Moving Wallace?: The Charlotte Bobcats were involved in late trade discussions yesterday centered around Gerald Wallace with the Portland Trail Blazers according to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer. The hold up on a deal seems to be Charlotte's demands that a deal include Nicholas Batum, a player the Blazers are unwilling to part with. The Bobcats were supposedly still talking with the hopes that a compromise could be reached before today's 3pm EST trade deadline. The Bobcats position is that they would trade Wallace if it helped improve the team, but liquidating Wallace was not the end goal. The Blazers have been dangling Raef LaFrentz's ending contract as a means to add an All-Star caliber player, something they had hoped to add this summer from the free agent pool, but the much-publicized Darius Miles contract situation makes adding a major piece this summer a bit more difficult. Expect the Blazers to trigger a deal today; they have offers out on Gerald Wallace, Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter. The odds the Blazers are shut out of the market seems slim. Who they nab comes down to who is willing to deal and they were talking to a lot of teams.

Moving Vince?: If the New Jersey Nets are indeed moving Vince Carter it didn't seem that way last night in Dallas. Sources close to the situation told HOOPSWORLD they did not think a deal would materialize today but did admit that talks were ongoing. There were reports from ESPN suggesting that New Jersey was ready to "give away" Vince, however Nets sources disputed that notion, saying the team was more than happy to keep Vince and push for a playoff berth, something no one expected this summer when the team embarked on its current rebuilding plan. Nets' president Rod Thorn wouldn't deny the idea that he was aggressively shopping his assets telling Dave D'Alessandro of the Newark Star-Ledger, that he was evaluating options.

"I've always said you do trades for two reasons," Thorn said of making a deal. "You do them for the present, or you do them for what's best moving forward. Those are the only two reasons, as far as I'm concerned."

Nets sources have told reporters that the latest offer on Carter from Portland would require the inclusion of the 2011 draft pick obtained in the Marcus Williams deal with Golden State. That asset appears to be more than New Jersey would entertain, even to off load Carter's remaining three years and $52 million. The Nets were working the phones yesterday and are expected to continue talks throughout the day. Nets sources said last night that they doubted a deal was coming but they would continue talking up to the deadline.

Great info! For the love of God, if Batum is the deal breaker trade him... If we could trade Raef, Sergio and Nic for only Wallace? IDK if it works salary wise but that would be badass.

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

I love KP wanting a 2011 1st round pick before we would take VC. That is what I want to hear and fuck Thorn. I don't think KP even wants VC but I guess he would take him if we could get a sweetheart deal with him. I would be let down if we didn't make a trade but better then taking on a huge bad contract on a old player that really won't help us past probably next year.

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

What was a deal breaker yesterday... might not be a deal breaker today. ;)

Bake it!

I would hate to lose Batum but I would still probably do this deal if we couldn't get anything better. If we did this trade we would have Wallace as our SF and still keep Outlaw as our backup PF if he was included in the trade.

The Portland Trail Blazers are one of several teams interested in acquiring Vince Carter from the New Jersey Nets, but they reportedly are upping their asking price.

The Blazers had discussed sending Raef LaFrentz, Travis Outlaw and Sergio Rodriguez to the Nets for Carter, Maurice Ager and Chris Douglas-Roberts, but they now want a first-round draft pick as part of a deal, an NBA executive told Yahoo! Sports.

"I know they are desperate to trade Vince and teams know that," the source told the website. "And now teams are looking to rob them."

LaFrentz has an expiring contract and is being paid $12.7 million this season.

Sergio makes no sense for Charlotte. Unless they are trading one of their other PG's

NO! Batum stays.

Last couple of weeks, Nate has figured out Batum one-on-one skills are so good he's capable of guarding penetration-threat PGs. Nate Robinson was going off on us in the 2nd half of the Knicks game until Nate switched Batum to cover him. Batum got KryptoNate under control, and Batum stayed in the line-up until :30 secs left in the game.

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

GWallace's D > Batum's D

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

GWallace's D > Batum's D

Maybe and I'm not sure his D is better but it is close. I would still really think about including Batum for Wallace if we didn't have to give up much else except RLEC.

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

Wallace is way better on D. Batum gets a block every now and then on someone he isn't guarding... but Wallace is a beast.

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

I am no homer, but I don't think I would trade Batum either.

There is a reason all teams want him. Talk about the perfect guy to learn behind.....Wallace would be the ideal mentor for young Nic.

I find myself chuckling thinking about KP trying to "convince" the Bob's to take Travis who scores twice as much and can play 2 possitions. The Bob's saying no because they have seen him "try" to play defense.

:drumroll::drumroll::drumroll:
Who would have thought immediately after preseason that we'd be saying we wouldn't be willing
to trade Batum for Gerald Wallace because Batum is too good :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

The NBA is great theater sometimes.

They want a SF back, they can have Catfish.

Granted, Wallace is a little better defender right now, but Batum is NINETEEN. You flat out do not trade 19 year old players who's defensive skill set is in the same conversation as players like Crash.

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

Forget the pick, and force them to take back Channing Frye.

This trades are a golden opportunity for KP to get the horrible players that Nate insists on playing, out of the rotation, while at the same time avoiding the conflict of "telling him how to coach". That's one of the reasons we had to trade Maglorie and Jarrett Jack.

I think the deal would have already be done if we could have included Outlaw with no Batum. I hope it happens and Char gives in but I don't think they are desperate for a trade like some teams.

I don't think KP wants VC. He is just using them to try and get Char or some other team to give us what we want.

Tell me about it.

I've called Blazers Courtside twice trying to get Mike, Wheelz, Rice, or somebody to fill us in on the story from last summer on how Batum got from where he was at the end of summer league to where he was at the beginning of training camp.

Gotten in and asked the question twice, and both time they read the question and then start running off on some other tangent and forget all about my question about Batum. :banghead:

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

Add the pick if need be. It won't be high, and Portland can probably parlay their second round picks for a first in the same area if they really wanted to.

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

From: Hudson Star Observer

.....the Portland Trail Blazers reportedly renewed its talks with the Bucks about a swap between Jefferson and Raef LaFrentz and it could be part of a larger deal involving the Charlotte Bobcats.

ESPN said talks would probably go all the way to the deadline because of the complexity of such a deal. There have been numerous reports that the Bucks are trying to dump Jefferson’s big salary, so they can re-sign guard Ramon Sessions and forward Charlie Villanueva to bigger contracts without having to pay the NBA’s luxury tax next season.

The problem with Crash is you can only trade for him if you are deep at the SF position. They call GW "Crash" for a reason. His body takes a real beating, and he picks up injuries playing that all out. Crash is going to get hurt. You have to good backups.

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

Sounds good. I wonder if RJ would be going to Char and Wallace to Portland. I'm not sure why Char would want to do this but anything that gets us Wallace would be good. I do hate to try and get a 3 way going this late before the deadline.

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

Jefferson and Felton?

That wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah maybe. Maybe we want a backup PF with RJ or Wallace. I'm sure KP is worried if trading Outlaw we would have to play Frye at backup PF.

Re: HoopsWorld Morning Report - Moving Wallace/VC?

Jesus! I need this all to be over. I can't get anything done!
