Vanderbilt would be a very nice piece here. Not the best player, but a very good fit for what Portland needs and the impact might be more than the sum of his parts.
He is a good player and I do like him. But does he move the needle? Grant and RoCo were considered good defenders before they joined, but did they improve us defensively?
It's a sideways move so long as we persist with 2 x small guards in the backcourt, so I don't see the point until we address that elephant in the room.

Picks. Tank, baby! What would you (reasonably) want from a team like the Cavs for Josh Hart?
This seems like the quietest trade deadline league-wide. Other than kyrie, hachimura, and vonleh. . What other trades happened?
I don't expect the Blazers to make any trade and I'm fine with that.
Here's how the rest of the season goes:
1. No trades.
2. Dame gets injured.
3. Blazers end the season on a 0-10 run
4. Miss play-in (obvs)
5. Chauncey fired.
6. Win lottery
7. Draft Wemby!
I know for a fact teams like Sac’s fanbase would trade with us in a heartbeat to have made the playoffs and “underperform”.Other then you getting more pay, I don't miss underperforming in the playoffs more often than not.
Just remember usually when you hear about trades, they’re already dead. So if you want trades, quiet is usually better. This seems like the quietest trade deadline league-wide. Other than kyrie, hachimura, and vonleh. . What other trades happened?

They have no athletic size that they would part with which is our most pressing need, they also have no first round picks (not that I think a responsible GM would be handing those out for Hart but we could have hoped). So we get a role player and a guy that we can cut if the right person is available on the buyout market along with second rounders to sweeten the Vanderbilt trade. Also if we trade for Vanderbilt only sending out SRPs and Winslow, this trade will give us the wiggle room to sign a vet min for the rest of the season without going into the luxury tax. Not a haul but trying to be realistic. What would you (reasonably) want from a team like the Cavs for Josh Hart?
I'd hate to trade Hart, but if we do - I hope it's to a team that is a legitimate contender. Cavs qualify here...What would you (reasonably) want from a team like the Cavs for Josh Hart?
We heard about Grant for like 4 months, then we landed grant!Just remember usually when you hear about trades, they’re already dead. So if you want trades, quiet is usually better.
I guess I get why the Cavs would do that, but why would Portland? It doesn't make us better either now or in the future (unless we get lucky with a couple of likely low second-rounders) and I bet it would piss Dame off.I'd hate to trade Hart, but if we do - I hope it's to a team that is a legitimate contender. Hart + GBIII <-> Osman + Okoro + 2-2nd round picks (GSW for '23 & '24)
This keeps both Cavs & Portland below the tax line.

This is true, but in general, and you know how much I hate to admit it, The HCP is correct. We heard about Grant for like 4 months, then we landed grant!
Nah, I’ll take making the playoffs over not. That is an apples to oranges comparison. The Kings haven't made the playoffs since Rick Adelman. It would be a big deal for them as a younger, growing team to make the Playoffs for the first time in eons. For the Blazers, they made the Playoffs plenty and in most cases were swept out or gentleman swept out over and over again. It's not working and they need more talent. They don't get it via Free Agency and don't/won't make trades to make that happen.
So that leaves the Draft and the majority of great players are picked higher in the Lottery.
No one likes to lose, but if it gives you the opportunity to do something you haven't come close to doing in decades, you take the chance. Otherwise, there is this very tired, mediocre identity to this team.
I believe our friend ran out of green. This is true, but in general, and you know how much I hate to admit it, The HCP is correct.
