tax. I get that it's Paul's money and he can afford it and this is where I usually point out the non-financial consequences of being a repeat offender, but we're going to be over the tax threshold anyway (assuming we don't let Nurk walk for nothing). So, in this case, using the TPE really is just a case of SPAM.

It's more valuable before July 1 for a couple reasons. First, more players (like Eric Gordon) who fit under the Crabbe TPE before July 1, won't fit after July 1. Second, and this is the big reason, is it lets teams (like HOU) free up cap space to go free agent hunting starting at midnight on July 1.

It's the only reason they would take on those contracts. It's about the best way that Portland can move up w/o including CJ.

So, is there some kind of bidding war going on to see who will give us the highest pick in exchange for us taking a horrible contract off their hands?

If we do extort a 1st from someone, I expect Neil to try to package that pick with the 24th to over up even further.

Until it actually happens, I also expect to be underwhelmed and disappointed.

Yeah I figured, that’s why was confused about the tax part. I think it should be assumed by now that well be in the tax. And we don’t project to be a repeat offender with all the contracts off the books after the 19/20 season. It’s why I think they’ll go “all in” the next two seasons with this current group. At least they better.

I'm assuming a lot of this will come down to who is on the board when those teams pick, and we won't really know anything until those picks are done?

So now that the draft is over who do you see us taking on with the TPEs, if you still do? I'd say we're done at the guard spots.

I still think Courtney Lee makes sense. He's a vet with playoff experience that can handle the ball a bit. He's got two years left and hopefully Simons is ready by then. Find a cheap SF with the tax-MLE.

Can the TPE be used in a sign and trade... like lets say our good friends in Denver signed a guy named Will Barton for around 13 million so they could trade him to us for a future conditional draft pick. Could that possibly happen?

The same guys I thought we’d target before. Nothing has changed and Neil mentioned that these two rookies aren’t going to impact their pursuit of veterans.

Oubre is another name, especially after they just drafted a wing at 15.

If/when Wilson Chandler opts in we could probably get him with a first attached.

I don't think Brown affects Oubre. Brown is gonna med 3-4 years to develop. And he can play 3 positions anyway.

It can in theory, but the Blazers would have to pull off a miracle for that to happen or let Nurk and Davis walk for nothing.

So the real answer is no.

No, we're hard capped at around $126M if we acquire someone in a sign-and-trade.

What about??????????????

Chandler with the big TPE, Oubre with the small TPE, Denver sends a 2019 1st to Washington instead of us, we send a future 2nd to Denver.

Starters: Dame, CJ, Hark, Collins, Nurk
Bench: Baldwin, Oubre, Chandler, Aminu, Davis
Deep Bench: Simons, Trent, Turner, Swanigan, Leonard

Brown definitely affects Oubre. I had my doubts they would pay Oubre next summer, and that was before Brown came into the picture. Now they have their insurance and can safely ship Oubre on out elsewhere.

It's just as likely they trade Porter Jr. for a big man.
