TPEs (Traded Player Exceptions)

Seriously, what part of using that pick in a trade for a good player aren't you grasping?
I obviously get the value of a pick, you can spare the snark.

But Neil has repeatedly said that he will try to obtain a veteran wing. And considering how hands-on Dame has been this summer, and how many times he has repeatedly said he wants help, getting a useless guard and a pick that will be made a year after Dame's contract expires is not much of a selling point for Dame to get confidence. I get that you can move the pick. Try selling that to Dame. We're in a state now where his mindset needs to be a priority. With all these stars getting disenchanted with their franchises a yr before their contracts are up, teams need to cater to them to keep them -- no matter how irrational it seems. Neil is on the clock now.

I am going to continue with the snark until you comprehend my posts instead of keep going back to the same point which I have said 3 times now that isn't the point of getting the pick.

If we are trying to get a star for Dame, what has more value? A TPE that can only be used for someone making less than $13 million and can't be combined with any other players or an unprotected future pick from a team (Heat) that doesn't seem to have much of a long term future and can be combined with any players or contracts to make a deal work?

Now that the draft is over...

What do you think Philly would give up to completely clear Bayless off of their books? How desperate are they?

Enough to give up the Miami 2021 unprotected 1st?

It helps them out a great deal right now and helps us out in the future (or to use in trades this summer).

It would probably be easier to get Covington in the right deal. Can you trade the TPE and a future pick to take back Covington?

Yes, doubt the 76ers really want more picks though.

Covington would be likely the best wing potentially available to help right now. It seems like he might be available. So, how do you get him using the TPE--what would Philly want that we have that is reasonable?

I get that. The optics won't look good for Dame unless we immediately swing a trade withthat pick. Do you disagree?

Why is he available? He's on a great contract and fits with any style (even though I think he's overrated)

The optics of adding a great draft pick without giving up anyone on the roster to do so? I think Dame is smart enough to know that is a good deal.

If there were trying to get James and need to clear cap space and wing space, he would seem the likely asset.

I guess they could try

Fultz
Simmons (SG)
Covington
James
Embiid

It's just that I really want Covington.

Why not just dump Bayless like I said and bring Fultz or Covington off the bench?

Here's a salary dump Denver is rumored to be discussing: https://www.denverstiffs.com/2018/6...dump-with-los-angeles-lakers-nba-trade-rumors

According to Tim Bontemps of the Washington Post, the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers are discussing a deal that would involve the Nuggets sending out one of their expiring contracts and a future draft pick to the Lakers to create cap space. The Lakers would then likely use that pick to bolster their offer to the San Antonio Spurs for Kawhi Leonard.

How does this help the Lakers? They'd be adding a pick but taking away a good chunk of cap space that would be needed for George or LeBron to join Kawhi.
Stretch the salary?

Stretch the salary?
They showed it on ESPN the other day. To get all 3 (LeBron, Kawhi, and PG) they basically have to trade away every single player, let the free agents walk including Randle, and stretch Deng's contract. Doing so leaves them $400,000 short to one of them for a max contract (which would probably be fine). They can't add anymore salary to the equation if that is the goal.

I wonder what Cleveland would give us to take Jordan Clarkson off their hands.
I watched him in LA and he had some great games. I know he is over paid, but I wonder if he would be worth the TPE if all else fails?

No

I wonder how well a LeBron, Kawhi and PG team would look that had absolutely no bench. And if one or more of them gets injured?

Obviously, an immediate second trade that got us a quality, experienced player would provide instant gratification, but I also think Neil could sell Dame on it by saying, we couldn't get exactly what we wanted with the TPE, which expires in three weeks, but this pick can be used in a future trade, perhaps at the trade deadline, that gets us the help we need.

BNM

There is a report that several free agents would sign there for the minimum if LeBron goes there so they'd probably somehow still field a pretty good bench around them. They'd also have the room exception. It would definitely be interesting.

Why? too much? You don't like his game? Duplication of what we have? not what we need?
I can see all of those points, but I am talking about as a last resort....if we get nothing else for the TPE and it is expiring in a few hours. The guy can score off the bench.....

He has a selfish game that wouldn’t mesh well with CJ in that second unit.

Well I admit I like the prospects of having someone like Balwin out there playing next to CJ. But he would be a nice insurance policy if CJ got hurt. But I guess that would take away from the development of Simons. However if we traded Simons in a package deal in the next two weeks, then I would revisit that option.
